Listen If The Study Of Ancient Humans Doesnt Make You At Least A Little Bit Emotional Idk What To Say.
Listen if the study of ancient humans doesn’t make you at least a little bit emotional idk what to say.
I started crying today at the museum because they had reconstructed the shoes of Otzi the iceman.

Either he or someone he knew who cared about him made these shoes out of grass and bear skin and twine and he was wearing them when he died over five thousand years ago.
And a Czech researcher and his students did reconstructions of these shoes and wore them to the same place where he died to test them out and they were like yep! These shoes are really cozy and comfy and didn’t give us blisters while hiking!
Is that not just the coolest shit ever????

Jews: “So, these are the laws that we have, and these are the ‘fences’ we have culturally put up around the law, to prevent accidentally breaking them, or accidentally leading others to break them. Understanding what those ‘fences’ actually are and their implications can make it a lot more feasible to actually follow these laws. If taken to the most extreme, things can get unwieldy. It’s commonly understood that we live by the laws, not die by them. For example, even though people might assume this isn’t kosher, it’s totally permissible because—”
Edgy atheist whose family dragged him to a Baptist church every Wednesday: “Jews rules lawyering God to get around their stupid oppressive made up laws 🙄”

Among the books my wife and I inherited from E was this set of four instruction manuals. Titled "The Amateur Mechanic, vols. I-IV", they are among my favorite additions to my collection.
Y'all, these books have instructions on how to build the following:
A printing press
Induction coils
Greenhouses
Riveted boots
A wood harp
Taxidermied animals
Artificial marble
Model "flying machines"
A "Cartesian diver or bottle-imp"
A machine for stoning raisins
An orange-cutting machine for marmalade
An "magneto-electric machine" (????)
To say nothing of all the repair tips and advice it offers.
Based on their contents and the spines, I have to assume that these are the alternate universe versions of the three journals from Gravity Falls.

Not gonna lie, my morale is at the lowest point it's been since the beginning of the invasion. Russians are successfully occupying more and more territories and shell frontline regions every day. People are dying, our culture and herritage is destroyed. International aid dwindled significantly because of american bullshit. Mobilization law has been signed and there is a chance that my family members get conscripted soon. Don't even get me started on internal political problems. A bunch of articles in foreign media talking about our defeat and "peace talks" (what a joke).
It feels like there were no at least moderately good news in a while. On top of that, the feeling that we are screaming into the void is stronger than ever. I'm happy when I see a foreigner online supporting us and spreading the word, because it gets rarer. Ukrainians feel like none of what's happening gets outside our info bubble. Most likely no one but Ukrainians will see this post either. Honestly don't know what to make of all of this.
