Fun facts for turtlekins/therians! :D

Sea turtles have been around for over 100 million years, even swimming alongside dinosaurs!

The temperature of the sand in a nest determines the sex of a sea turtle hatchling. Warmer sand means more females, while cooler sand produces more males.

Sea turtles can travel thousands of miles across the ocean to return to the same beach where they hatched to lay their own eggs.

Some species, like the leatherback, can dive incredibly deep, reaching over 3,000 feet! They can also hold their breath for several hours.

Their shells are actually made up of over 50 bones fused together, so they're literally wearing their skeletons on the outside!

They cry to get rid of excess salt they absorb from seawater.

Green sea turtles are named for their main food source - sea grass! They use their powerful beaks to graze on these underwater meadows.

Instead of teeth, turtles have sharp beaks that they use to tear or crush their food depending on the diet.
