As Promised, I Took Baxter And Bentley Outside Today, Most Likely For The First Time In Their Lives.

As promised, I took Baxter and Bentley outside today, most likely for the first time in their lives. Bentley probably doesn't have much longer to live, so I wanted him to have the experience before he goes.

If was granted a wish to be able to draw like any cartoonist, it would be either Jack Davis or Wally Wood.

It was a very rough day yesterday, and probably will be for Baxter for a while. After Bentley had been put to rest at the Humane Society, his body was brought back to my house so Baxter could say goodbye. That was absolutely heartbreaking to watch. Baxter kept nudging Bentley's lifeless body, trying to wake him up. Later after we removed Bentley, Baxter kept looking in all the hide boxes and getting up on his hind legs, looking around for Bentley.

He's eating this morning, which is a good sign. But again, he still pauses and looks for Bentley, wondering why he isn't there eating with him. We're going to try to find him a new rabbit friend this week. In the meantime, I have ordered a second x-pen that I will set up in the living room, so he can be with me while I work. Normally I keep the current pen in the 'rabbit room', because I'm never sure how the fosters will react to my cats. My cats love rabbits, mind you, and my oldest cat prefers rabbits to other cats, often jumping in the pen and snuggling up to them. Bentley seemed a little skittish of the cats, so I kept them isolated, but Baxter seems curious, so maybe some cat company will help him out until we can find a rabbit friend for him.
