Rook’s Notes: I've felt pretty down lately, and this happened.

Grim looked around the spacious bedroom. He jumped onto the queen size bed and claimed his usual spot on the right side. Softly he pawed the empty pillow by him. A downhearted purr echoed through the room as his small paw patted the dusty cushion. The burning sensation itching his cyan eyes only worsen.

"I am just a kitten. Hardly fit my mittens." Grim hoarsely purred while curling up on the pillow. Laying his head on the cushion rather than his paw, "Much too small, I figure. One day I'll be bigger…"

The nonsense residents of Heartslabyul didn't have their unbirthdays as cheerful. Their desserts weren't as sweet anymore as Trey had slowly lost his sense to bake. He would often make a few treats to distract himself, but those baked goods didn't hold the same flavor as they once did. Cater continued his social appearance, but the ginger would find himself in the rose garden when left alone. He would pick roses and paint them (color), not paying mind if he got in trouble as (color) seemed so beautiful than the dreadful red or empty white. Riddle would be held up in his room most of the time. Reading to himself before speaking out loud, he stopped himself multiple times when not receiving an answer from his commentary. "One day I'll be a great big kitty cat. Uses open windows to go from flat to flat."

Savanaclaw reverted to their old ways. No more socializing with weaklings or non-beastmen. Leona rather spent time in his dorm than in the garden, claiming the grass was too itchy. The plants were damaging his senses as his eyes would water. Jack's workout routine kept him active as he continued to train. However, he would stop every once in a while to catch his breath before snapping out of his daze with a light scowl. The mischievous Ruggie didn't pull pranks as the childish acts didn't cheer his sour mood without someone to help. Even the taste of donuts was bitter when he ate alone in the cafeteria.

Azul looked at the quiet lounge and signed at the empty seat by him. The paperwork is seemingly endless without an extra hand, especially when the help would distract him when he got frustrated. Tucked away in the forest, Jade quietly hiked through nature as his eyes scanned the ground. he tilted his head slightly to look behind him but shifted his eyes back to the ground in search of mushroom, not enjoying the lone hike as he used to. Floyd stared at the ceiling of his room while the a deep frown on his face. Bringing the shrimp plush towards him, the usually mischievous boy feels more tired than normal.

As lively as the halls of Scarabia, Kalim felt void of light. He could seem to hold his smile for longer than a minute, his dormmates noticing the lack of energy when he walked the halls. Jamil lost his sense of excessing and revolted back to his tucked-away nature of being average. His dancing becomes more intense as he ignores their memories and cheers.

"I am just a kitten. Hardly fit my mittens. Much too small, I figure. One day I'll be bigger. One day I'll be all grown up and strong."

The three beauties of Pomefiore grew bored without their admiring fan. Vil didn't have the usual urge to shop and dare he say- he lost the appeal to maintain his beauty routine when he passed a mirror. Rook grew bored as the students all looked dull to him, none appealing to his standards anymore. Epel slowly lost his nerve to bother working out and bite his tongue on makeup, covering up the bags under his eyes from sleepless nights.

Keyboard keys echoed the poorly lit room while the screen flashed with bright colors. Idia emptily stared at the computer while he built his character, focusing his entire mind on making the little icon identical. Ortho sat in the corner of the room as he built a hologram. Using every part of his memory software to mimic their voice so the brothers could have comfort during their hard days.

Diasomia shut itself away once more after the dreadful day. Lilia turned from being teasing and playful to forever strict. He stop being friendly when his closest friend left him alone. The usual loud mouth Sebek turned rather quiet as days went by, being rather more reserved. The quiet Silver revolted back to his old self of being distant and focused on his Knight training, however, the dull ache in his chest would hurt when he looked towards the clock. Reminding himself that he would need to take a break after hearing the small voice that haunts him. Malleus sighed during his nightly walk. He lost interest in interacting with the student body, the need to silence the thoughts growing with each passing day after losing his companion.

"But until then, I'll just purr and sing along."

Deuce and Ace both looked at one another as they heard the feline's broken purrs. The redhead pressed his back against the doorframe while humming to the purrs. He closed his eyes while faintly hearing the words to the small lullaby in his head. The ravenette listened to his friend hum as he sat down on the floor. Every night. They would hear you sing that lullaby without fail, as silly as it was that was the only way for Grim to fall asleep. The pair knew this and it hurt. Your absence had created a great void in their hearts. In everyone's hearts.

