A Comprehensive Compilation Of Why Severus Snape Is An Awful Person That Doesnt Deserve Redemption, Pity,

A comprehensive compilation of why Severus Snape is an awful person that doesn’t deserve redemption, pity, or any kindness ever (not in any particular order):

- He is obsessed with the Marauders when they are younger, and tries to compare their antics to the actions of very real, blood supremacist, dark magic-using bullies that Snape was hanging out with and found amusing. (Edit: I’m adding that I’m not saying James and Sirius were right in their actions, I’m simply pointing that Snape wasn’t either. This post isn’t about the marauders, this is about Snape)

(DH, The Prince’s Tale, p673-674, Arthur A. Levine Books edition)

“‘They sneak out at night. There’s something weird about that Lupin. Where does he keep going?’ ‘He’s ill,’ said Lily. “They said he’s ill—’ “Every month at the full moon?’ said Snape. ‘I know your theory,’ said Lily and she sounded cold. ‘Why are you so obsessed with them anyway? Why do you care what they’re doing at night?’”

- Snape was very clearly trying to out Remus and actively trying to prove his case about knowing Remus was a werewolf. (More on this later)

-Calls Lily a mudblood, and then tries to excuse his actions. Then Lily says “...you call everyone of my birth Mudblood, Severus. Why should I be any different?” Snape says absolutely nothing to defend himself on this statement, so we can only assume that it is accurate and he commonly uses a slur to describe other students around him.

-We know Snape invented Levicorpus, which we later see James use. How do you think James learned it if not because Severus had used it on him or another student before? We even see Snape use Sectumsempra on James. Sectumsempra, aka the spell capable of cutting someone open and leaving them to bleed to death. This is the kind of experimentation Snape did with Dark Magic.

-Snape was willing to sacrifice the life of a BABY without a second thought until he discovered that the child was Lily’s. Even after this, he prioritizes Lily’s life and isn’t concerned whatsoever about the life of Harry, who at this time is less than a year old.

-If Voldemort had decided that Neville was the Chosen One instead of Harry, Severus Snape would still be a death eater. He didn’t think being a Death Eater was wrong in any way- it wasn’t until he was directly affected by a childhood crush did he reconsider. James and Lily Potter fought for the light because they believed in the light. Severus Snape fought against the dark because the dark had offended him. Had Voldemort gone after the Longbottoms instead, Snape would have lived and died as the most loyal Death Eater in history. Edit: I understand that we can say ‘if’ all day long. The point here I’m trying to make is that Severus Snape is only supporting the light side because it benefits him in this situation. I’m simply pointing out that he’s selfish by nature.

-The prophecy states that the child will be born to parents that have thrice defied the Dark Lord. So therefore Lily in some way defied Voldemort 3 other times. And only now Snape wants to save her? No. It has more to do with the guilt he’s feeling for telling Voldemort about the prophecy. It wasn’t her death that phased him as much as how he’d feel if he caused her death.

-Snape hates Harry simply for the fact that Harry looks like his father. Have you ever considered how Harry would’ve been treated if he’d been a girl that looked like Lily? Edit: I AM NOT INSINUATING ANYTHING PEDOPHILIC. I am making the point that when Harry come to school, Snape saw him and recognized his childhood bully, and instead of making the mature decision and not making judgments about Harry beforehand, he just assumes that Harry will be like his father was in school. If Harry had looked like Lily, Snape would’ve been more inclined to favor him the way he did Draco or Pansy. Not in a creepy way, just in a confirmation-bias kind of way.

-Severus snape once intended to publicly kill a student’s pet as punishment for getting a potion wrong. This pet was also a gift to Neville from his Uncle for getting into Hogwarts- something that his family didn’t think would happen because he wasn’t “magic enough”. So to him- Trevor is a reminder that he is a wizard and that his family is proud of him. Then Snape wants to kill him because Neville got a potion wrong, reinforcing the idea that Neville isn’t “magic enough”.

-When Snape covers for Lupin's class (told you we’d be back here), Snape taught the DADA class and made all the students write essays on how to kill werewolves so that Lupin would have to read these when he came back from going through an incredibly painful time.

-Snape did everything in his power to get Remus fired despite the fact that Remus had spent 16+ years pretty much homeless and without a job.

