Sloane Estrada—Hill grew up thinking her big sister was a superhero. She punched boys that asked her out, cut her hair in the bathroom mirror when she felt like it, and enlisted in the army on her eighteenth birthday. In all respects, Maria was the coolest person she knew. Despite that, Maria was always somewhat of a cautionary tale for Sloane growing up. She'd had a rocky relationship with their parents, especially their mother. Their stepdad was the most non-partisan of the bunch, but even he hadn't been able to make excuses for Maria forever. Sloane always had the feeling that they were part of the reason that she'd been so eager to leave. For years, the communication was on-and-off. Sloane heard news through her parents, through the occasional phone call, and then she heard nothing at all. Maria went quiet around Sloane's sixth grade graduation. She still texted on birthdays and Christmas (so they knew she was alive), but other than that? It was year-round radio silence. What they didn't know was that her sister was strategically climbing the ranks of S.H.I.E.L.D. so quickly that she became the right hand man to Director Nick Fury himself. The same Nick Fury that hand-picked Sloane for a mission that required, in his words, young blood. Safe to say, Maria was not briefed on this before it was set in motion. Suddenly, the curtain is pulled back for Sloane, introducing her to a side of Maria that she'd never known before. Her sister wasn't a superhero. She told the superheroes what to do. And that made her even cooler.

She always assumed something like that was punishable by death, or maybe that you'd just burst into flames, but there her sister was, swearing like a sailor in front of him — at him — and receiving no consequences as a result. That was power. Sloane would've found it awesome if she hadn't been a little terrified. ALSO KNOWN AS... "You're Hill's sister?" "Surprised?" "Annoyed is more like it."
