I've been thinking about how in a lot of fictional cosmologies, deities become stronger the more people believe in them, and it's led to me kicking around the idea of a sufficiently experienced paladin beginning to operate under the same idea.

Paladins are already powered by their own belief in their oaths and ideals, but what if, through their own legendary deeds, some of their power starts to come from the people who believe in them?

Sooner or later every hero whose actions have prompted the world under their protection to empower them, to go through this moment of recognition that what I defend is what strengthens me how much this is a siphoning of belief into power or just the simple truth that love and the desire to help those we care for is semantic: ultimately, it’s an indication that we are never alone.

To go back to reality and how this can apply your day to day, I’m going to reference one of my personal heroes, Dr. Jonas Salk. Salk, when he created the polio vaccine, didn’t consider it a triumph that he was solely responsible for for, but that he was the tip of the pen and sword applied in the defense of mankind, all the effort and hope applied in protecting people from this disease.
