Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder
The golden palace being a sight even for the God of architecture. Laden in supreme wealth, it lures the imagination to the exotic luxuries it beholds within it. The Kingdom vows bliss, variant types of jewellery and prestige to govern you. But you know, it would be humiliation that will command you.
And so it wouldn't be a surprise when there was no celebration, no drum rolls or the excited squeals of the citizens. As they await your sight with bated breath, no, instead the silence lays heavy onto the deserted road that now symbolises death.
But tolerance was something that you as a royal women was born with, and so you grabbed the chance to poke your head out and take a look at the flourishing Sun Dynasty.
Rebellious. It was in your very blood and so it wasn't a surprise for you. A women to have such reactions from the community. Not the very first time nor it was the last. People say that a women's next life starts the moment she is a married- which means your reborn but are you really?
For birth itself signifies leaving behind the ties of the previous life, cutting off everyone; it is the complete detachment of the senses and utter naivety of a child. But the thing is, no human can undo what it has learn. For going back means changing the laws itself, and you would be damned if you became just what they want you to be. A sacrificial lamb.
Like the eyes of a hawk- they watch your move but make sure to not let you have a look. Typical society.
"I don't think we are welcomed here?" Your maid mutters, concern lurking in her eyes.
You tuck your veil, enticing the ringlets of bangles to drop in chaotic madness. "A temporary happening," you shrug, not deeming it fit for any attention.
In a mere handful of seconds, your passing through the enormous gates of the Sun Palace. But dare you try to search its end- and the sun blares your vision. Not wishing to lit a fire of any rumour, you hide behind your protection of a veil. Something that hides you but also lets you have somewhat of a control on your facial expressions.
The last thing you want is to trip and make a fool out of yourself.
The palanquin comes to a screeching halt, as a line of guards surround it. Forming a small protection or was it. Being still, you hear some voices- particularly of Jin and Namjoon. They are talking in hushed whispers, and so it was impossible for you to hear.
Slipping the curtains, you step out even though Anika tugs at your heavily embroidered skirt, that shimmers under the attention of the Sun like tiny diamonds. Ignoring her valiant attempt to keep you behind, you walk smoothly towards the Princes who seem to be in a heated debate with a guard whose attire screams of a status. Not someone ordinary for the way he reprimands Jin was a sign.
"How could you bring doom to our Kingdom? Have you forgotten all your teachings." His voice, like iron strikes them and for a second. You flinch, fingers curling across your veil to get rid of the tiny fear that lurks on the surface.
"Sire, Present us to court if you really wish no harm on your dynasty." You speak, voice halting any further talk.
He glares at your insolence, "Are you threatening us?"
You shake your head, chuckling at his meagre thoughts that only seemed to amuse you. "I merely want to dispel the misunderstanding that might I say, is infuriating."
"She even speaks poison." He hisses, and if you continue speaking like that, he might as well burst like a volcano. But in face of the haunting danger, you stand poised and regal. Showing no signs fear and weakness. If anything, you held your head high. Even the disruption of the veil cannot dim the fire burning in your gaze. You know your worth and status very well.
And in front of this special guard, your status is far too superior. "When using a weapon, you must be careful. I don't think Sun Kingdom can handle the Eagle." You smile, even as his face contorts into something inhuman.
He stills at your threat, as if not believing you could even bring that. The Eagle signifies your Kingdom, and by saying that. Your indirectly threatening him to hold his tongue, otherwise take the wrath of his actions. Your neither some close relative of his, nor are you someone who he can control with whatever nonsense he spews.
"Enough, Y/n." Jin calls you, even as the others watch you with interest. Your not only a strange women but an interesting one at that.
You nod, stepping away from the crow. "As you wish, My darling husband."
Jin chokes, his cheeks heating up as Namjoon clears his throat. Clearly not understanding your moods. "What business can you have in the court?"
You grin, not giving away anything. "Let's find out, shall we?"
With that, you move along. At your departure, Anika hurries out as if caught on fire but not before profusely bowing down to everyone the Princess might have offended while tailing behind you who is far too gone to heed the words of 'wait' or 'stop'.
Taehyung sighs, "She doesn't even know where the court is."
