when your crushโwho's also your brother's best friendโreturns and confesses his love for you, you try your best to avoid him only problem is; you both live in the same condo

"Are we having gimbap today?" you ask Hoseok, sliding into the passenger seat of his car. You've just wrapped up your shift at Jimin's tattoo shop, and true to tradition, Hoseok is here for the pickup.
"I bought pizza too," your best friend announces proudly. He briefly lifts one hand from the wheel, gesturing towards a tower of boxes in the back seat. Clapping your hands, you let out a string of enthusiastic, yet incomprehensible noises.
You can see Hoseok glaring at you with the corner of his eye, his head still dutifully monitoring the road. You sense every inch of his existence judging you, which only improves your mood.
"Yay!" Your voice bubbles over with happiness, accompanied by a wide grin.
"I hate it when you act like a child," he grumbles and shakes his head in mock despair, but you love it.
Teasing him and his social boundaries feels just too enjoyable.
"Bitch, you just hate happiness around you," you retort, to which he cheekily responds with a raised middle finger and you burst out laughing.
"Is Tae coming too?" Hoseok asks, and you shake your head, even though his attention isn't on you.
"Nope. He's out for drinks with Jiminie." As you speak, you shift in your seat for a better view of him, pulling one leg up onto the seat โ careful to keep your shoes from touching the upholstery and drive Hoseok nuts. Leaning your back against the car door, you rest your head on the soft leather.
"Joon's already at the house, though," you add as an afterthought, and Hoseok simply nods in acknowledgment.
Jin and the rest of the guys, they're more than just friends - they're practically brothers. Your families lived in the same neighborhood, and this made their bond so strong, it blurred the lines between friendship and family. Wherever one went, the others followed. It was just how things were growing up.
They even went to the same university and shared an apartment. And when it was time, they all served in the military together.
So, four years ago, when they decided to build a condominium where the seven of them could live together, nobody was surprised. They went all out and constructed a huge building with eight floors. Each person has his own floor, a personal domain, but it is the eighth one that truly symbolizes their bond. It is a communal sanctuary, a mosaic of rooms designed for all of them to hang out together.
Being Jin's little sister, you always felt like you had seven brothers, not just one. To you, they weren't just his friends; they were your own best friends, and you didn't really need anyone else. Maria was the only exception โ your partner in crime.
You never felt lonely with so much love and fun around.
So when you turned 18, two years ago, you asked Jin if you could also move into the condo. He was initially hesitant, concerned that you would get tired of the noise from seven men, but he agreed when he realized you really wanted the move.
In any case, it's better to live with them than your parents. Not that you don't love your parents, but the boys are so cool and fun, and they are always there to help you with anything. Why would you ask for anything else?
The apartment on the eighth floor has an attic too, so technically it feels like two levels. Up in the attic, the guys have put together what you call a playhouse.
It's like a mini-arcade, with everything from a basketball machine and table tennis to karaoke, board games, and cards. They've thought of it all. Puffs are scattered around for lounging, and there's even a mini-fridge, so no one has to trek downstairs for a snack or a drink.
Sometimes you wonder, if you just left them up there, how long would it take before they'd get bored and come down?
The level below is more like a regular apartment. It's got a cozy living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Plus, there are four rooms. The guys have turned one into a gym and another into a gaming room with eight PCs, all set up and ready to go.
Since the other two rooms were still empty, and the guys had been already living almost two years here, you decided not to live with Jin on the sixth floor. Instead, you claimed one room for yourself and convinced Maria to take the other. That way, you don't mess up with your brother's routine too.
You love hanging out with the guys, but sometimes it's nice to have another girl around. So, technically, you're just living with Maria, but the guys are just as close. The fact that there is an internal elevator, in addition to the normal one, helps too.
Over the years, it became a habit for all of you to use the internal elevator that connects all your living rooms. Starting from the basement, which serves as a garage, the elevator goes up from Yoongi's on the first floor all the way to the first level of the eighth floor where you live.
The external elevator, next to the stairs, remains for visitors. When the occasion arises, it is used by them and leads them basically to the hall, just a few steps from each apartment. Since every apartment is essentially one entire floor.
"Has he eaten yet? We can stop to buy more food," Hoseok suggests, glancing at you with a thoughtful expression.
You raise an eyebrow in surprise, "You've already got four pizzas and five plates of gimbap in the back. How much more do we need to feed Joon as well?" Your tone is genuinely curious.
How does he think the food isn't enough?
"I'm sure there's also kimchi back at the house," you add with a slight smile, trying to reassure Hoseok, though you're not entirely sure why you feel the need to.
Hoseok nods sagely, "It's always better to have extra than to stay hungry," he says, his voice low as if he's said something wise, coupled with a nonchalant smile and a confident tilt of his chin.
You can't help but chuckle, "True. And there's always someone who magically appears when there's talk of food." You give a nod to Hoseok's point, acknowledging its validity.
Usually, Taehyung is the culprit of such food-related appearances, but since he's out with Jimin, you're pretty sure the current stash of food will suffice until they return.
Just then, the muffled sound of a message notification buzzes from your purse. You lean over and you grab the bag, sitting next to your feet, to get your phone.
Are you down for a movie?
You read Yoongi's message aloud, essentially asking the question to Hoseok.
"Sure," Hoseok agrees, but then he adds with a hint of mischief in his eyes, "Let Yoongi handle the projector this time..." He glances at you, a knowing look in his eyes, and you can't help but roll your own.
"It was just that one time!" you protest, a bit exasperated that he's still holding that incident over your head.
"You should've known better than to trust Joon with devices, y/n," Hoseok chides lightly.
And deep down, you know he's right...
Living with Namjoon was a new experience for you. How were you to know he was that clumsy? When he broke the projector and the guys made you pay 5k for the damaged equipment, even though it was his fault, it was more than a lesson for you not to leave him close to devices ever again. Needless to say, you didn't talk to him for a whole month after that.
Honestly, how does someone manage to be that clumsy?
