September LU Community Write-a-Thon Round Up: 405,699 Words in One Day!

Welcome back to another roundup! In this fourth monthly Write-a-thon, held September 1st from 12 am to 12 am, we had 73 writers join us in our game to write as many productive words as humanly possible. And these amazing writers put their heads down, picked their pencils up (or keyboards, as appropriate), and slammed out over 400,000 words! This is an amazing accomplishment, thank you all so much for coming — this month was a blast!

Directly below are the general statistics for this month (so much credit to the lovely @zarvasace) followed by the Winner’s Circle, Clubs and the Superlatives sorted in alphabetical order. This month, the statistics and clubs were self-reported through submission sheets — superlatives, as every month, were assigned by other members of the event. Thanks again to @zarvasace for putting together all of our lovely spreadsheets, to the mods for helping us run this event, and to all of you for coming!

Winner’s Circle (Top 5 Most Wordiest)

At 25,354 words, “Writer of all Time” goes to @haloburns! This new moderator has managed to blow everyone out of the water with an absolutely STAGGERING count! Amazing job, can’t wait to work with them next month!

At 21,318 words, “The Documentation” goes to @irenkaferalkitty, for managing to break 20,000 words and amazing everyone with the detailed spreadsheets and documents!

At 20,602 words, “Long Hauler” goes to @hytiaa in honor of their third-place victory and the sheer amount of words they managed over only 24 hours! 

At 20,588 words, “So Incredibly Fast” goes to @glowingmin! Are you sure you had a pen in your hand instead of a bolt of lightning?!

At 18,650 words, “The Studious” goes to @nebulapaws. You’ve channeled all your energy into writing this month, and you’ve got a veritable novel of words to show for it!

Clubs

This month was our second month of clubs! In these, participants were allowed to come together and find common ground around a chosen topic or theme. These clubs were completely public, so anyone could join the fun and combine their word counts for some friendly competition. Thank you all for playing, check out your stats below!

Easy, peasy, and cheesy!

“Skip’s Suitor A” goes to @hotcheetohatredwastaken, who also earned “Doing Gouda.” Seems the cheese cult managed to drag the cheese into it! Currently fighting Freyja for Skip’s hand.

“Star of the Show” goes to @lunaopus for getting over 1000 stars, more than double the second place most starred person, and breaking our out-of-context channel!

“Skip’s Suitor 1” and “Stressed Out Parent” go to @not-freyja, who was mostly just already stressed about NaNoWriMo. Also fighting Cheeto for Skip’s hand.

“Idolatry’s Spokesperson” goes to @tashacee, in honor of her gleeful taunting of the already agonized readers after the last chapter.

“Is this a Robbery, a Ravio Impersonation, or Just Capitalism?” goes to @winterfen for changing their screen name to “Hand your rupees over right now.”

“Bookbinder of the Year” goes to @gia-d for her gorgeous work on making fics into physical books people can hold in their hands. Also “Americanismized” for struggling through writing a fic with an American co-author… and an Australian spell check.

“Slow and Steady (WPM)” goes to @hyrulescarlet for taking breaks to take care of themself! Exercise! Stretch! Good job!

“Deus Ex Machina Herself” goes to @needfantasticstories since this whole operation is actually her fault. Good job Skip. And with how many people you have fighting for your hand, you are also voted this month’s “Prom Queen.”

“Lost in the Sauce” goes to @passerinesoncaffeine who rolled into the event late… because they were reading fic. Well done. You got the spirit.

“Assigned Beer by Starwolfie” goes to @rebornofstars, who is apparently not a bee anymore!

“Aimed for the Funny Number” also goes to @savimatteo2810, who went for exactly 69 words (nice!).

“Silent, Happy in her Lane” and “Focused” go to @sunny-porridge, who was largely silent but consistently joined sprints.

This is the fic that I fully finished during the LU September 2024 write-a-thon! And it was all based on a silly joke made it the server. I usually write heavy angst, so it was fun that the first thing I've written in a while was super wholesome.