Ramshackle hasn't felt like home. Its clean halls had collect dust over time as the common room had a cloth over the furniture for no one dared clean. The once rowdy dorm had turned muted that even the ghosts found it too eerie. All the other dorms felt the effect of the absence as time went by.

Your absence bought great grief to everyone, but Grim had to worse impact. He had all his memories with you from the best funniest ones to the scary frightening ones. The warmth that once radiated from your desk chair grew cold after a week and caused him to move to the bed. He would avoid your side as much as possible, remember how you would hold him close at night. However, he misses your arms around him. He misses listening to your heartbeat after a hard day of class.

He remembers seeing you study on your desk every day while he slacked off. The first time you sang that stupid lullaby. You were humming while writing down notes, while he ate away at his tuna. The feline ears twitched when he heard your light meowing. Tilting his head he popped up beside you, catching your attention.

"Huh? What's wrong?"

He said nothing but stare at you. A blud went off in your eyes before you picked him up and set him down on your lap, running a hand through his fur as you went back to humming. The silly song was his comfort every day and night because you would always smile while humming it.

It was your humming that bought him back when he overblobbed. It was the lullaby that woke him up when you called out to him. It was your smile that forever haunts him when remembers his jaw opening.

Grim let out a weak cry as he buried himself into your old pillow. Wishing wholeheartedly that you come back to him. Promising to the night sky that he would be better if it meant seeing you next to him. He would swear on his favorite cans of tuna that he was the good feline you proudly proclaimed.

"My little kitten.." He just wants to hear you call him one more time..

Silver is often at Malleus’ side as his bodyguard, but just as often loses track of him. Unlike Sebek, Silver believes that it is important to give Malleus time to be on his own without a chaperone, which is a point that the two disagree on and about which they often argue.

He is not talkative. He is comfortable with listening while others share their opinions, rarely ever speaking negatively. He is calm and careful when judging a situation, and can be depended upon to make the most level-headed decisions in an emergency.

He wishes to, one day, become even stronger than his father, Lilia: capable of protecting the people he needs to protect, however and wherever they may need him. For this reason he is strict with himself about his physical training, swordsmanship and whatever other forms of training he decides will help him achieve this goal.

Silver’s magical pen is somewhat different from that of other magic users: it is large and detailed with black horns and thorns. He carries his pen strapped to a belt at his waist, as it is too large to fit into the jacket pocket of his uniform, where other students carry theirs. At a glance, it is easy to mistake it for a sword.

While he tries to avoid doing so in public, he refers to Lilia as “Father” in private, and he rarely smiles when he isn’t with (or talking about) Lilia. Lilia adopted Silver after finding him alone in the forest and named him for his hair color (there is some debate as to whether his birthday is the actual date of his birth, or the day that Lilia found him).

According to the official game guide, Lilia and Malleus raised him together. In his birthday vignette, Silver says that he and Sebek have been undergoing strict training regimes together since they were small, and that they are much like siblings.

He speaks often of Lilia, whom he adores. Silver explains that he originally thought that Lilia was his biological father, until he realized that their ears are different. When he asked about it, Lilia responded, “You hadn’t noticed?” and began to laugh. Confused, Silver immediately ran away, and Lilia had to search in the rain to find him. When they finally returned home, Silver collapsed with a fever. Lilia nursed him back to health, always smiling, and from that day Silver no longer cared about blood ties, happy to be his father’s only son.

Silver is not particularly concerned with his appearance, but he is always certain to be presentable and dressed appropriately. Lilia cuts his hair (when he does not cut it himself). 

Silver is constantly falling asleep during his classes and even his physical training, no matter how much black coffee he drinks. He claims it’s not because he wants to sleep and, while he wishes to overcome the issue, he does not know why it happens.

Animals are very fond of him. When looking for a plant to use in a potion to keep himself awake, Kalim calls out in surprise as squirrels and rabbits hurry to give Silver the plant he seeks. Jamil, nearby, says, “You fall sleep suddenly, and animals adore you…you’re odd”, and Silver agrees, saying, “I think so as well. What even am I?”.

Floyd refers to him as “Kurage-chan”, meaning jellyfish, and Rook calls him “Monsieur O-nebou”, meaning sleepyhead.

Silver can be naive, taking the things he’s told at face-value and interpreting them in a positive light, which can result in communication issues with those around him. In Leona’s ceremonial robes vignette (seen above), Ruggie explains that when Silver and Kalim are together, they create an “irritating fluffy space” (いらふわ空間) where the two of them are so optimistic and air-headed that it annoys everyone nearby. 

Silver and Kalim are fairly close friends, and their personalities mesh well (they have a lot in common, such as both having a lot of cosmic-based magic attacks*). 