It had only been a month since you moved in, but the memory still makes your blood boil โ and yet, somehow, also makes you laugh. Namjoon, trying to plug in the cord, pulled too hard, thinking it was longer. The projector went flying across the living room, right off the table.
In complete silence, he turned to see all of you staring back at him from the couch. You still remember the sheepish look on his face, flabbergasted at how this damage happened. Without a word, he dumped the broken projector in the trash, then calmly brought out his laptop and hooked it up to the TV.
When Jin opened his mouth, probably to complain, Namjoon simply put a hand over it.ย 'Not a word hyung'ย he said, then started the movie as if the whole fiasco had never happened, leaving all of you dumbfounded.
Set it up pls :)
We'll be there in 5
You quickly message Yoongi back and throw your phone into your bag again.
After a short drive, Hoseok smoothly steers the car into the parking area in the basement of the building. You both get out, and you lend a hand with the load of food, prepping to head up.
"I'll stop to drop off my bag and come up," Hoseok calls out, pausing at the second floor.
"Okay, I'll go ahead," you reply and grab the bags with the food from his hand and wait for him to hop into his living room to get whatever he needs before coming back.
Continuing your way to your apartment, you adjust all the bags in your hands because they feel too heavy to carry by yourself.
Once you reach your floor, you try to push the door open with your foot but fail, as you are not strong enough.
"Hello! Anyone here?" you yell, hoping someone heard you.
The sound of approaching footsteps brings a small victory smile to your face. The door swings open, and there's Jin, his expression full of annoyance. You roll your eyes at his reaction seeing you; you bet he was in the middle of a game to look so irritated.
"Where's Hobi?" Jin asks, but you don't give him an answer. Instead, you shove all the bags in his direction and free yourself to step into the house.
"Hello to you too," you greet him sarcastically, and he smiles mockingly, sticking his tongue out.
"How charming," you quip back, holding the door for him now burdened with the food.
"He'll be right up," you mention, referring to Hoseok as you slip off your shoes.
Jin, now balancing the food carefully, asks, "So, where's everyone else?" And you follow him towards the kitchen.
"You're the one who's here, how am I supposed to know?" you tease Jin, who shoots back a glare with a dead serious face because you both know you're in everyone's business.
"Fine," you chuckle, settling onto a stool. "Tae and Jimin are out for drinks, Yoongi's probably looking for the projector in the attic so we can watch a movie, Hobi was just with me, he'll join soon. I think Joon mentioned a meeting this afternoon and planned to head home after. And Maria... Maria's clocking out at ten, so she'll be here then."
Jin looks at you as he arranges the food on plates, but his expression puzzles you. He's wearing this odd, almost goofy smile that doesn't quite fit the ordinary Friday evening vibe. You run through the usual reasons and try to understand what is going on. His favorite team didn't win a championship, he didn't get a promotion since he's the CEO, so unless he's fallen in love, which you highly doubt, he's just starting to go crazy.
"Aren't you forgetting someone?" Jin suddenly asks and, you swear, he almost chuckles.
Your brother's unusual demeanor throws you off, prompting a confused smile. "You're literally right here," you respond, puzzled by his cryptic hint. You are not sure what he's expecting you to say.
"Not me, pabo," he says, rolling his eyes, and you're officially clueless.
Sensing your oblivious state he adds, "What about JK?"
It clicks then, yet somehow, you're more worried about your brother's state.
"How can I possibly know what Kookie is doing now in Busan, Jin?"
Jungkook's departure two years ago, for reasons unknown to you, marked a painful chapter. Of all the guys, your bond with him had been the deepest. Yet, without warning, when he left, he decided to stop all communication with you, and you haven't talked to him for two years.
You know he and the guys talk regularly and are still close, but you never understood if you did something that bothered him and caused him to treat you like that. A week before you moved in, he left and hasn't been back since. The boys visit him every weekend they get a chance, but since Jungkook doesn't speak to you, you figured it'd be awkward to tag along, so you never did.
Only Maria knows that growing up you had the biggest crush on him. You didn't act on it, though, considering he is one of your brother's best friends, which complicates everything. And you love your brother very much; you wouldn't risk jeopardizing his relationship with one of the people he cares about the most.
You cried for days on Maria's lap because he left the condo when you came. Because he stopped caring about your existence. Because you never understood what went wrong...
"Right," Jin responds, and you rise from your seat, crossing the kitchen to where he stands.
With a hint of concern, you reach out to feel his forehead. He jerks back slightly.
"What are you doing?" he asks, a whine in his voice.
"Checking if you have a fever," you reply naturally. It's what you assume is the reason behind his attitude.
He shakes his head and laughs, "I'm not sick."
"I doubt that, but whatever."
Not giving any more thought to your weird brother, you grab some plates and head to the living room, arranging them neatly on the dining table. "Dinner's ready!" Your voice echoes, calling everyone to the meal. Then, you quickly return to the kitchen to help Jin with the remaining dishes.
Gradually, the room fills up as everyone gathers to eat. After dinner, you all find spots around the living room, sprawled on the couch, the floor, and cushy puffs.
"What a great movie," Maria comments from her spot beside you.
You nod, feeling tears well up in your eyes. There's something about the dance scene inย Awakeningsย that always makes you emotional and cry instantly. You find it so poetically sad, capturing in such a romantic way the vulnerability of all people. It's a gentle reminder that no human is superior to nature, and in fact, its power is limited. It gives you comfort that today, while you're young, you can take advantage at least of that.
As the credits roll, Namjoon, seated near the light switch, stands and flicks the lights on. The sudden brightness causes a momentary squint among everyone before your eyes adjust to the change.
"You're still crying overย Awakenings," someone comments in the background, but with everyone around you mumbling about the movie, it is hard to pinpoint who spoke.
Needing a moment, you stand to refill your glass with water. That's when you spotย him.
You've had these hallucinations of Jungkook before, so you try to dismiss the figure as another figment of your imagination, walking past it to the kitchen. On your return, the puzzled stares from everyone, including Maria, catch you off guard. Their expressions are filled with confusion and concern.
You have to admit, though, you're getting a bit worried about your crush on Jungkook because, back from the kitchen, you still see him there, sitting on the couch next to your brother.
