whenever I see an extreme take on <insert literally any cultural artifact no matter how insignificant> along the lines of

you can't say X and be a good person 😡

if you don't do Y then you're a bad ally 😡

oh you engaged with Z person? we aren't doing that 😡

I like to remind myself that a silly quirk of the human mind is that when we see something written down we imbue it with a greatly exagerrated sense of importance

that dumb ultimatum, that demand to adhere or be doomed, it is often literally just one person's dumb opinion. ee gads, but what if it's three or four people's dumb opinion?! or a hundred people's dumb opinion?! oh no!!

my point is, you don't need to align yourself with or position yourself in conflict with every terrible take that crosses your path. you can just let it pass you by like a turd on a stream.

Upside down works best for me but horizontally is probably closest
