I read Red Queen quite a while ago, so maybe it was explained but I always thought Elara and Maven made him a target because Ptolemus was the House Samos' Heir Aka Volo's Heir, killing him would mean that House Samos would now have a personal reason to go after the Scarlet Guard.

So like the Guard kills him thinking it'll lead a blow to the City's defense, but the only thing they've done is put one of the strongest and feared high house of Norta after them.

Volo's 'love' for his children or lack thereof and the importance towards House Samos' Legacy His Legacy and the fact that Scarlet Guard killed his biggest investment, would definitely have him hunting them down.

(Looking at Evangeline Povs in Broken Throne, maybe he loved Ptolemus, so he would want to end his son's murderers)

And inevitably mean that no matter their stance on Maven Vs Cal, House Samos would stand firmly with Maven (at least when it came to SGs and ending the rebellion) so Anabel wouldn't have been able to convince Volo to get Evangeline to rescue Mare.

And effectively cutting off an ally to Cal's Succession + Montfort and Scarlet Guard.

(Maybe even preventing the Kingdom of the Rift from being formed)

(Not that Elara and Maven would have a way of knowing that)

I don't know that just what I've always thought.

So you know how Maven gave the Scarlet Guard a list of names that would supposedly cause the most damage to silvers if they were removed from society? Well, we all know how the names were really of people that opposed Elara and were a threat to her and Maven’s reign. Ptolemus Samos was on that list. I’m wondering what, exactly, did Ptolemus do to earn a spot on the list? He doesn’t seem like the type to be on there. Maybe I’m forgetting where it was explained in the book, but all I’m wondering is why did Maven want to kill Ptolemus so bad?

anyway just a reminder for the myth lovers out there

king arthur was welsh. merlin was welsh. camelot was in wales. the lady and the lake she pops out of; welsh. excalibur; magic inanimate welsh object. etc.

on the way to see family, i drive past a lake that in which is welsh legend, is the last resting place of excalibur.

i’m just saying in my experience a lot of these legends had been so anglo-fied in the past and it’s like, all this cool shit is celtic welsh legend.
