Its a thing about honor in ancient Greece. If Odysseus had killed Polyphemus he would have died in honor in battle, but instead Odysseus humiliated Polyphemus and his family. He humiliated Poseidon. If Odysseus had killed him, then it would have been an honor, but since he blinded him and left him alive, it was a dishonor

I don't understand why Poseidon is so angry at Odysseus for blinding his son *instead of* killing his son. Like, I understand the whole "Ruthlessness is mercy" from the perspective of stopping more of their men or future men being killed, but why does Poseidon prefer his son dead??? Epic fans help me this makes no sense to me, his son lives why is he mad about that