Your eyes fall on Yoongi, who is staring at you, his mouth agape in shock.
"What?" you ask him.
Why is everyone acting so weird today?
Your gaze follows Yoongi's, pointing to whereย heย is, but the spot must be empty in Yoongi's vision.
Stubbornly, Jungkook is still there, looking as real as ever.
Gosh, you have to see a therapist. Because, this can't be right.
You've been seeing this man in front of you in various situations for the past two years, sometimes purposely searching for him in crowds, but with a shake of your head, his figure would get blurred, eventually lost.
Standing there, glass in hand, the impossible happens. "Won't you say hello?" the vision of Jungkook speaks, sitting calmly on the couch, and your heart skips a beat.
Is your mind playing tricks again?
When he stands up, your eyes follow, puzzled, every movement. As he steps forward, he stands in front of you and gently tucks a strand of hair behind your ear.
This is when you freeze. The glass slipping from your grasp and shattering on the floor, water splashing over your feet. But the shock of the broken glass pales in comparison to what's unfolding before you.
"Kookie..." Your voice is a whisper, disbelief lacing every syllable.
He is ...real?
Impossible!
"Hello baby," Jungkook greets you with a smile filled with affection and pulls you into the tightest hug.

When you opened your eyes, bright light enveloped your vision. Your head was killing you and there was an aftertaste of something funny smelling carved into your memory. You couldn't have drunk that much, could you? When your eyes adjusted to the outside world and you glanced around the surrounding area, your blood ran cold. While you believed that you weren't intoxicated enough to provoke anyone's anger at the club you were partying at with your friends the night before, the man currently sitting across from you was undoubtedly seething with anger.
The memories of the night before were hazy and like a puzzle, so you tried putting the pieces together to try and figure out how you were sitting in front of an unfamiliar man, seemingly in his mid-forties at least. You remember drinking with your friends, then informing them of your early departure back to your apartment. On your way back, someone had put a cloth with an old scent across your face until unconsciousness took over. And now, you woke up, with your hands bound behind the chair you were sat at, barefoot and in the dress from last night.
The silence was loud as the man stared at you, not even uttering a word. The chair you were sitting at was causing you discomfort, together with the headache that was already forming. The man's gaze bore into you, a disdainful expression etched on his face. You wondered if he looked at you with such disgust because of your appearance. You knew the dress was slightly shorter that you would have preferred usually, but it was your friend's birthday celebration and she insisted for you two to wear matching dresses, only in different color. The man staring at you in that moment wasn't the first one who was disgusted at the way younger generations were dressed today.
Maybe you would regret it, but you weren't the one to keep your mouth shut when you were nervous. โOkay, if no one is going to talk, I will, โ Your voice was hoarse so you had to take a second to clear your throat. โWho are you, and why am I here? It would be appreciated if you could untie me. I have no idea what you want from me and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to help you either no matter-"
A laugh echoed from somewhere behind you and you turned your head, looking over your shoulder to see a figure standing at the doorway. It was a boy your age, give or take a year or two. His hair was light and fell over his eyes. He wore a loose-fitting black T-shirt, complemented by faded blue jeans. A silver chain hung around his neck, and on his feet, he sported a pair of worn-in sneakers. He seemed quite laid-back and chill, for a guy who kidnapped you.
You could assume his voice was deep from the laugh you've heard, but you didn't have a chance to find out because the older man spoke. โSuch a mouthful on an early morning,โ He laughed. โI'm Kim Taeyong, and that is my son, Yoongi,โ Shifting your head back as much as your body allowed, you caught another glimpse of the blonde boy. He leaned against a wall, arms folded across his chest and offered a subtle wave in acknowledgment. You rolled your eyes and redirected your attention back to his father. โYou, sweetheart,โ Mr. Kim leaned forward, a luxury table presenting as the only barrier between you two. โAre here to pay for your father's mistake.โ
It felt as if all the air was sucked out of your lungs at once, but you tried to control yourself and not show them that you were scared out of your mind. You had watched a lot of movies and it pays off for the main character to act confident. Maybe you would even be able to throw some punches and kicks like in the movies if you tried and then escape. But maybe you were being too confident even thinking of it. So, you opted to simply glare at the older man in front of you, despite the alcohol you consumed threatening to find its way back. โMy father's mistake? What are you talking about? My father would never do anything wrong, he's innocent.โ
Mr. Kim's eyes turned cold; it made you even more nervous. It was as if you could feel your body freezing just from his look. This was a dangerous man sitting in front of you. โInnocence is subjective, my dear. I'll enlighten you; I owe you that much. Your father ruined my life, destroyed the one thing I held dear the most. And now, I'll destroy everything he holds dear, starting with you.โ
His words sent shivers down your spine and your lip quivered. Stay strong, Y/N! No matter how much you said those words to yourself, your mind decided not to listen. And you cursed whoever tied your hands behind your back, because you couldn't wipe away the tears that began falling from your eyes. Now they will know just how scared you were.
โYou can't just blame someone else for your problems! Kidnapping me won't fix whatever issues you have with my father!โ You felt a surge of anger wash over you, and you were desperate. Although, if the movies thought you right, there was no compromising with people like Mr. Kim. โJust let me go, I won't tell anyone, I promise.โ You whined.
Mr. Kim leaned back in his chair. No matter what you said, his resolve was unyielding and the coldness in his eyes did not disappear. โLet you go? If only it were that simple,โ He stood, walking to your side of the table. Your body began shivering against your own will. Is he going to hurt you right now? To your relief, Mr. Kim sat on the edge of the table and stared down at you. โYour father must understand the consequences of his actions, and you're the perfect pawn in this little game.โ
Your pleas for your life fell on deaf ears. The weight of the situation was suddenly too much to bear, it pressed down on you, cutting the air from your lungs. And silent tears still streamed down your face. You felt helpless, you were at mercy of a man thirsty for vengeance and there was nothing you could do to change his mind about hurting you.