Yoongi scoffs, "She infuriates me."
Jungkook chuckles, "And she amazes me."
Hoseok smiles, "She enchants me just like the moon enchants the chakor bird."
Jin groans, fed up with the whole drama. "Namjoon go quickly and see she doesn't go the wrong way."
Namjoon is ready to say no but one look from Jin and he is hurrying.
You pass through the inner quarters that is filled in carved paintings of the ancestors, an equitable dome size ceiling acting as a facade for those who look on outside, hell for those who fell inside. Atleast on your part.
You take in every route, eyes committing to detail. Humming softly, you ignore the looks of the maids that erupt in chaos. Stumbling out of your way, but your eyes don't see them. It's instead watching the palace, the various routes and the confusion as to how will you examine every corner was already a stressing thought on your part.
"Anika, I think my adventures might start again." You risk looking back, the sulking face of your companion seemingly working in diminishing your entire mood "Is something the matter?"
"Your acting strange, Princess." She points out, even as you exhale. The short action, causing the veil to flutter to an inch.
Others call it a mistake. You call it your greatest gift. Your a staunch worshipper of the Gods, even if the rumours often depict you as a wild princess who loves exploring everything. Someone who has a bad temper and an equally bad tongue that works no less than a sword. "Why do you think I chose suitors from here?"
Anika, your childhood companion contemplates your words, carefully weaving her explanation "In order to be freed from Prince Adam and his constant threat on you. But Princess, Seven husband is still too much."
You hum, recalling the bitter man who not only was a thorn but a constant reminder of what was to be done, in order to escape him.
"That only time will reveal." You chuckle, as hurried steps of someone nearing you halted your thoughts. Looking back, you see Namjoon who might you add is very irritated. He might as well scold you just like that guard.
"Arrogance is not for a lady, Y/n. The court is not in that direction," he seethes, cheeks poking out with the enormous depth of his respite for you.
Shrugging, you speak nonchalantly at the accusation, "I am not used to people speaking disrespectfully to me, so tolerate my self-respect in garb of arrogance."
Namjoon scowls even as you continue looking around. It wasn't long, before he tells you to 'follow him ' and follow you do. Your head is slightly aching from all the events. Body and feet screaming for some relief but you know, it isn't possible. Not until you meet the King.
Silence.
Complete silence is what your met with. The court, a magnificent sight of splendor and authority was cold, calculative and unforgiving. Up above the stairs, was a throne poised in various gems of priceless beauty. It was familiar to your own Kingdom but alas being a stranger instilled a flinching moment of loneliness.
How you were faraway from your homeland, representing your clan, your upbringing which suddenly had your shoulders weigh more than than an elephant.
"Princess of the Light Kingdom. Future Queen Of the Sun Kingdom and the-" The speaker halts, giving a double take at the letter addressed to the King. "Common wife of the Seven Princes. Lady Y/N," His voice trails off, eyes flickering back to the King who shows indifference to the word spoken.
Seeing no reactions, the servant continues. "With her comes a grand dowry of nearly five lakh elephants, two lakh noble horses, ten thousand maidservants and fifty thousand warriors of the higher status—a thousand sword, diamonds, gold jewels, a persion robe of the finest quality, — and a beautiful daughter whose beauty is compared to that of the celestial Goddess." You try hard not to laugh at the lost look of the servant who nearly skips a whole paragraph, somewhat sensing the impatience of the King.
"Seokjin, how does it feel sharing your wife with your brothers." His voice is dripping in sarcasm, as Jin stiffens at the mere thought of it turning a vivid reality.
Jin bows down, "Father. You said—
King laughs, clapping his hands in mock sympathy. "What a great son I have. Do you expect me to praise you when the people are laughing at your poor decision."
You bow down, as a sign of respect. "Your Majesty, it is not his but my decision of choosing them all. Please do not speak ill of him, the people's view is a temporary happening. It will settle as soon as the trade between the two nations bring prosperity to the land. And as far as I think, I have done a favour by marrying them."
Namjoon and Yoongi stiffen at your words, eyes scrutinizing their father who is anything but pleased.
King's trusted Advisor scoffs at your choice of words, "You could have done that by choosing one, not seven."
