I’m not used to getting my feelings hurt, cause normally stuff like that doesn’t get to me since I’m used to it, but for some reason what my dad said the other day rlly made me sad lol. Ever considered stuying mycology as a job in the future or is your interest in mushrooms more of "only a hobby" kinda deal?

I really want to do some type of scientific research, but studying fungi and fungal-related organisms is my dream job lol. I’ve wanted to be a mycologist for a while now, but honestly any sort of biology or even chemistry job would be amazing.

Unfortunately, my parents don’t think I can become a mycologist. They say that I’m smart and have a bright future, but that my interest in fungi is useless. They want me to use my ✨big brain✨ to become a doctor instead. I’ll make more money that way, yeah, but I don’t think I’ll be very happy lol.

I just wanna look at lichen all day is that so much to ask 😭

someone told me that I'll never be a scientific researcher bc nobody's going to pay me to look at mushrooms all day since nobody cares about that, and i should get a job as a white noise machine instead bc i never shut up. he said he just tunes me out anyways when i start talking about some annoying fungi stuff, but i make for decent background noise so i'm not useless after all.
