There Is Hope. I Promise. Young People Just Won Their Case Against The State Of Montana. Ecuadoreans

There is hope. I promise. Young people just won their case against the state of Montana. Ecuadoreans braved escalating political violence to vote against oil drilling in the Amazon. Brazilian deforestation is down by enormous amounts since Lula took office. They’ve invented hydropanels that synthesise pure water from the air. People are farming in solar parks. A ship just launched for its maiden voyage using rigid sails designed to mimic wind turbine blades. EV sales are taking off, and, more crucially, cities are re-assessing their very relationship with the car. By the 2024 Olympics the river Seine will be safe for people to swim in again. More and more people are replacing their gas boilers with heat pumps. Solarpunks are growing crops in their back garden and distributing them to their neighbours. Great tracts of land are being given back to nature. Young people are channelling their energies into meaningful careers. Pilots are leaving the aviation industry. Yes, the world is dark and terrible and full of awful dangers that keep you up at night, but we are a huge movement that grows every day in numbers and power. Your small actions matter. Our collective triumphs are increasing. Things are going to get harder, extreme weather will be more common, but with ingenuity, resilience and crucially, COMMUNITY, we can build an equitable world on this strange, tired old planet. See you in the future.

I feel very conflicted on the finale of The Acolyte - it felt quite rushed to me, like Osha turning evil felt way too sudden and Mae cooperating with Qimir felt way too sudden and Sol going that unhinged felt so sudden that it’s basically character assassination imo - but damn those sibling feels at the end really got to me. The hug and the tears and the ā€œI’ll find you I promiseā€ and Osha collapsing sobbing into Mae’s arms after learning the truth… it’s so goddamn good and it almost makes me feel a bit disappointed because I really wish we could’ve seen Osha and Mae repairing their relationship in the presence of the Light.

After watching E7, I really thought it was setting up a finale where Sol’s transparency helps turn Mae back to the Light. Like maybe he promises to tell the Council everything that happened on Brendok those 16 years ago and to face whatever punishment they give him, and then he and Mae team up to save Osha from Qimir’s manipulation.

We could have had the Osha and Mae confrontation where Osha learned that her hate for Mae was misplaced, had her be furious at Sol upon learning the truth, had Qimir goad her into using her anger to kill Sol, had Mae be the one to talk her down, had the three of them team up to apprehend Qimir and give to the Jedi as a prisoner. And then at the end of it all, we could’ve had all the tears and hugs and confessions and forgiveness between Osha and Mae and between the siblings and Sol. It could end with Sol being expelled from the Jedi Order and him, Osha, and Mae going to hunt down Qimir’s master.

And I think it would’ve worked so well, both thematically and as a set up for a second season. Like, going into the second season, we would have Qimir in prison, being subject to interrogations by the Jedi, which would create a really compelling arc for Venestra and we could focus on her character much more—and then the whole hunt for Plagueis, which would inadvertently lead to Plagueis learning how the witches created Osha and Mae and wanting to capture them to experiment with them and learn the whole ā€œcreating life using the forceā€ thing that leads to the PT. We could get Osha’s training arc, as well Mae’s training arc, since Mae went through the ceremony with the coven and presumably has Cool Witch Powers now.

Ughhhhhhhhh ok this AU is starting to consume my mind, so if anyone wants to write a fic about this, please feel free (and also dm me so I can read it!!!), because otherwise, I’m adding this to my WIP list lol

(and yes, this is my ā€œStar Wars would be so good if it was goodā€ moment, and yes, I just really want Osha and Mae and Sol to be a big happy family, sue me)

everybodys gotta get back into the practice of using pseudonyms online... i remember the time of screen names where u never ever told anyone ur real name and that was just understood as basic internet safety. plus having a screen name is fun because sometimes it sticks so well that it becomes part of ur identity that u can use in whatever facet of ur life you choose. it rocks to pick your own name