What you didn't see, was the blonde boy, Yoongi, watching the conversation between you and his father with an unreadable expression. His father was ruthless, and Yoongi was the complete opposite, but he wouldn't go against his own father. As Mr. Kim spoke, Yoongi's eyes lingered on you, and for an instant, his facade cracked. He felt bad for you, especially since you were nothing but collateral damage in this whole situation. You were young and had your whole life ahead of you. You studied medicine and would become a doctor some day and save lives. And yet, here they were, about to take that away from you.
"Please," you begged, your voice breaking, "I don't want any part in whatever revenge you're seeking. I just want to go home. I won't say anything; I'll disappear, and you'll never have to see me again."
The room fell into a heavy silence, the only sound being your sniffles and the ominous ticking of a clock in the background. Mr. Kim finally spoke, his tone unwavering. "Disappearing won't bring back my dead wife. You're here to make sure your father understands that." Mr. Kim stood up again, and you flinched, thinking he would hurt you. But he walked past you, toward the door. โYoongi, take our guest to a room for the night.โ
Yoongi obeyed, approaching you. He untied your hands and the ropes fell away, allowing you a temporary feeling of relief. Yoongi didn't make eye contact with you as he grabbed you by your arm and led you out of the room. His touch was surprisingly gentle, which only confused you further. Shouldn't he be rough, pulling you by your hair or leading you on gunpoint? He led you through a corridor, down to another one with doors on each side. He opened the door on your right and ushered you inside.
The room you were brought to was surprisingly ordinary, contrast to the ominous atmosphere of the Kim manor. In one corner was a simple bed, neatly made and a small window with the curtains open, letting in rays of sunshine. On the other side, a work desk and a closet, made of fine wood with beautiful carved designs. Yoongi released your arm and turned to leave, but you stopped him before he could close the door.
โPlease wait!โ To your surprise, he really did stop. However, he kept his back turned to you. โCan I, at least, have a change of clothes?โ He hesitated for a moment before he turned to you. He looked you up and down and the gesture made you want to crawl into a hole and never crawl back out.
โFine,โ He mumbled and left, closing the door with a soft click, leaving you alone in the room. He didn't return for a few minutes and his absence made you question whether or not he was returning. You opted to sit on the bed and wait for his return, if he does. Lucky for you, the door opened again soon, and Yoongi returned with a bundle of clothes in his hands. He wordlessly tossed them onto the bed next to you. โThere. Change and don't bother making a big deal. There is no one else in the house except for me right now,โ he said. Without waiting for your response, he turned to leave again, the door closing behind him. This time, you could hear the click of the lock, meaning that he locked you inside.
You sighed and decided to try and sleep off the hangover. Now that your life wasn't in any immediate danger, you were aware of the growing nausea and hoped that sleep would push it away. You put on the sweatpants and the dark, oversized t-shirt Yoongi had brought to you, with the addition of simple, black ankle socks. The clothing was for a male and it left you wondering who it belonged to. But you didn't want to tire your mind with questions like that for now. Covering your, previously freezing, body with the blanket, you fell asleep almost immediately. You needed to be in your best form if you were to escape anyway, so an hour or two of sleep wouldn't hurt.

As Kyungmi made the final adjustments to her appearance, she was forced to take a deep breath to calm her nerves. Today was the day she had been waiting for with a lot of excitement โ her first day of college. Despite her excitement, her brown locks seemed to have a mind of their own, refusing to cooperate with Kyungmi's attempts to style them the way she imagined. With a frustrated groan, Kyungmi set down her brush, accepting the fact that her hair won the battle today.
Her nerves were making her nauseous as she glanced at her attic room, decorated to her liking. From the cozy rugs to the string lights adorning the walls, every corner of the room reflected Kyungmi's personality and style. The room was her sanctuary, a place where she could run away when everything gets overwhelming. After the death of her parents, she spent most of her time curled up in her bed in the very same room. ย
โKyungmi noona, hyung is asking if you're ready?!โ Taehyung shouted from downstairs. Kyungmi couldn't contain her smile at the sound of Taehyung's voice. He was her little brother and she cared for him more than she cared for herself, despite his tendency to be loud and a bully toward her. She still loved him with all her heart. Taking one last look at herself in the mirror, Kyungmi took a deep breath. She may be nervous, but she was also excited to begin the new chapter of her life. And having her best friend, Jimin, by her side made her feel less anxious about the upcoming day and the upcoming semester.
With a determined nod, Kyungmi made her way downstairs to meet her older brother Seokjin, who will be driving her to the campus as he had his own classes at the same time as Kyungmi. As she descended the stairs, she found him waiting for her in the foyer, his car keys jingling in his hand. Seokjin offered a warm smile as she approached. โGood morning, oppa,โ Kyungmi greeted.
โMorning, Mi. Ready for your first day?โ Seokjin asked. Usually, he would ruffle her hair just to mess with her, but today, he understood how important the day was for her. So, he didn't want to mess up her hair for the big day.
Kyungmi nodded, trying to muster up as much confidence as she could. "As ready as I'll ever be, I guess."
Seokjin chuckled softly, handing her a little jewelry box. โYou'll do great, Mi. Don't worry,โ Kyungmi stared at the box in his hand with surprise. She accepted his gift with trembling hands. โIt's family heirloom. Mum had been keeping it safe for your first day in the big world.โ Seokjin explained, urging Kyungmi to take the box.
Kyungmi's breath caught in her throat as she carefully opened the box, revealing a delicate necklace inside. The pendant, an intricately designed silver charm glinted in the soft morning light. The beauty of it took Kyungmi's breath away. She couldn't place her finger on it, but she was sure there was a certain warmth coming from the necklace. But she decided not to dwell on something that may be in her head as she took the necklace and handed it to her big brother. Spinning around, Kyungmi gathered her hair and lifted it up. Seokjin secured the clasp of the necklace, letting it fall down his sister's neck.
