SoI Wouldnt Say I Think Rogue Is Trans, But I Think That, Prior To Us Learning Her Birth Name And Past

So…I wouldn’t say I think Rogue is trans, but I think that, prior to us learning her birth name and past in the 2000s, it would have worked really really well if she was? Like, firstly, we don’t know her birth name or her pre-Mystique circumstances for AGES. Like finding out her name was Anna Marie and her parents were Owen and Priscilla and she was raised by her Aunt Carrie and all that is very, very recent. Her history was a complete mystery for DECADES. And when Mystique finds her, she frankly looks very boyish to me?

And being a little baby trans girl in the South decades ago is a damn good reason for her to have run away and gotten so defensive. And I think that Mystique, for all her flaws, is someone who would accept her and raise her as a girl if she identified that way. I mean, for crying out loud, she’s a bisexual shapeshifter in a longterm relationship with another woman who also has to hide being a mutant. She gets it. And when Rogue first appears in the comics, she’s frankly pretty butch, while simultaneously wearing a lot of bad makeup:

but she gets progressively more “feminine” looking and fashionable, with clothing that shows the outline of her body more and more:

Til by the 90s, she was this curvy bombshell with big beauty-queen hair:

From a meta perspective, it’s just art evolution, and probably trying to make her more “evil looking” when she was a villain versus more appealing as a hero, but I also think that HRT is a pretty damn good in-universe explanation for how someone’s appearance could change so dramatically. It could also explain why, for all her angst about AH CAIN’T TOUCH YOU REMY, she never used one of the MANY power-nullifiers they came across to get intimate with him—she might have been scared of more than just her powers. So, do I think Rogue was intended as trans? Definitely not, that would take a level of communication between multiple writers across decades that just doesn’t happen in comics, and for them all to agree on something that would be controversial now, let alone then. I wouldn’t even say I headcanon her as trans, per se, I don’t really headcanon her as specifically trans or cis. But I do think that, prior to her full past reveal, it sure would have made a LOT of freaking sense. I guess the best way to put it is that I think she COULD be. I mean I guess technically anyone could be, but there’s a LOT of justification for Rogue in particular. Also, I’d like to give credit to my pal @hexiva, who put this idea in my head in the first place. They pointed out the art shift thing and said they hc’d Rogue as trans because of it and I was like HOLY SHIT I NEVER CONSIDERED THAT and the rest just kinda fell into place in my head this morning.

What Do We Mean When We Talk About Gender Dysphoria And Euphoria? We Broke Them Down Into Three Categories:

What do we mean when we talk about gender dysphoria and euphoria? We broke them down into three categories: cognitive, social, and body dysphoria/euphoria. The journey of self-acceptance and living as your authentic self is complicated and full of obstacles sometimes, but we hope this framework helps better understand where your feelings are coming from! Cognitive Dysphoria/Euphoria: is based on your internalized self perceptions. Do you accidentally misgender yourself? Do you feel accepting and loving towards your authentic self? Social Dysphoria/Euphoria: is based on other people/society’s perceptions of you, whether that be being misgendered, or feeling safe and comfortable with your chosen family. How does the outside world’s perceptions impact the way you feel about yourself? Body Dysphoria/Euphoria: is based on your physical comfort in your body and perceptions, and whether or not your body “feels right” from how you feel inside. How does your relationship to your body make you feel? What makes you feel most held and seen? What causes you discomfort? Comment below—and head over to our blog (getplume.co/blog) to read more about euphoria, dysphoria, and everything in between.

posting on twitter feels like throwing something you worked on for hours, days, weeks into a river, hoping it'll get swept out to sea for many people to experience, only for it to immediately crash into some rocks and explode. its gone now. if no one sees it in the 0.00003 seconds it exists on their timelines, no one ever will

posting on tumblr is like carefully placing your work in the middle of a dark abandoned factory, and slowly a bunch of weird little goblins manifest from the shadows and touch your work all over with their little raccoon hands and share it with each other. sometimes they find your thing again many years later and excitedly share it again

the weird goblins are much more enjoyable