(OotP, Percy and Padfoot, p302, Arthur A Levine Books edition)

“‘I know she’s a nasty piece of work, though—you should hear Remus talk about her.’ ‘Does Lupin know her?’ asked Harry quickly, remembering Umbridge’s comments about dangerous half-breeds during her first lesson. ‘No,’ said Sirius, ‘but she drafted up a bit of anti-werewolf legislation two years ago that makes it almost impossible for him to get a job.’”

Edit: So let’s do some basic math here. This happens in Order of the Phoenix. The anti-werewolf legislation was written two years prior. This would’ve been during or around The Prisoner of Azkaban. Why would somebody randomly write a piece of legislation like this? Let’s just say that there was a teacher that was outed as a werewolf and people were not happy about it. That would give pretty good reason for someone to write a piece of legislation that would make it hard for a werewolf to get a job. Not just Remus. Every werewolf. Who outed Remus to the wizarding world at large? Severus Snape. So for anyone suggesting that what I wrote below is as good as fanfiction, maybe actually read the books and pay attention to smaller plot lines.

-When Snape tells everyone that Remus is a werewolf, he’s not just telling students or their parents. He’s telling the wizarding world. Because of this, Dolores Umbridge wrote a law that made it almost impossible for Remus to find a job. So not only did he ruin Remus’s life. He ruined the life of Every. Single. Werewolf. in the UK.

-Neville Longbottom’s greatest fear is Severus Snape. Not the woman who tortured his parents into insanity, not the worst wizard of all time, not even any of his other followers. His TEACHER. And this is at an age where Neville doesn’t know everything about Snape and all he’s done. That speaks VOLUMES.

-Condones and takes part in bullying a CHILD when Hermione had enormous teeth EXTENDING PAST HER CHIN growing because of a hex, Snape says, “I see no difference.” After this, Hermione permanently modifies her teeth.

(HBP, Snape Victorious, p160, Arthur A Levine Books edition)

“‘I was interested to see your Patronus.’ He shut the gates in her face with a loud clang and tapped the chains with his wand again, so that they slithered, clinking, back into place. ‘I think you were better off with the old one,’ said Snape, the malice in his voice unmistakable. ‘The new one looks weak.’”

-Mocks Tonks when her Patronus changed when she fell in love with Remus despite the fact that his changed to match Lily’s.

-“Snape took the page bearing Lily’s signature, and her love, and tucked it inside his robes. Then he ripped in two the photograph he was holding, so that he kept the part from which Lily laughed, throwing the portion showing James and Harry back on the floor, under the chest of drawers…” She was laughing at her husband and son. People she loved dearly enough to give up her life and Snape took that and cut them out of it so he could pretend she was laughing for him. Her love in the letter was for Sirius who was the best man at her wedding and her good friend in the order. Snape took that so he could pretend her love was for him. This isn’t romantic. It’s creepy. Snape feels entitled to Lily’s love even though he’s done nothing to deserve it.

-The ONLY reason Snape protects Harry is that he’s under an obligation to by Dumbledore (who is blackmailing him, so Snape doesn’t have a choice). Snape isn’t doing it because he wants to. He’s doing it because if he doesn’t, Dumbledore could sell him out to Voldemort and he’d be killed.

-Again, when he kills Dumbledore, it’s not out of the kindness of his heart or his care for Dumbledore. It’s because he’ll be killed or severely punished if he doesn’t.

-Snape may have done good things, but it isn’t because he wants to. It’s because he doesn’t have a choice.

Essentially, at his roots, Snape is a self-centered blood supremacist who bullies people and only does good things when being threatened and emotionally abuses children because he can’t get over somebody he was attracted to in middle school and is perfectly fine killing adults and infants alike when it’s in his best interest.

I’d like to say that much of this is heavily borrowed or inspired by other writers on this app. I have tagged every user I have access to. However, if you see anything you have written on here or anything please feel free to message me or leave a comment. :)