As the pendant was secured, a gust of air swept through the room, causing the curtains to dance in its wake. Kyungmi's breath caught in her throat as she felt a strange tingling sensation wash over her, as if the very air around her was charged with electricity. Once the air and the sensation were over, she glanced around the room, but everything seemed to be in order again. Seokjin stared at her with concern and understanding, she couldn't quite understand it herself. โAre you alright, Kyungmi?โ
She nodded, trying to shake off the strange sensation that lingered in the air. She wanted to ask if he had felt it as well, but she didn't, for a reason unknown to her. โI'm fine, oppa,โ instead, she forced a smile. โJust a draft, I guess.โ But deep down, she couldn't shake the feeling she had within her. Something had changed and whatever it was, her older brother seemed to know something he wasn't willing to share just yet.

As Seokjin's car pulled up to the bustling campus of the Korea University, Kyungmi's excitement mingled with nervousness. Seokjin and she stepped out of the car, collecting their bags with the essentials they needed for the day. Kyungmi took in the scene of students mingling with each other and pilling out of the building. Beside her, Seokjin offered a comforting smile, his hand resting on her shoulder. โEverything will be alright, you'll do amazing,โ Seokjin's voice was filled with confidence and pride for his little sister.
Kyungmi returned the smile, suddenly wrapping her arms around her brother. โThanks, Jin oppa,โ Seokjin sighed with a smile as he patted her head lovingly.
As they made their way toward the entrance of the building, Kyungmi's heart skipped a beat when she spotted her best friend waiting for her near the entrance. His familiar smile filled her with a sense of warmth and reassurance, easing the last traces of nerves from her mind. Kyungmi said goodbye to her brother before she rushed over to greet Jimin.
โJimin-ah!โ Kyungmi exclaimed, breaking into a grin.
Jimin's smile widened as he enveloped her in a hug, his arms wrapping around her. โHey, Mi!โ Suddenly, Jimin tensed in her hold and Kyungmi noticed. Jimin frowned when he felt something different about her, something present within her. Something that wasn't there last night when he had visited her at her home. Kyungmi pulled away from Jimin and looked at him, asking if he was alright.
His gazed lowered from her eyes to the silver pendant hanging around her neck. It wasn't something she had on her before, he would know as she shared everything with him, and vice versa. Well, he didn't share everything. Jimin knew what that sensation within Kyungmi he was feeling was, and now he was sure it had something to do with the pendant. A flicker of recognition crossed Jimin's features as he realized the significance of the pendant โ the piece of jewelry that had held her powers hidden.
โJimin-ah, are you alright?โ Jimin picked up on Kyungmi's worry and he quickly masked his true feeling with a small smile.
โI'm fine,โ he replied. โJust got lost in thought for a moment.โ
Despite Jimin's reassuring words, Kyungmi knew there was more to it than he was letting in on. She knew him enough to recognize when something was bothering him, and this time, she couldn't shake the feeling that he was hiding something from her. Something having to do with herself and the pendant he had been staring at. She wanted to press further, to uncover the secret he's hiding, but she also knew that he would tell her when he felt comfortable with it. So, Kyungmi nodded and forced a smile onto her face. โAlright then,โ she said, her voice gentle. โLet's head to class, shall we?โ

โAlright, everyone, let's delve into a fascinating chapter of psychology's history. In the mid-1800s, a German physiologist named Wilhelm Wundt was making waves with his groundbreaking research. Wundt, driven by scientific curiosity, began to investigate reaction times using rigorous scientific methods.
In 1873, he penned a seminal work titled "Principles of Physiological Psychology." This book was a game-changer, as it laid out numerous critical connections between the field of physiology and the study of human thought and behavior. Wundt's insights and observations paved the way for a deeper understanding of the human mind.
But Wundt didn't stop there. In 1879, he took a monumental step by establishing the world's first psychology laboratory at the University of Leipzig. This event marked a pivotal moment in history and is widely regarded as the official beginning of psychology as a distinct and separate scientific discipline.
So, in essence, Wundt's pioneering work not only laid the groundwork for modern psychology but also set the stage for countless discoveries and advancements in the field. It's truly remarkable to think about the impact that one individual's dedication and passion for science can have on our understanding of the human mind.โ
Kyungmi sat in class as the professor explained the history of psychology. Her attention was divided between the professor's lecture and a water bottle sitting on the table in front of her. She couldn't take her eyes off of it for an unknown reason, yet she wanted to focus on the lecture and take notes when she needed. However, an uneasy feeling had settled in the pit of her stomach, making her unable to focus properly. The professor's words became distant as her gaze remained fixed on the bottle. It was a simple plastic bottle, filled with clear liquid, yet it had her almost undivided attention now.
And then, without a warning, it happened.
The water inside the bottle froze right before her widening eyes. Her heart began pounding in her chest as she stared at the solid block of ice within the confines of the plastic. A gasp escaped her lips as she recoiled in disbelief, her mind struggling to comprehend what she had just witnessed. Suddenly, she began glancing around the amphitheater, her heart racing as she prayed that no one had seen the strange phenomenon that had taken place just a moment ago.
But then her eyes met Jimin's.
His expression mirrored her own shock and disbelief, but for a very different reason. While he knew that she had been given her powers, Jimin was shocked that she would use them so openly. Or at least he hoped that was an accident. Nevertheless, he began looking around the class, also hoping no one had seen what she had done.
'The class is so boring.'
'I thought this would be better.'
'Is the rest going to be boring as this?'
'I'm so excited to learn more.'
As Kyungmi's eyes scanned the room, she turned toward the source of multiple voices. It seemed as if they've spoken something but didn't open their mouth. Her brow's furrowed as she turned toward a new speaker, disappointment evident when she realized their lips were shut. She felt as if they were talking directly to her, their thoughts projected into her mind. Slowly and surely, unease crept upon Kyungmi and even Jimin didn't understand what was happening to the distressed girl next to him.
He tried to call out her name, but she seemed lost, frantically looking at the unfamiliar faces of their future classmates. He could feel a change within her, her power beginning to rise and become stronger. Kyungmi began covering her ears. He didn't know, but the voices inside her head were getting larger in number and her ears were beginning to ring. As the voices inside her head grew louder and more unbearable, Kyungmi felt like screaming, the pressure building behind her ears almost too much to bear. But she knew she couldn't give in to the overwhelming urge, not with the eyes of her classmates now turning towards her, their whispers adding to the chaos inside her mind.
