Tomboys had been the favored ones in fantasy fiction for a long time.

No– traditionally pretty, feminine girls, who are also powerful have been favored in fantasy fiction for a long time.

Arwen, Eowyn, Leia, Hermione, just to name a few, are not tomboys. Are they badasses and fighters? Absolutely. But they are not tomboys. They are still entirely beautiful and feminine. A huge part of the old sci-fi/fantasy genre centers on women who are both “badass” but also, traditionally gorgeous and feminine. 

Amy Dunne would call this the “cool girl” trope. 

Rarely do you see a heroine who is described as “horseface” by some people, or in Brienne’s case, straight up ugly. Rarely do you get to see these girls immerse themselves into completely masculine pursuits (rather than balancing both masculine and feminine pursuits). Rarely do you get to see inside the mind of a girl who feels inadequate because she isn’t described as beautiful, or delicate, or feminine. 

Tomboys aren’t favored. 

Pretty girls who can do everything are. There’s a stark difference. 

I want more mean bi girlie characters !!
