If the only way you know how to write conflict into your romance story is to have the romantic leads be unfaithful and just overall shitty to each other, then you are not a very creative writer. Stories about healthy relationships devoid of cheating does not automatically make them boring stories. And vise versa! Just because your characters are running around treating each other badly does not automatically make your story complex. At the end of the day it all comes down to the writing of the story itself. I'd take a well written story about a couple who actually put in the work to fix their relationship rather than betray one another over a shallow story about selfish cheaters. By all means like what you like, but please stop trying to gaslight the rest of us into thinking that romance stories HAVE to be shitty in order to be "complex".