Silver is grateful to Kalim for teaching him things that everyone else seems to know, that Silver—as someone with an unconventional upbringing away from the influence of the outside world—does not. 

Idia refers to Silver as “a rare type in this school”.

While growing up in the Valley of Thorns, Lilia would take a commemorative photo of him every year on his birthday, alongside Malleus and Sebek (who would visit to celebrate with them). They continued this tradition upon enrolling in Night Raven College, and Silver has the picture on display on the desk in his dorm room. Silver describes the photograph as “a wonderful birthday present. I wouldn’t trade it for anything”. He also has several clocks in his room to help keep him from oversleeping, as well as a bag of bird seed on his desk.

Silver first noticed when Sebek surpassed him in height when standing for a commemorative birthday picture together, but he does not particularly care. 

Sebek, on the other hand, is very proud of being asked to fetch objects from high shelves that Silver cannot reach. 

Silver assumes that this is because Sebek genuinely enjoys getting things down from high places, so even though Silver can fetch things from up high by himself via magic, he is always certain to ask for Sebek’s help, as it seems to make Sebek so happy.

When asked “How is life at the school different from your home?”, Silver expresses surprise at all the electrical appliances, which are rare in the Valley of Thorns, where most homes do not have electrical outlets.

He also explains that he was surprised by how good the food tastes, as—growing up—he had no choice but to eat Lila’s cooking. “Father…Lilia-senpai’s cooking is creative. He will look up a recipe, but not follow it as he cooks.” (lab wear vignette)

Silver is not a picky eater, and he is an accomplished cook, so long as he doesn’t attempt any cuisine (like stews) that require a significant investment of time, as he will fall asleep in the middle of the process. 

He has said he often receives bedding on his birthday, as people tend to assume that the reason he falls asleep throughout the day is because he does not sleep well enough at night. As a result, he has become familiar with many different variations and brands of pillows.

He has a naturally stern-looking expression, but this is unintentional and he is unaware of it. In-game, Vil refers to his eyes as “the color of the aurora”.

Translated notes from the image: “When he does smile—which is rarely—it is a gentle expression. Lilia sees him smile quite often. He usually does not look mean. Surprise. He usually hides when he is shocked so that others cannot tell he has been caught off guard, but he does get surprised. Anger! He gets angry if something puts Malleus and the others in danger. As he cuts his own hair (or Lilia cuts it for him), it is rather scraggly, but half of that is the fault of having bed hair.”

Rumor

While unconfirmed, there is a rumor that he may be based on Prince Philip’s “Sword of Truth”, from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, but he also has characteristics of Aurora herself, such as falling asleep against his will and attracting small woodland creatures. It is possible that Silver is in fact the only “Disney princess” enrolled at Night Raven College (as opposed to Royal Sword Academy, where the rest of them congregate). 

This raises the question, however, of why he was chosen by the mirror for the world of villains.

Which brings us to another point

 *The other two characters with a plethora of cosmic attacks are related to characters who were not true villains in their respective movies. Kalim, presumably based on the sultan, was hypnotized in the Aladdin movie by the villain to perform evil deeds, but was not, himself, maliciously villainous. Similarly, the hunter in Snow White—the basis for Rook—was employed by the movie’s villain and commanded to perform evil deeds, but ultimately refused and redeemed himself.

This illustrates that having a dotted-line association with the movie’s villain seems to be good enough for the mirror.

But that doesn’t help explain Silver, as neither the Sword of Truth nor Aurora can be associated—indirectly or otherwise—with aiding in a villain’s scheme. A certain live-action Disney movie insinuates that it is indeed Aurora who can be proven to have a deeper relationship to her movie’s villain than one would think, but does that timeline apply here?

And for further puzzling: In January of 2020, part of the early promotion for the game involve the official twst_jp account on Twitter posting short videos introducing the characters of each dorm. You had to retweet the video in order to play it, and it listed a still image of each character in the chosen dorm, one by one, and played a line of dialogue by that character.

I found the original promotional tweet, played the video and Silver’s line of dialogue is “That’s strange…I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before”.

We already know that the player character sees Disney movies in their sleep. If this is a “I’ve walked with you once upon a dream” reference, it seems pretty safe to say that Silver might be 1/4th sword, but he’s easily 3/4ths Aurora.

I like to think Grim can do the thing Stitch does with the records. You know, where he uses the claw for a needle and open his mouth for a speaker. No reason. He just can. It's a neat trick to pull out for guests at the dorm.
