Headcanon: psitanium comes from an silicon based eldritch abomination from space. That the mineral was it's brain. It kinda makes sense to me. Reality warping mineral from space that causes hilucinations and maddness and freaky powers, that sounds like lovecraft.

Sorry I took so long to get to this; originally I wanted to draw something for it! But then I didn’t feel like drawing at all… XC

That said! I like the way you think ;) I’ve toyed with a similar idea myself, that maybe psitanium was manufactured by an alien species to enhance their own psychic powers– but of course we’ll probably never know for sure. I’m not sure how much Lovecraft anyone at Double Fine read, but a strange material falling from space and having effects on the land and beings around it sounds an awful lot like “The Color Out of Space”…
