On Another Note, Theres Also Those Of Us Who Silently Enter, Lurk For A Good Long While, Quietly Picking

On another note, there’s also those of us who silently enter, lurk for a good long while, quietly picking up on the nuances and intricacies of the populace’s interactions, meticulously mapping out the dynamics, before popping up and commenting on some little thing that by all accounts they have no business knowing, and then disappearing again for a couple weeks. The local cryptid if you will.

its so fucking embarrassing joining a discord server like hii im a random asshole and heres my stupid attempt at assimilating into possibly years of injokes and personalities that i have to blind read and hope i mesh well with but for now ill just fucking talk to myself publicly in front of everyone i guess because nobody cares about what i have to say

Just would like to add, that he said “we’d have no memory of you” allow me to say that again “we’d have no memory of you” not “they’d have no memory” “we” himself included. Which, I kinda always got the impression from the beginning that like, their dynamic was really just… professional. Especially given the whole college thing that started the whole fiasco, lol, anyway, by the end of it, Stephen grows to actually care about Peter. While it’s by far not going to be on the bounds of Ned or MJ or May(still mad about this) or Tony, in his own way that I can’t ever really pin down(I don’t subscribe to a lot of the father-son dynamic there, I can see it, yeah, but it just doesn’t seem quite right, yet, if he had made it beyond endgame, maybe then? Idk. Definitely a role model of some kind though but that’s off topic) but still a friend, y’know. Wow that’s a ramble, sorry bout that haha.

Yeah, it would work. But you got to understand, that would mean everyone... who knows and loves you... We'd... We'd have no memory of you. It'll be as if you never existed.I know. Do it.

Okay but why is it so hard to actually write the relevant information? Like… I can write all effing day about the lore or the characters or whatever else, but will any of that he actually relevant to the story I’m trying to make? Will people need that information to understand the plot? Hahahaha absolutely NOT! Why is it easier to Infodump all the metadata of the realm you’ve built instead of the plot relevant information?

It's A Lot Of Stuff...

it's a lot of stuff...

The sleepers

Pt. 1

My ears were ringing, and there was a bright light in my face, I couldn’t see very well, but I could tell there were people moving around.

“He’s waking up, can someone get Doctor Adams?” An excited female voice said. I groggily looked around, but could only see the vague outline of… wait.. that can’t be right. I looked the other way, the only thing there was the wall.

“Hello? Can you hear me?” The same voice asked. I turned my head again to its source, and found her directing a brighter light into my eyes.

“So far everything seems to be fine. OH, Doctor, you made it!, I’ll see to the other three.” The female speaker left. Other three… she must be talking about.. but only three? Did only four of us make it?

“Your probably wondering what’s going on kid.” Said an older sounding voice, it’s speaker sounded rather bored.

“Y-yes” I replied, my voice somewhat ragged. “I- I can’t see very well though, so that’s probably not helping.” I quipped. This “Doctor Adams” fellow didn’t seem to find it funny.

“A common side effect of long-term cryogenic stasis.” He replied after a while. “However, in your case, these might be more helpful.” He held up a small case. “Your lucky we noticed them in your pod.” He said, handing it to me.

“My glasses.. thank you doctor…” I trailed off, waiting for a formal introduction.

“Dr. Grant Adams.” He held out a hand as I put my glasses on, bring the room into much more clarity, the rest of the haziness slowly fading away as I woke up. “You are?”

“Michael North.” I responded taking his hand and shaking it. “The one woman, who was just here, she said that there were three others?”

Dr. Adams sighed deeply, looked to the ground for a minute, then looked up.

“Kid, there’s something you should know. The sleeper ship your pod cluster was part of, was little more than a mangled wreck. Your cluster was the only one still operating, and even then only just.” His words sank in, and I could feel my face paling.

“N-no one else…”

“No one could have survived whatever came through.” He took a moment, then continued. “There’s something else… and this one will probably shock you more, so if you want I can save it till your companions are up.”

I shook my head, I’d brief them on my own. There was a moment of silence, then

“Earth has been destroyed.” The words rattled me, our home world? How long did the sleeper ship have us under? How recently was earth destroyed? Questions buzzed through my head, is humankind on the brink of extinction? Did we manage to move somewhere else?

“Dr. Adams, one of the others isn’t waking up, but his vitals are stable, for now” the female voice interrupted my train of thought, I turned y head to the door and nearly jumped back into the wall, too shocked to scream at what appeared to be a spider-ant hybrid.

