Gringo absolutely can be insult. Otherwise people wouldn’t use it when they’re upset.

counterpoint: gringo isn’t inherently an insult. if you find that someone is calling you a gringo under negative connotations, it’s because you’re being a dumb gringo. it’s the dumb part you should be insulted by. not the gringo part. be a better gringo and then being called a gringo won’t feel like an insult.
