Advanced Acting tips by veteran mentor, Dana Boadway-Masson, to help take animators to the next level.

Contextual Research

So many times I see animators trying to wedge too much information into a shot, and it ends up feeling as clear as mud, and the realism of the performance suffers. Avoid the impulse to always be making the character move! The thing that really makes the shot flow well are the moments of stillness in juxtaposition to the movement.

You don’t want the shot to feel ‘forced’ or ‘fake’, which it will be if there are too many pose changes and performance elements.

As working in this brief I did this research in relation of using acting performance tips for animations to gain more understanding that can be applied in future work.

Title Editing

Those are some of the screenshots stages & pictures that I did while I was designing the film title. First started by writing the film title & after that started to work in layers with different sizes and effects to create my animated title as a video that we can use in the final trailer.

The Shining Trailer "Sweding"
This is a project I have been working in with other students at college. It was about recreating a movie trailer from A to Z. Such as filming, editing, special effects,…

This is the final trailer that I have been working in with my group at college. I learned a lot in this project in editing, filming, timing.. etc. Such a great time..

The final title of THE SHINING

This is the finale film title that I did in Photoshop. We as a group will use it in the editing process.

I had to watch the movie trailer many times slowly to try to get close as much as I can to the original animated one. I had to write the letters separately to put them in different levels as the original one. Some other effects will be added too in Adobe Premiere later.

This Is The Original Font That Was Used In The Film Poster & Trailer. I Downloaded It To Try It.

This is the original font that was used in the film poster & trailer. I downloaded it to try it.

I found out that the i letter is only in small version and not available as bold and also it looks little different than the movie trailer so I decided that I will use the first one that we as a group agreed about.

Contextual Research

As I’m working in recreating the title of the movie as it appears in the movie trailer, we as a group tried to find the closest font to the real one which is “DIN Alternate” so we decided that I will use it when I’m creating the animate film tilitle. But I wanted to find the original one that was used so I did this research and found out that the original one that was used is called “ Shining NFI Demo Font ”.
