I just found a big plot hole in Avatar:The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. I’m not sure if this has been addressed or the writers did this on purpose and it really does not bother me but anyways let’s get into it. So we all know that people from the northern and southern water tribes have a darker skin tone than any other nation. Using Korra as an example, she is much darker than Asami who lives in republic city, as we know, is earth territory. The earth nation is smack dab in the middle of the earth. Another example is Katara and Zuko and in the show it is clear that Katara has a much darker complexion than her fire nation companion. The fire nation is in the center, towards the west if one looks at a map with the earth nation in the complete center. Geographically speaking, the north and south tribes are furthest away from the equator while nations like the fire, earth, and air are more towards the equator(aka the center). Theoretically, the people living in the nations closed to the equator should be darker in skin tone than those living further away(like the water tribes). So my question is why are the ones who are supposed to be the darkest, the lightest and why are the ones supposed to be the lightest, the darkest. Maybe the writers said something about it but idk, have at it. Here’s a picture of the maps shown in the show btw.
Edit: I just remembered Kyoshi has a darker complexion that Rangi, is it maybe the exact place in the Earth kingdom? Still doesn’t explain the fire nation tho...