King hums, his eyes as cold as the Himalayas. You might as well die from the frostbite, "Explain this favour of yours."
You nod, "I have heard that the seven Princes are more likely to divide the country rather than unite them. No one wishes to rule, even Jin. The eldest wants to marry not for the nation's prosperity but to produce an heir as quickly as possible so when time comes. He could very well go back to his mistress of a servant he so endearingly calls beloved."
Jin glowers at your blatant disregard, "Who are you to say that?"
Ignoring him, you say. "And the same scenario is for Yoongi. Their mothers have already left you because of reasons I do not know. It isn't long before their minds are poisoned and this carefully crafted nation crumbles. Me choosing them is not out of love or some sympathy, it is only for our past relations. Now my King, your letter did significantly tell to give a solution for this problem and so I have merely stopped your other sons from leaving the kingdom by tying them with a bond that forces them to their duty. A little tricky solution but nonetheless effective."
Your voice halts, as your eyes flicker across the princes whose face morphs into that of a confusion and then a burning fury.
Yoongi steps in, "Oh, so that means your not gonna let us live peacefully."
"On cost of your duty, Nope."
He stomps his foot, fingers curling into iron fists but you smile at his act of defiance. Only edging him to the flames of destruction, one that you do not fear.
Jin gives you a hard look, "Already working for my father, I see."
King claps his hand, "Though your method is a little unconventional but don't you think, this will backfire. The citizens won't support this at all costs."
"But what if you show them how important my stay in here is. Maybe have a grand celebration and a dash of some story- a rumour about how our wedding is blessed by the Gods. And you have the citizens at your feet." You convey your intentions, knowing foul play was very important to get the trust and faith of the people. Their emotions ran on the King's thoughts and if he accepts then everyone will. Simple as that.
"I must say, I am impressed by your knowledge and shrewdness." King is quick to be on the boat, showering you in a string of praises and as a wedding gift you even receive the East wing palace.
"Go back and have some rest. All of you."
The court is soon dismissed, but not the Princes. They are busy arguing their father; which you don't wanna hear.
And so you depart, meeting Anika halfway through the exit.
"So, is that true. You seriously want us to trap in here, don't you?" Gone was the gentle Prince, Jin was fed up with the act. He was seething inside, so much that he wished to destroy anything and everything.
He, out of pity helped you but you didn't even deserve an ounce of it. He wants to badly take revenge, do anything to wipe that triumphant smirk off of your face. You fooled them and now dare to call his lover with such disdain. How would he now face her? What would he say? That now their forever is ruined- all because of you. A pathetic excuse of a Princess.
King gives him a pitiful look, one that only fuels his rage. "If you had taken your responsibilities seriously, you would have easily caught onto her act. Too bad, now your in too deep to escape."
All through his life, he has hated his father and wanted nothing more than to be away from here. But no, it won't happen now. The only reason he attended the self-groom choice was to have you select Namjoon or anyone except him. Heck he even made Namjoon be extra respectful towards you but no. At the end, it's him who was a fool.
"How could you be so heartless." Yoongi glares upto him, his own emotions doing no good.
"No one is superior to the crown, the throne, the people and the Kingdom. Now, it would be great if you all have a great start with your wife. Only wife." He stresses onto the end words like some warning which only fills dread into the pit of their stomach.
Warning them from the thought of having any relation out of this marriage.
It took over a month for the citizens to finally accept you. The King had threw in a grand celebration for your arrival, golds and food were distributed for free; alongside a month long festivity whose splendor was rumbling against the four walls for quite a long time.
The Palace that you had gotten as a gift was a sight to see. Your maidservants were constantly working up to keep the place sparkling clean, for you adored it very much. It gave you peace and quiet, something that you loved more than anything.
The Princes hardly visit you, except, waving happily in front of the citizens that gather for a glimpse of your extraordinary marriage.
Jin and Yoongi hate you. That much you know, and their influence is equally rubbing onto their younger brothers who are merely a puppet of the elders. Too bad, your not fazed in the slightest. What they do is none of your concern? Your happy, in peace and finally free of your parents who were literally hot on your trail for what. A marriage which is already done.