And then, in a flash of panic and desperation, Kyungmi's notebook burst into flames, the sudden burst of heat and light causing the fire alarm to blare deafeningly throughout the classroom. The students erupted into a frenzy of distress, their voices mingling with the shrill sound of the alarm as they scrambled to gather their belongings and evacuate the room. Even the professor, usually composed and collected, looked on with concern as chaos erupted around them. Water began to pour from the ceiling, dousing the flames and adding to the pandemonium as students hurriedly made their way towards the exits.
But through the chaos, Jimin's gaze remained fixed on Kyungmi, his heart pounding in his chest as he watched blood begin to trickle from her ears.

"Namjoon oppa!" Kyungmi called out from the moment she burst through the door of their home. After Jimin helped her calm down and clean the blood off her skin, Kyungmi excused herself for the day and decided to go home. Jimin didn't want to leave her alone after what had happened and he decided to join her. On their way to Kyungmi's house they've had an interesting conversation. No, Jimin didn't reveal his part in all of the mess, but he did act like a good friend he was to her and listened to the worried Kyungmi and her doubts. Jimin, the calm one at the moment, closed the front door gently after entering.
"Upstairs Kyungmi-ah!" The girl followed the voice of her second older brother, rushing up the stairs to his room. Jimin decided to stay behind and make himself comfortable on the sofa, this was a family matter after all.
Kyungmi disregarded her manners and burst through Namjoon's door, looking confused, worried and angry, all at once. Before Namjoon could question her behavior, Kyungmi spoke. "I have a million questions and I know you and Seokjin oppa have all the answers, so you better not lie to me,"
Namjoon's eyebrows furrowed as he watched his sister's emotional outburst, concern flickering in his eyes. He could sense the gravity of the situation, the weight of Kyungmi's distress hanging heavy in the air. Taking a deep breath, he motioned for her to take a seat, his voice calm and reassuring.
"Kyungmi, what happened? You're shaking," Namjoon said gently, his tone filled with genuine concern as he reached out to place a comforting hand on her shoulder.
Kyungmi took a deep breath, trying to steady her trembling nerves as she met Namjoon's gaze. "It's... it's hard to explain," she began, her voice wavering slightly as she struggled to find the right words.
"Hey," Namjoon pulled her flush against him. "Hey, I got you. Tell me what happened," Namjoon's voice was muffled by Kyungmi's hair as he kissed the top of her head. He couldn't help but notice the pendant hanging around her neck, so he was sure he knew what his little sister was going to ask about.
She began recalling the events that happened in class, from the frozen water to the fire breaking out right in front of her. And she didn't forget to mention the voices that felt like they were digging into the center of her brain itself. Namjoon's jaw tightened as he listened, thinking of his own first experience with magic. "Joon oppa, what is happening to me?"
His heart clenched at how desperate she sounded for answers and he prayed that his brothers turned up at any moment, but they won't be present for at least two hours from now. So, he decided to tell her all be could and if needed, the others would fill in the gaps. He sighed, looking at his little sister. "What I'm about to tell you, it won't be easy to take in. But try to keep an open mind, alright?" Kyungmi nodded, wiping away a few stray tears that have escaped. "Kyungmi, listen to me carefully," Namjoon began, his voice gentle but firm as he looked into his sister's eyes. "You need to know the truth about our family, about who we are and where we come from."
Taking a deep breath, Namjoon explained everything that has been on his mind for what felt like forever to him. He recalled the story he had heard a few years prior as well, a story about their mother and her two sisters โ their aunts. โOur mother and our aunts were witches, Mi. They were known as the Charmed Ones, the most powerful trio,โ he continued, watching for Kyungmi's reaction. She listened carefully and even if his words sounded genuine, she still thought they were a joke.
โThe three of them were very powerful, possessing amazing powers, one's that they used to protect the innocent and fight evil. And when they passed away, their powers were passed down to us, Jin hyung, Taehyung and I became the Charmed Trio,โ Namjoon's voice held a hint of emotion as he spoke about their family and their late mother. โWe've been using those powers to help people, we've learned to control them very well,โ Kyungmi's gaze never left her brother's, searching for any hint of lies or deception. It wasn't strange for them to pull a prank or two on their sister.
Namjoon then paused for a moment, allowing his words to sink in before he continued. โTo keep you save, mum decided to lock your powers into a pendant and told Jin hyung to give it to you on this day,โ He explained. Kyungmi sucked in a breath when he mentioned the pendant. That would explain why strange things have happened the moment her oldest brother gave her the necklace. โThat's why hyung gave it to you this morning,โ he nodded toward the pendant that hung around Kyungmi's neck.
Absentmindedly, Kyungmi traced her fingers over the pendant, realizing that it unlocked the abilities she had used that day without even trying. She didnโt realize she was lost in thought but Namjoon didnโt mind as he gave her a moment to process everything, feeling guilty over bombing her with all the information at once. Kyungmi was in an awe at the prospect of all the power that the pendant held for years, and now that power lay within her.
โWe didnโt know what exactly your powers were, but I suspect you have the ability to hear other peopleโs thoughts and manipulate elements such as water and fire,โ as Namjoon spoke, he reached out to take Kyungmiโs hand in his own, squeezing it tightly to offer his support. โMi, weโre here for you. Whatever happens, you wonโt be alone.โ
Kyungmi began laughing all of a sudden and Namjoonโs brows furrowed. She suddenly looked at him, searching for any sign of amusement behind his eyes. โYouโre joking, right?โ She scoffed. โThis has to be some kind of prank, there is no way we are involved in something like this.โ
But as her eyes locked with his, she didnโt see any amusement and it made her slightly embarrassed after her sudden outburst. Namjoon sighed, reaching for something in a drawer of his work table. He pulled out a thick book that looked as if it couldnโt even fit into the small space, but somehow it did. Namjoon placed the book into Kyungmiโs hands. โThis is the Book of Shadows,โ he said, and began flipping through the pages to show them to Kyungmi. As the pages changed, Kyungmi could see the text and the pictures on the paper change, there seemed to be a lot of information about the supernatural beings. Her eyes widened as she took in all the words written on the pages, air stuck in her throat.
