"Non-binary?" Dean asks, eyebrows screwing together.

Sam's heart is racing. They feel a thrum of anxiety running through them, like electricity just under their skin. Nervousness and excitement. Anticipation. They tense to keep from shaking.

"Yeah. Non-binary. It means I don't see myself as a guy, but I also don't see myself as a girl," Sam tries to explain.

"Okay.." Dean says; an acknowledgement more than an understanding, but soft like he's trying. Then, hesitantly, "So... are you going to change your name?"

Sam smiles, small, mouth twitched to one side. "Sam is still fine, but not Samuel. And, uh, my pronouns are they/them."

Dean nods a little; another acknowledgement. But Sam can tell Dean is rearranging things in his head as his forehead smoothes out; accepting. But then Sam can see a bit of worry seep in.

"Can I still call you Sammy?"

The pressure releases and Sam is filled with warmth and the reassuring ache of love for their brother, smile spreading to a grin that dimples both cheeks.

"Only you, De."

remember, the first Pride was a riot, and she was one of the brave souls who endured it to help carve the path which so many of us walk today. she helped found several activist groups regarding LGBT safety and wellbeing. and she was absolutely radiant, too.

After finishing the previous pencil sketches and watching some tutorials, I tried to make this drawing smoother to get a more realistic effect. To achieve the darker parts I used woodless graphite pencils.