Popping another grape into your mouth, you sigh. "Anika, could you bring my shawl. It's suddenly cold in here."
You huff, trying to shield your body with the veil. Laziness has been something you often enjoy, especially now that you don't have a bickering mother and an equally taunting sisters. You love them to death but sometimes you just wish to lock them up and have some peace. Be lazy without anyone hurling insults at you.
Anika nears you, glaring at your sprawled out form. You haven't even covered your modesty, throwing the shawl on you. She sighs, "Will anyone think your a bride? Who even wears this— what are you, an old lady." Pressing onto your cotton garb, she tchs in disgust.
You pout, rolling away from her. "See, I want some—
She cuts you off rudely, "Peace, I know but this much. All day your inside the inner quarters and there, the Princes are going through so much. Do you even know, Jin got hurt today during sword fighting. You should be there, not here okay."
You roll your eyes, dropping the book you were reading. A yawn slips past your lips, even as Anika continues to scold you like your mother. "See, his lover is there to care for him. I don't see the need to waste my time when I can rest here."
Anika, snatches the book that you were gonna take. "No, get ready and out. The King will be there too so please get your act together."
"Oh, I see. You should have said that then." You sigh as a group of handsmaiden glide across the floor in anklet adorned feet, hauling you towards the inner quarters where a warm bath filled with milk and perfume oils anticipates your arrival. After bath, you were once again decked up like a bride.
A bait for the Prince who is more likely to kill you rather than heed your beauty.
Staring into the mirror, in a familiar detachment. You eye your form, even as the maids work to infuse your tresses in a smoke like perfume. Anika settles in watching your neutral expression, the maids shortly after taking your leave.
"Rainy season will arrive soon, it would be nice if some warm clothes are made for both of us." You stand up, raising an eyebrow at your companion who gives a thumbs up to your look.
Anika hauls you outside, feet padding against the silent quarters. "Please, do not say or do anything that will piss the eldest Prince."
"I won't, unless he won't."
She chews her bottom lip, looking at you with a doubtful look. It wasn't like you had to act like some good wife or some damsel in distress. You were quite content with your husbands.
Though at the start you were taken aback by how can you stop all of them from leaving. Unless, you marry them which wasn't even your idea. It was just an action you did out of pure desperation to not let your great-grandfather down. Your family had to eventually act like they were hating you. Adam would have done anything to get you, and being as stubborn as you are. If you needed protection from his advances in future, a more powerful kingdom would have to aid you.
Did your parents know about Adam? Except that he is a pure gentleman, no. Only you knew how much of a monster he was, to you he was like a creepy man awaiting to just ravish you as soon as your in his hand. Which you would have been, if you hadn't taken the letter of the 'Sun King' .
Sacrifice. It was not unheard of.
Royals had to sacrifice everything for the sake of the nation. And your family was someone who lived for the people, not for themselves. Love, relations. Everything was secondary in front of the people. Of course, it's cruel. You know that.
But as a Princess, you can't undo your responsibilities. Rather than wallowing in pain by marrying Adam, you had rather stay here. Of course, you pity the Princes who have to live like this. But it isn't like your a villian who would kill their lovers and act like some possessive wife.
Nope. Your a very nice person.
Most of the times, atleast.
Four maids trail behind you as a few guards lead you towards the eldest Prince's quarters. You didn't know what to expect, but the Prince had a different thought.
As soon as you enter, your met with the sight of the Prince heavily making out with a servant. You deem her as his lover. No sign of the King, hmm. You look back, seeing none of the maids had followed you in. Not even Anika. Great. You got fooled.
You look back at them, well here goes nothing. "Judging by your state, I think your injury is not that fatal." Your voice startles the maiden who jumps away from Jin, as if he was some kind of a traitor.
The maiden bows down to you, her shivering form not fazing you in the slightest. Your eyes follow back onto jin, his upper body wrapped in cloth. "I didn't expect you here." His voice is like thin ice, any second he might break in some crazy fit you do not wish to be a part of.
"Expectations kills, it's a sin to hope one." You smile, no joy permeating your eyes.
Jin looks away, not wishing to see you. Which is fine. Not that your dying for his attention. "You can go, I am slightly busy."