โNamjoon-ah, Kyungmi-ah! Weโre home!โ Seokjin called out from downstairs, and Kyungmi suddenly shut the book closed. Namjoon watched as she jumped from her seat and rushed out of his room. He placed the Book of Shadows on his work desk and followed his furious sister.

"Y/n!" Taehyung whines for what must be the millionth time in the last thirty minutes. When, well, you should be the one whining. "Will you please stay still for a moment? I'm getting dizzy over here!"
You pretend he's not there, a tactic you've employed since you rushed back from the cafeteria half an hour ago. When Taehyung saw you in that state, he followed you, terrified. You briefly explained what happened and immediately started packing your things.
Kim Namjoon humiliated you. It may have been for a valid reason, but was it necessary to call you out like that?
Resigned to the fact that you won't be working here tomorrow, you retorted that you were on your coffee break and that your love life was none of his business. Because it's not. Then, you walked away, not waiting to hear that you were fired.
Instead, once you finish packing, you plan to write your resignation letter, leave it in his office, and walk the hell out of here.
You're aware of your colleagues sneaking glances, some discreetly, others not so much, but you couldn't care less.
No one's stopping you. Not even Taehyung, who's been watching you, trying to make sense of your turbulent demeanor. He's failed so far. He's in a delirious monologue, and you're in a delirious state of action. You're not in the mood to communicate right now, and he knows it, but he still thinks it's worth a try.
He only stops talking and remains quiet when you take a seat at your desk. He watches as you grab a pen and paper, beginning to write with such force that he's sure you'll get a blister, the base of your hand turning blue, same hue as your pen, as your left hand smudges the freshly written letters.
He has an idea of what you're doing. Shaking his head, he speaks up one last time.
"Y/n, why are you doing this?"
"I won't give him the satisfaction of firing me, Tae," you respond, and you know he understands. He always does, and now is no exception. Grasping the arms of his chair, he leans forward, displaying a determination and confidence that, you know, spells trouble.
"I'll resign too then!" Taehyung declares triumphantly, and you close your eyes to avoid rolling them. His attitude is endearing, yet far from rational or effective. Not that you expected rationality from him.
"Tae," you begin softly, warmed by his attempt to handle the situation, and you admit as much.
"I know you want to support me," you say, voicing your thoughts. He's been around long enough to break down your walls and earn your trust. You're only speaking the truth.
"But if we're both jobless, how are we going to live?"
"Shit, didn't think of that," Taehyung says, scratching his head, his pouty lips and eyes looking to the side. He's considering the situation, not having thought of this possibility, and now he's torn, unsure of what to do.
But in reality, there's not much to weigh.
Eventually, he nods, and a sigh of relief washes over you. Taehyung decides to drop it for now, setting aside his rebellious thought of demonstrating his friendship in such a drastic way. You're grateful that, at least, you'll still have a roof over your head.
You will find another job, but right now, your resignation is the priority.
Sliding your chair back from your desk and standing up, you hold your future firmly in your hands, a paper that can ignite change. With a deep breath, you let a wave of adrenaline and encouragement sweep over you.
It's only when you've taken a few steps that Taehyung calls your name. When you face him, a look of wicked disbelief is spread across his face.
"So, you're becoming a stay-at-home bestie..." he declares more than asks, narrowing his eyes.
You giggle and nod your head enthusiastically but don't reply. You blow him a kiss and mouthย 'wish me luck'ย before resuming your path.
Look at that, dreams do come true...
Heย has an office on every floor, but he usually prefers the one on the sixth floor, just above yours. So, you decide to stop by there first. Seeing his secretary there, you smile. Getting it right on your first try feels somewhat like an accomplishment.
You enjoy being proven right; it gives you a sense of power.
As you approach and stand in front of Jimin, your smile turns a bit sad. You like the guy, you think. He seems like a nice and fun person, and the few times you've talked, you actually enjoyed the conversations. It's a shame you won't cross paths with him again. Such is life.
You're not one to make friends easily, and this extends to work friends. You have acquaintances, but with a change of workplace, these relationships change too.
"Hello, Jimin," you announce your presence, as he seems too engrossed in his computer to notice your arrival, your addition to his scenery.
"Y/n," Jimin replies with a smile that makes his eyes disappear. "Need any help?" he asks genuinely.
You nod. "I need to speak with your boss."
Jimin frowns for a moment but doesn't question you, neither your serious demeanor nor your choice of words.
I need to speak with your boss. Your boss.
Funny. You think about how confidently you address him now, almost arrogantly, and how just an hour ago you would have peed yourself at even the mention of his name by someone else. But it doesn't matter anymore. You're not working for him; he holds no power over you. There's no need to feel restrained, afraid even.
"He's currently on a break. Let me check his availability," Jimin responds professionally, even though you aren't, and picks up the phone to make an internal call.
"Namjoon, Y/n is here. Should I let her in?"
You're surprised by the closeness Jimin seems to share with him, but then again, he has been working alongside him for years. It's natural for them to develop a sort of friendship.
You hadn't expected it, if you are being honest. Namjoon doesn't seem like someone who easily connects with people. But you don't dwell on the thought; instead, you watch as Jimin nods and hums before hanging up the phone.
"He'll see you in five minutes," Jimin informs you, suggesting you take a seat in the waiting area.
You notice his smile isn't as genuine this time. There's an awkwardness to it.
What you don't realize is how aware Namjoon is of the situation.
Even though he's free now, Namjoon deliberately doesn't accept your visit immediately. He's exerting whatever power he has, intending to make you nervous, second-guess your decision, and question whether it's the right thing to do.
The truth is, since the moment you turned from the cafeteria and started your little rebellion, he's been observing you through security cameras.ย
On his phone while heading to his office via his private elevator. On his PC, the big screen, since he arrived.
