9:10PM, neighbor!haechan doesn't want to go home yet. 1027words

You stretch as you get up, glancing over at Haechan to see that he’s half asleep, pillows stacked on the edge of your couch to support him. He mumbles something incoherent, causing you to laugh as you leave him long enough to go to the bathroom and make two cups of tea.

“Mmm, noona,” he whines when you get back, miserably awake. “Don’t wanna go home yet.”

You set both cups on your coffee table, ruffling his hair before you sit back down. “You can sleep in my bed if you want.”

He sits up straight, eyes wide as he looks at you. “Really?”

“Unless you like being uncomfortable while you sleep.” You turn the show back on, glancing at him when you realize he hasn’t moved.

“You’re not coming with me?”

“You…want me to show you to my room?” You ask, grinning at him as you point behind you, where the edge of your bed peaks out from behind the half-wall built into your studio apartment. “Oh. No.” You laugh when you realize he wants you to lie down with him. “I’m still an episode behind.”

“I’m sorryyyy.” He scrubs his face with his palms, back to looking wholly exhausted as he deflates. “I didn’t mean to watch ahead.”

You pause the show just as the intro ends. “Are you going to lay down? I really don’t mind.”

He considers it before finally shaking his head. “What if I lay in your lap?”

You feel your own eyes widen in surprise. Somehow, Haechan laying his head in your lap feels a hell of a lot more intimate than him sleeping in your bed. It reminds you that you kissed him. You kissed him, and you think you both liked it, but that was three weeks ago. You haven’t mentioned or done it again, yet here he is, blinking sleepily at you as he waits for your answer. 

“Okay.”

He smiles, folding himself into the small space of your couch and turning his back to the television. “Tell me when you wan’your tea…pass it t’you, kay?”

“Yeah.” You have no idea what to do with your hands, but he tucks his between his thighs as he cuddles into you. “Okay.”

Normal, you tell yourself. This is normal. But, if you’re honest, you aren’t sure anyone has laid in your lap. Not without a pillow or comforter cushioning your thighs. And certainly not facing your stomach. Just relax.

You swallow, turning the show back on as you shift a little under him, slumping against the back of the couch. He sighs when he feels you relax, nuzzling into your sweatshirt, and you resist the nervous laugh that attempts to slip from your lips.

Normal. You reach for the blanket on the back of the couch and lay it over him before resting one hand on his shoulder. Just relax. It only takes a second or two longer for you to let your other hand settle in his hair, brushing it away from his face as you look down at him to see that his eyes are closed, but he’s smiling softly.

“Smell really good, noona,” he mumbles as though he feels your eyes on him. Heat blooms in your stomach. “‘n you’re so soft…” 

You laugh this time, nails dragging along his scalp as you draw your fingers through his hair. “Yeah, yeah,” you say, just as quietly, but he’s already out like a light.

Knowing he’s comfortable enough with you to fall asleep so easily causes the heat in your stomach to unfurl through every inch of your body. It worsens when, halfway through the episode —while half snoring and open-mouth breathing, he turns to lay on his stomach. His arms curl around your waist as his face presses deeper into your sweatshirt, and he stays just like that until you gently rouse him at the end of the episode.

“Ah, noona,” he gets up and stretches, offering you a sleepy little smile and a glimpse of his midriff before rubbing his face. “That’s the best sleep I’ve had in a while.” He picks up both mugs and starts toward your kitchen. “Can you believe she hasn’t told him about her dad?”

It takes you a second to realize he's asking about the show. “Yeah.”

He frowns at you as he heats the mugs in the microwave. “What do you mean, yeah?”

“She doesn’t want to trouble him with it,” you shrug as you grab one of the snacks piled on the table. “I understand that.”

“He loves her." He sets the mugs back on the table before sitting back down. “He wants her to rely on him…”

“She's also obviously really independent. Admitting you have these…weak spots to someone who looks up to you isn't ideal."

"Noona." He leans closer to you, searching your face as though he can't believe what he's hearing before reiterating, "He loves her."

You laugh. "We know that because we can see both sides. I don't think she realizes it."

He nods slowly. "Right…yeah…perspective."

He restarts the show, tugging the blanket over himself as he lays back down. You aren't sure why you're surprised when his head meets your thighs for a second time, but you are. He's warm and solid and awake and it shouldn't be any different from him being asleep a few minutes ago but it is and you can't explain why. Or, maybe you don't want to

(It's enough knowing you want to kiss him again. Acknowledging anything more than that feels like something for you to do when he isn't right in front of you. On you. You can feel each breath that he takes, and it dawns on you that this is the closest you've been to someone since breaking up with your ex over a year ago.)

"Yn," Haechan says, the sound of your name from his lips startling you. "If your dad was in the hospital, I'd want you to tell me."

"Yeah." You go back to playing with his hair, ignoring the fact that it may be more comforting to you than it is to him. "Okay."