“Thank you, Ettyn.” Dr. Adams replied, I’ll see what I can do, for now…” he paused, looked at me then continued “actually, I’ll take Michael with me, he seems to be doing well enough.”

Ettyn nodded, and left the room, presumably to continue whatever she was doing prior to informing us one of my colleagues wasn’t waking up.

“We did find a new home world, by the way.” Dr. Adams said.

“Oh.. that’s good.” He laughed a bit ruefully

“Terra Nova is far from what earth was, but that’s not to say it isn’t close enough.” He looked to me, before saying “it was a few hundred cycles ago. Your ship was sent out another couple centuries prior to that.”

Centuries… we’ve been sleeping for centuries.

“Are we on a ship or in a hospital on Terra Nova?” I asked

“Ship. We’re a few dozen star gates from Terra Nova.” Dr. Adams said, opening the door to what appeared to be an office. “Wait here while I get the others.”

I nodded, the other three people were my last link to home. Our last link to home. As the first one woken up, I figured it was now my responsibility to get my crew, as they now seemed to me, acclimated to our new world, and then carve ourselves a place in this galaxy. The first thing we’re going to need though, is a ship.

The sleepers

Pt. 2

There was a knock at the door, and I heard a few people come in shortly after. Turing from the window, I saw Dr. Adams coming in with Noah and Gavin, which means Daniel was the one who was still under… if Ettyn was the one tending to him, he’d have quite the shock, as I recall his Arachnophobia was far worse than mine.

“Dr. Adams.” I said, nodding. Noah and Gavin looked somewhat dazed, and more than a little confused.

“I’ll leave you three here to adjust a bit to things, if you need me I’ll be down the hall, room B-67, tending to and monitoring your other companion.” Dr. Adams said, stepping back outside.

Clearing his throat, Noah was the first to say something, not surprising to me as he was always more talkative and outwardly inquisitive than the rest of us.

“What exactly is happening, Mike? When I woke up someone told me to wait for that Dr. Adams fellow, he showed up with Gavin and just told me to follow him.” Based on Gavin’s expression, it seemed he knew about as much as Noah did.

I took a deep breath, this wasn’t going to be easy.

“It’s been almost a millennia since the seed ship was launched.” I started, they both nodded, this didn’t come as a surprise, the ship was designed to be able to hold us almost indefinitely, we had expected to come up in a vastly different time.

“In that time..” I paused, breaking the news that you’d just lost your homeworld was harder than I’d thought. “In that time, earth was destroyed. Humanity happened to move someplace else, the new world is called Terra Nova, but our homeworld is gone.”

This news was shocking, we all knew that earth would fall eventually, but it was presumed to be several billion years from now.

“And, there’s one other thing.” This news I hoped wouldn’t hit as hard. “We are the only survivors of protect Genesis.”

At this, Gavin spoke up.

“What do you mean ‘only survivors’? Was the ship destroyed? Did the systems fail? The seed ship was designed to be able to repair itself if needed.”

“The ship was destroyed, Gavin, miraculously, our cluster was still operating when we were found, though I was told that it was on the verge of failure.” I responded, somewhat flatly.

“Michael North to room B-67, Michael North to room B-67” buzzed the intercom, startling all three of us. Daniel must’ve woken up, or something had gone horribly wrong.

“I’ll be back soon. Probably with Daniel.” I said, making my way out the door. As I walked down the hallway, scanning the numbers on the doors as I went, I nearly ran into Ettyn.

“OH! Michael, I’m so sorry, I was just coming to get you.” She said, her mandibles clicking slightly, I’m not sure if it was normal, but I don’t recall hearing it the last few times I’d heard her speaking.

“Is it bad?” I asked, somewhat worried, they already called me over the intercom. Ettyn was quiet for a moment.

“Difficult to say, as you humans say, ‘it is in the eyes of the beholder’” that sounded sounded real good. As we made it to room B-67, I could see Dr. Adams coming out, he looked up and saw Ettyn and I coming down the hall.

“I think it would be best if I left you alone in there.” He said, giving me a small smile, and walking back to what I assume was his office. Again, real comforting.

I stepped inside, Ettyn staying by the door.

“Hey Mike.” Said a voice I thought I’d never hear again.

“Evan?”

“Yeah, Professor Johnson thought it would be better if you and I were in the same cluster.” My younger brother said, somewhat nonchalantly, but I wasn’t sure if that was because he had just woken up or not. In all honesty, I was relieved that he was safe. Noah and Gavin would need an explanation, but that could wait until Evan was given the all clear to get out of bed.