He finds it amusing that you think you have a say in this.ย Cute, he thinks, smirking and brushing his thumb against his bottom lip. Namjoon knows about your desire to quit, he's not oblivious. He also knows that as long as it's in his hands, you'll work here.
He's determined to make sure of it.
And just because he can, just because he finds some pleasure in seeing you lose a bit of your composure, the five minutes turn into ten. Fifteen. Half an hour.
He does nothing but observe your movements, the features of your face, any change in them, any sign that you're caving in.
He has plenty of work to do, but decides it can wait. He finds watching you and anticipating the show you'll put on far more entertaining.
A grin spreads across Namjoon's face when he sees you stand up, fed up with the nonsense and informing Jimin that you're coming in.ย
Instantly, he presses a button to unlock his door. Unbeknownst to you, the door was locked. You think you're taking matters into your own hands, but in reality, he's only allowing you. To come in. To hold an illusion of control.
Namjoon decides to let you speak your piece.ย
As you approach his desk, you attribute the trembling in your legs to the rush of adrenaline, not to the intensity of Namjoon's gaze burning into your skin. His eyes are locked on you, not diverting anywhere else.
"How can I help you?" Namjoon asks, hoping for a neutral comment. He wants to maintain his composure, to hide how much he's enjoying this. It's been ages since anyone has even tried to challenge him. He can't remember the last time.
Your proposal for a project had already caught his attention, and the way you defended yourself in the cafeteria... it intrigued him. He hadn't intended to snap and be so rude; he can't fathom what came over him. Intimidation isn't usually his style; he's known for his composure and the superiority that emanates from him. But in that moment, he displayed emotions he didn't know he was capable of.
However, you remain unaware of this. You're oblivious to everything related to his inner thoughts and feelings.
Because this is what Namjoon wants. And he always gets what he wants. And right now, he wants you.
You... fighting your battle.
"Hello, Mr.," you maintain formalities, even though you're puzzled by his calm demeanor. You had expected him to be somewhat annoyed at having his break interrupted, which you assume is a rare and precious occasion - and it is. Yet, he doesn't seem irritated; he's impassive.
You're unsure whether this is better or worse.
He gestures for you to take a seat, but you prefer to remain standing. You want to get this over with quickly and move on with your day.ย
Realise how stupid your actions were tonight, perhaps cry about them, eat ice cream until your cheeks numb, and then get over it.
You have a routine of confrontation to follow, your normality, the tranquility of it. You can't afford to waste much time now.
You've made a decision and are determined to stick to it.
There's no turning back now.
Your pride won't allow it.
"Very well," Namjoon says, observing as you stubbornly remain standing, the paper still clutched tightly in your hands.
"I'm listening," he states.
You swallow hard and take a deep breath. You're ready.
Taking two more steps, you position yourself directly in front of his desk. His gaze never leaves you, silently challenging you, testing your limits, curious to see if your confidence is genuine.
For all you understand, it could be insanity.
You're not backing down.
You repeat the mantra to yourself and place your resignation letter on his desk. "This is my two-week notice Mr., I'm quitting my job."
A heavy silence descends following your announcement. You expect some form of agreement from him, perhaps a nod, as you're saving him from paying compensation โ not that he lacks the funds for it, but you assumed he would at least acknowledge your decision.
This is the first instant you've felt taken aback since making your decision. His reaction, or lack thereof, throws you off. In all the scenarios you had imagined, Namjoon remaining silent was never one of them.
You find his silence... disturbing. You don't like it. It feels like something crawling up your spine, making your hair stand on end, and you have an urge to shake it off.
So, you break the silence.
"Did you hear me?"
"No," Namjoon responds, picking up the paper you handed him, glancing at it, and then back at you. A faint smile briefly appears and vanishes so quickly you almost doubt its existence. When you blink and look at him again, it's gone.ย Did you imagine it?
"Oh, um, I want to qui-" you start, obviously less confident now. If it didn't work the first time, now, as your certainty begins to fade, you're not sure of your impact.
"No, you are not quitting," Namjoon states, or rather finishes his sentence. Very effectively...
"I don't accept this letter." With that, he methodically tears the paper into pieces right in front of you. Deliberately, almost ostentatiously, he tosses your desire away. He stares at you, seeming to see right through you as he does so.
For reasons beyond your understanding, you find him irritating.
Irritatingly hot.
A voice inside you argues. You roll your eyes at the thought and at the man in front of you.
"Excuse me?" you say, feeling your frustration mount. The events at the cafeteria, the waiting, and now his attitude โ it's all accumulating. It's completely unacceptable.
"You heard me the first time," he says confidently, further fueling your irritation.
Oh, he is so sure of himself.
What kind of sick display of power is this?
In all the years he's been an established businessman, Namjoon has never come across as this arrogant. Yes, he has power and uses it for his own benefit, but this level of cockiness? That's new.
It's only with you that he seems to have this relentless urge to push your buttons, perhaps in the wrong way. He's intrigued by you. Doesn't know how to express it.
Yet, he's aware of the power he holds.
And he's choosing to use it.
Even if it means you might end up hating him.
He thinks it's worth the risk. Even that outcome is a win for him. He's getting what he wants. He's keeping you close.
"You can't do that." He notices that you've dropped the formalย 'Mr'.
Good, he hates the sound of it coming from your mouth.
No longer addressing him with any semblance of respect, he can't blame you, really. Frankly, he's surprised you haven't resorted to outright name-calling by now.
"Of course I can," Namjoon replies with a cocky tone, and you snort in response. A sarcastic smile plays on your face, clearly indicating your displeasure with the situation. The furrow in your brows confirms it, and the small nerve trembling on your temple solidifies it.
"It's against the law." Despite your irritation, you persist, not ready to give up.
But his next action leaves you speechless.
Because this time, it's not subtle. It's deliberate.
The way he smirks at you, looking provocatively, unabashedly, without shame or guilt. There's no mistaking it this time.
He takes his time observing you. Namjoon leans back in his chair, his legs spreading slightly, a further display of the power he possesses, how comfortable he is in his own skin.
"Sue me then."
