what's the price of a movie ticket in your area?

last week, i challenged you to "skip the takeout", inviting you to donate to a palestinian family instead. i also asked you to "skip the movie", but i was worried that wouldn't motivate you guys as much, because i wasn't sure people really went out to the movies anymore.

turns out they do!

so, i looked up my local theater, and a ticket for deadpool & wolverine is 13 dollars.

13 USD. less than 18 CAD. about 19 australian. under 12 euro and less than 10 quid. roughly 132 SEK.

deadpool & wolverine had a $200 MILLION production budget and a $100 million marketing budget. as of today, august 23, 2024, it has grossed over $1.154 BILLION. so, for disney, your $13 is a drop in the bucket.

but for a palestinian family hoping to escape the horrific conditions in occupied gaza? your $13 means a lot.

so this week, donate the price of a movie ticket to one of these families.

10 full years of the tiniest love I know. 🖤

Before you, I didn’t know what soulmates were. Yet now, an entire decade of cuddling and playing and napping together, I know all too well. You’re the brightest little void, the loudest protester. You let me know immediately when I’m annoying you, whether it’s because I’m playing an instrument or just because I’m not playing with you. You let me know, also, how much you missed me, even if it’s only been only a few hours that we went on without seeing each other. We keep a not so secret arrangement of shared tuna and cheese. We’ve been through so many great and not so great days. I can’t still believe how much you help me overcome sudden waves of sadness by simply laying on my lap. It’s like you know — which, of course, you likely do.

I’m so, so unbelievably proud, happy, and thankful to know no matter what happens, I’ll always have my shadow and my tiny love watching over me. Words aren’t enough to express how much I love you, Black Pearl, so I can only hope slow blinks will suffice.

10 years ago you arrived, in a box, and neither of us had any idea of how much love and kindness we’d bear witness to. I’m tearing up just feeling all this love I have for you. Here’s to so, so many more years of eating cheese and playing with silly toys.