rich to say arya is not romantic when she has her tiny cute personal set of morals affection and way of loving someone not based on stories songs or physical feature but more like the way she spends time with someone opens up and gets to know them and vice versa. arya didn't have female friends or someone so close only to her which could share with her stories of knights in armour to save her. she made her own way and is her own knight in armour which really finishes the need for someone to find her only if she can too. arya's love for her father ned to rather bring him flowers and ruin her dress rather than wait for someone to bring her flower and tuck it behind her ear... is so unique and different. she also being bullied or made fun of her facial features given names, would never resort to do the same or like someone purely of their face. she likes outcasts and different people. gendry and jon snow are again good examples. she sees interacts and changes opinions about anyone so she isn't fixated or stubborn. she forgets and let goes too. also if someone like arya who has more ample suitable personality which fulfills the "family duty honor" mantra of her house, more than catelyn, or any other starks, she has more dedication loyalty nobility and love for her people and even her friends like hotpie & weasel, SO how can we or should i say arya antis conclude the same arya would or can not love someone in romantic passionate all loving way or manner too if she does....same for just some friends? arya is also young so this leaves large space to cover and see how grrm steers her story in future but she is the most unique female character bent away from traditionally feminine roles of love and duty. she carves her own path. her gesture of bringing flowers for ned and keeping jon's gift of needle so close to her shows she also finds stability and security and protection in material or physical comforts. arya also has drastically diff love language if we overall notice. she spends time with ppl and doing acts of service or physical work is more of her way to tell someone she is fine with them then just relying on verbal sweet affirmations. love and romance are so broad. and arya strives to like and protect any animal individual or hobby of hers. hard to believe she CANNOT love or find love.

It's the first year back at Hogwarts after the War. Most students have returned to finish their education, some just forgot that they CAN leave Hogwarts.

The second years are the hardest to watch. They are only 12, still learning basic runes, and yet they can describe how to cast a crucio curse in detail.

They show their scars off like medals of courage to the older students. The Heros that fought in The Battle! Neville simply pulls them into a hug. Seamus avoids them like the plague, so that they don't see him crying. Every one of their scars is proof that he failed.

Ginny- she can't avoid them, not like Seamus, and she's never been the comforting one; that's Neville's job. But she can protect them. She doesn't promise them that He's never going to hurt them-she won't lie to them-but she will always be there when they need a sword or a shield by their side.

The new DA pro-...DADA professor, they still forget sometimes, doesn't know what to think. What can she possibly teach these children. She was naive to think that these soldiers, cause truly what else could they be called, would be able to hide their flinches or the way they shield the younger students from her, but all she can do is TRY to make them feel safe in a classroom again.

Looking at Mr.Finnigan, who can't bring himself to step inside her classroom half the time, she wonders if these halls will ever be home again. Can home and hell be the same place?

Dean doesn't remember.

When is his parents anniversary? Dad's favorite color is blue, or was it yellow? His youngest sister is either 7 or 8. He can't remember. He can draw Seamus from memory. Until he can't. Hogwarts is the first sketch in his sketchbook, but it was burned in the fireplace at Malfoy Manor. Maybe that's why it feels like he's drawing it for the first time.

Luna is floating. Drifting through empty hallways and crowded streets as if they were the same. Skipping class to sit in the cemetery until the sun sets. The professors never scold her. It's ironic how many people come to her to feel grounded when she can't even stomach breakfast most days. Harry, Dean, Neville, Ginny, Dennis, and so many others. Maybe everyone was right. She really is going crazy.

Blaise doesn't understand. Why Theo won't use his last name, Why Draco doesn'tuse his wand, Why Goyle doesn't talk above a whisper. Why that blonde Griffindor, Jasmine? No Lavender, broke down every time she saw the corner of the great hall.

He KNOWS what happened, but he'll never understand.

Filch Can't. Can't yell at them. Can't scold them. Can't look at them. Can't imagine them as the kids that they're supposed to be. Can't remember what those red haired devils looked like smiling.

43. 43 funerals. McGonagall watched as 43 of her students were put to rest. Most in a small cemetery in the forbidden forest. She doesn't cry. Not at Colin Creevy's not at Fred's, not at Remus' or Sirius'. It's been months and she still hasn't cried.

Until she sees Neville pull a first year away from the DADA professor. Ron carrying Hermione to the infirmary after forgetting to eat for days. Pansy shaking at the mere mention of her brothers. Albus always said to not pity the dead, and instead pity the living. She finally understands what he meant.

But the world keeps spinning, maybe a little too fast some days, classes continue, first years are sorted, quidditch is played, and scars fade.

The effects that no one saw

- After second year, Ginny could no longer stand snakes. Everytime she saw them, all she could think about was how she had woken up in an unfamiliar place, knowing that she had been the one harming everyone, and discovering that the monster had been a basilisk. What if someone had been killed?

- After everything that happened with the Snatchers, Hermione never wore perfume again. She didn't understand how anyone could. They would just lead the enemy right to their own doorsteps! It took her a long time to remember that there was no enemy anymore.

