the duality of "please relate to me so i don't feel so broken and alone" and "you can't relate to me i'm the most specialest boy ever and thats MY thing"
Millon on ASPD vs:
PPD:
ASPD & PPD share a lot of characteristics
Both can be hypersensitive and might read innocent or well-meaning comments or behaviours as insulting or malevolent. This can lead to preemptive aggression
Both are easily angered
Both are βoverly concernedβ with protecting their own self-determination
Both sometimes have run-ins with authorities
In ASPD, this often is more due to impulsive actions
They βcreate their own enemiesβ through their actions
People with ASPD put up a façade of apathy about possible negative consequences of their illegal actions
People with PPD, on the other hand, are inherently suspicious and hypervigilant. They have trouble relaxing and are always on guard
The actions of people with PPD are rational in their worldview, while the actions of people with ASPD are impulsive and βarationalβ
BPD & HPD:
People with BPD, HPD & ASPD can be manipulative and impulsive, and can be dramatic, but the reasons are different:
in ASPD, it reflects a need for control, while in BPD itβs a need for support, and in HPD itβs a need for attention
βThe histrionic pulls, and the antisocial pushesβ
People with HPD arenβt usually hostile, while itβs a characteristic of ASPD
In ASPD, impulsivity reflects a need for immediate gratification
In BPD, itβs a need for short-term gratification, but can be in reaction to anxiety, feeling of emptiness, or dissociation
In HPD, impulsivity is part of a βscattered cognitive styleβ, related to emotions and distraction
People with ASPD & BPD are more intense than people with HPD
In ASPD, acting out looks like aggression, while in BPD it looks more like suicidal gestures and self-harm
