Damian, in the backseat: "Timothy, why does my grandfather call you babygirl?"

Tim, driving towards a fire: "How about we play the silent game for a while?"

Rick Sanchez & The Stages of Grooming (6/6)

Stage 6: Maintaining Control

Once sexual abuse is occurring, perpetrators commonly use secrecy, blame, and threats to maintain the child’s participation and continued silence. In order to maintain control, perpetrators use emotional manipulation; they make the child believe they are the only person who can meet their emotional and material needs. The child may feel that the loss of the relationship, or the consequences of exposing it, will be more damaging and humiliating than continuing the unhealthy relationship.

“If you tell anyone, we both could go to jail, We won’t be able to be together.” Or “If you tell anyone, something bad could happen to your family.” (x)

Text: Orestes: This was always going to happen. She's been dead since the beginning.
Four comic panels showing Terra, a blonde girl, as she causes rocks to fall from the cave ceiling, collapsing around her. By the fourth panel she disappears completely, crushed under the rocks.
Text: The character was created with an intended finite life span. Co-creator Perez stated that he and Marv Wolfman knew, “from the very start, that this girl was going to be a traitor and that we were going to kill this character off.”
Panel one text: Her name is Tara Markov and she is little more than sixteen years old. And due to the fault of no one but herself, she is insane.
Panel two text: Don’t look for reasons which do not exist — plainly, Tara Markov is what she is. And she has taken a great power and made it as corrupt as she.
Panel one: an image of speech bubbles between two characters. First speech bubble: why? Second speech bubble: There need not be logical answers…the girl is evil.
Panel two: An image of Tara sitting in a bean bag, dressed in a small silk robe. She is smoking, wearing gold jewelry and makeup, and talking to an older man.
Text: Since we knew we were planning to kill her and have her meet her deserved end, we didn’t worry about what kind of moral lesson it was. She was going to be punished (underlined). Anyone who thought after seeing how truly bad she was that we would find a way of redeeming her was being a little naive. We wanted her to be as much a viper in the garden as we could.
Text: An innocent child, yes, that you were, truly, but still more truly you have been a devilish human being! And therefore take note: I sentence you now to death by drowning.
Two comic panels. In panel one, Tara reaches out with one arm in front of her as she tries to escape the flames and magma around her. The second panel is an image of the smoke and dust clouds near her as rocks collide. The billows of smoke look almost like human skulls.
Text: One of the great times I remember in plotting this rather manipulative story is Marv and I sitting in a diner in New York and discussing — obviously without context for anyone who was overhearing us — the death of a 15-year-old girl. Here we are talking about “how are we going to kill off this 15-year-old girl? We’ve gotta make sure everyone sees the body,” and this type of thing, without realizing there might be some heads turning. But only in New York would nobody report us. [laughter] Again, Marv came up with the —
Text:
The Woman Dies.
She dies to provide a plot twist. She dies to develop the narrative. She dies for cathartic effect. She dies because no one could think of what else to do with her. dies because there weren’t any better story ideas around. Dies because her death was the very best idea that anyone could come up with.
‘I’ve got it! Let’s kill her off!’
‘Yes! Her death will solve everything!’
‘Okay! Let’s hit the pub!’
And so, the woman dies. The woman dies so the man can suffer. She dies to give him a destiny.
A comic panel of Garfield Logan up close, with his eyes screwed shut and tears coming out. Out of sight, Deathstroke says to him "And the only one hurt was Tara. I swear to God, Logan — She’s not worth crying about."
Text: She was and is an ‘unfree’ character with the capacity to free others by taking on the burden of their fates, sins, and deaths - a classic scapegoat.
Two panels showing Starfire, Changeling, and Cyborg dodging flying rocks and burning debris because of Tara’s spiral in madness. Text from the narrator: Her pursed lips part and the sounds which echo forth are garbled and inhuman. Hot, boiling blood gushes from the earth’s open wounds. Its skin fractures and cracks…and if a world could cry, it surely would.
Text: Regardless of readers’ reactions, her character haunts the Titans continuity because the question ‘why?’ was never truly answered inside the story. She will arguably keep coming back until it is.
mistress-of-vos - Wife of Ra's al Ghul
Two panels without speech placed side by side. In panel one, Brion Markov holds Tara’s body among the rubble. His back is turned to the reader and neither of their faces are visible. Panel two shows Tara’s skeleton in her grave at night, which has been dug up.
A speech bubble says “for she had so much to offer, so much to give. Tara Markov — ashes to ashes…dust to dust…”

Tara Markov as a tragic character

"If Megatron Has One Weakness, It's His Inability To Grant Starscream The Respect He Deserves, Not For

"If Megatron has one weakness, it's his inability to grant Starscream the respect he deserves, not for his considerable abilities or his cold-blooded ruthlessness, but for his dogged refusal to cease making attempts to wrest power from Megatron. Starscream isn't really even smart enough to make a secret of his ambition, and his vanity won't tolerate anything less than total command. Guile and treachery are his undoubted talents, but he lacks the patience for a a truly grandiose power play."