- For the first time ever, Luna hated darkness. She had always loved it before, but after she was held captive in Malfoy Manor, something had changed, and her love of the darkness turned to hatred. She learned how to make glowing balls of pure energy, and in her room, thousands of them floated in the air. It helped to remind her, when she woke up from another nightmare and forgot where she was, that she wasn't in the dungeon anymore.

- In his second year, Harry found that he couldn't look into mirrors anymore. Every time he did, all he thought of was the Mirror of Erised, and whenever he looked at his reflection, he couldn't help but hope that his parents would be looking out at him again. Every time that they weren't there, his heart broke a little more.

- Ron had always been fine with leaving his friends alone. But he was seventeen, and whenever he tried to leave a room that his friends were in, all he felt was the overwhelming panic of them disappearing, leaving him behind even though all he wanted was to join them again.

- "Please let them be okay," Neville whispered to himself whenever he went to sleep. Because after his seventh year, he had grown so used to his friends disappearing in the night, reappearing days later with new injuries and a haunted look in their eyes. He was terrified to close his eyes, because there was always that fear that one day, one of his friends would vanish and would never come back.

- Whenever her children visited her, Molly Weasley was overjoyed. But whenever her family sat down for a meal, that joy soon turned to grief, as Molly realized that once again she had laid a place for a son that would never eat with them again.

- Andromeda Tonks lived in a house that felt far too big for just herself. She was used to laughter filling up the halls and tripping over messes left by a bubbly girl who changed her looks to suit her mood. She was not used to the empty feeling of grief that followed her everywhere she went. A few days a week, her grandson would go to her house to spend time with her, and he was just as bubbly and irrepressible as her daughter had been. She loved him for that, but sometimes, she hated him for it too.

- For five years after the war, George refused to speak, because he could not fathom how he was supposed to say anything when there was no one who would finish his sentences.

- It took years until Draco could allow people to hug him. And even then, it took everything in him not to shudder and recoil, as his mind flashed back to a pair of cold arms embracing him as he chose his family over his friends.

Eddie's April Fools joke would be him bringing Steve a baby that he's watching while he volunteers at the foster center (because kids aren't as judgemental as adults and he can actually do some good without getting nasty looks or whispers about satanism and murder behind his back).

He'd show up at Steve's door and hold out a wide eyed, rosy cheeked, somewhat confused baby like, "Steven, I know it's been a few months since our night of passion, but she's yours. I'm taking you for all you're worth!"

And it's such an obvious joke. Such an obvious prank. He'd just been taking this kid out for a walk and getting some fresh air.

But jokes on Eddie, because Steve wouldn't even think before lighting up, reaching out, and snatching the baby to his chest like oh aren't you so sweet, do you want to come inside? Yes you do!

Eddie tries to explain that it's a joke, but Steve just grabs his hand and squeezes it tight and the words die on his tongue.

"Bah phhhfp," said the baby, giving Eddie a look like, dude, you've got it bad.

Steve didn't drop his hand. His fingers were warm and strong against Eddie's. "Where'd you find her?"

"... foster?" Says Eddie. "I'm uh. I'm watching her?"

"And you brought her here?" Steve's eyes crinkled at the corners. His smile was sunshine.

Eddie opened his mouth. Closed it. Nodded. And then nearly fell backwards when Steve brought the hand to his mouth and pressed a kiss to his knuckles.

"Glooof," said the baby, staring at Eddie. You're an idiot if you don't make a move right now.

Thankfully, he didn't have to. Not when Steve was giving him a tug over the threshold.

"C'mon. Let's get you both inside. I think she needs to be changed. You got a diaper bag hiding somewhere under all that leather?"

It was meant to be a joke. It doesn't land as one. Because somewhere in Steve's head, the paternal switch is cheering, lit up so brightly. Free baby? And the person he liked brought him the baby?

Well. Then there's only one real solution to the problem.

(For Eddie, that solution hits him just as quickly. Especially when the guy he's been in love with since the sixth grade is holding a baby to his chest, shirt speckled in spitup and drool, making coffee the next morning, smiling across the kitchen at Eddie so softly and sweetly. Well. He was done for long ago. Might as well fall all the way.)

Ten years later, Eddie and Steve are sitting on a park bench watching their daughter April try to sacrifice her stuffed bunny on top of the jungle gym.

"You do realize that she was supposed to be a joke, right?" He'd say to Steve, a little teary eyed and so unbelievably happy.

"Jokes on you," Steve would reply easily. "Because I kept you both."

Jokes on him indeed.
