🔥 epic mickey

Everything I say about Epic Mickey feels like an unpopular opinion it's literally my favorite game of all time despite the fact that to most people it's kind of just an average video game. People complain about the lack of actual voice acting but I like the little mumble sounds the characters make instead of talking. I like the dark colors and nonexistent lighting. I like the sidequests. I like the shitty camera that doesnt work

i finally got my grubby hands on a copy of epic mickey after owning just the second game for years and like,,,, besides just how absolutely thrilling it is to see how the story unfolds, the storytelling in this game is amazing in terms of how it deals with these dark themes but wrapping them up in a game marketed to younger(ish) audiences.

but what they dont tell you about is the absolute terror of 7 million bunny children running at you at once.

its so scary they’re everywhere.

you’re never safe.

epic mickey fandom why aren’t we talking about the concept art for this game i mean

not only is it so artistically beautiful but it’s extremely unsettling!!! i didn’t even show the concept art for scrapped beetleworx design (i’ll probably make a seperate post) but dear god. these paint such a fantastic picture of the raw FEELING of wasteland, like the desolate, slightly off-putting land of the forgotten. the games already are so artistically articulate and the creepy factor is really prominent, but just think what we could have gotten if it was catered towards even older audiences.

I think it's partly Oswald's ego like when he renamed Toontown Ostown, and partly that he couldn't bother coming up with 420 names and did like Marlin in Finding Nemo when he's like this half's Marlin Junior

YES that’s so true. also like upon reflection a LOT of stuff in the walt disney parks are named after mickey/heavily reference mickey, so it’s kind of oswald’s way of replicating what he could have been and what he THINKS being a famous toon is like. i love him so much but i think if he had the choice he would have named wasteland osland or something stupid like that.

something i found the second game of epic mickey was really lacking was the complex relationship between mickey and oswald. like, i know they (sorta) made up at the end of the first game, but almost none of that was acknowledged like....ever in the second game. there was so much complexity and layers of emotion that went into both of them and it was so beautiful to see how these characters developed and like??? i really wish we could see more of that in the second game. they’re brothers with 80+ years of angst built like a brick wall between them. where‘s the sibling rivalry? subtle snarky comments? i mean i get the premise is them teaming up but they can’t just ignore the resentment and range of emotions that were dealt with in the first game. idk just thoughts!!

YOUR TAGS YES YES I COMPLETELY AGREE. it was so weird to me that oswald suddenly trusted the mad doctor since like...having trust issues with mickey was a huge part of the first game? it just didn’t add up

i really think the mickey mouse/the newer wonderful world of mickey mouse shorts are one of the best things disney could have done for mickey. as years went on he became so much like a figurehead for disney and less and less like an actual character. and like, for being THE disney character it’s crazy to think how actually little disney does with him. there is so much potential that was gone to waste, and like these shorts revived a lot of the toon-liness of him. he’s ALLOWED to do these zany things now, and make mistakes, and just general toon shenanigans that just ugh i’m so glad we get to see again