You chuckle, looking at the maiden from head to toe. She stiffens at your gaze, her tattered clothes making you pity the Prince. The Palace must have been cold enough to drive him into the arms of a servant. He reminds you of one of the stories you have read back into your father's Palace.
"Don't, I will only go." The maid speaks, even as Jin whips his head fast enough to shout at her.
"No, you won't. If anyone has to leave then it's her."
"Oh well" You give a mock laugh, leaving him to his devices. On reaching out, your met with Anika who is way too excited. "So, did you two talk?"
You smile, "Yes, he gave me a show of how to kiss your lover like a shameless fellow. And now I might have to take a holy bath."
Anika blinks, "What!"
You mirror her expression, moving away, as pangs of hunger attack you. Not that you hadn't eaten, it's just one of the random moods of your stomach that now demands something sweet. Looking at one of your maids, you speak. "I am hungry."
A maid, shuffles closer. "My Lady, we will bring whatever you need."
You look at Anika who is occupied in chatting with the other maids. You internally scoff, atleast someone is enjoying here. Unlike you, who literally has no friends except her. And she is busy making new ones already. A pinch of jealousy makes your eyes glare at the unsuspecting maids, a mere slip before you gain your composure back.
"I need sweet rice pudding."
"We will have it delivered into your quarters, My lady." Saying that she departs with the maids. Leaving the guards and Anika right beside you.
"I am bored now." Crossing your arms, you look at your friend who is very well accustomed to your mood swings. Today, it seems to be at its peak.
"That happens when you rest too much." She takes a jab at you, earning a glare from you.
"I might as well go and rest. My book is waiting." At your words, Anika shakes her head violently. As if letting you back inside the palace would be a very bad idea. Atleast for her. For you, it's a great way to spend the evening.
The brewing drama between the Princes and the King was a gossip hub for the maidservants. You would get the latest news in mere seconds of it happening, and what would you do? You listen, of course.
The King doesn't even call for your presence, it's only limited to the citizens.
As for your royal duties, it's mainly done from your inner quarters. But most of the times, you have to be out only. You have to decide what food will be prepared, you have to even be there to personally check and see that the food is up to mark. Then have the tasters test them in presence of the general and then you have to see whether the cleaning of the palace has been done. Which part of the palace needs renovation and all the inner matters of the maids are to be reported to you. Which is in itself a task and so you literally do not even have time to think about your husbands.
At the start of this month only, you got a task from the King himself.
He wishes to renovate the second floor of the Palace. All the responsibilities of that task has been dumped on you, workers would soon pile in from tomorrow. Which means, you have to finalize the structure and give a thumbs up for the work to finally commence.
You won't have a good day tomorrow.
That's for sure.
As soon as you will be free from your duties, you will jump inside your bed and take a long rest. Yup, that's the plan.
"We are going to the gardens, no ifs and no buts." Anika presses, pulling you into the opposite direction.
You let her stubborn ass drag you into a much open area, the maids passing through giving you a respectful nod. Even the guards hold their weapons down, giving you a bow. It was customary, your status being no less than that of the Princes. It only made you be more careful, amidst so many eyes. Some mishap is bound to happen.
"My Lady," The gardener hurries as soon as he sees you, "-are you here to enjoy the gardens."
You look at Anika, nodding. "Yes, a walk might be good."
The Gardener nods as he calls some of his assistants to assist you, defending his views by saying that they would make sure you don't get lost. Even though you wish to be left to your own devices, the excited old man would hardly hear it. And you do not wish to come off rude so you let him do what he thinks best.
Walking alongside Anika, you listen to the two men explain the different flowers and of course, their favourite ones. "This one here, blooms once every twelve years. They are mostly found in the western ghats of Southern India."
"Wow, I wish to see it bloom then." Anika claps her hand, bending over to take a better look at the flower.
You look around, sighing when you see a few guards not so far from here. Can't you be alone and in peace for some time. Rolling your eyes, you know it's of no use. It's their responsibility to look after you but seeing the way they maintain their distance and yet follow you has your mind come up with mischievous ideas.
One that would surely be not good for your image as a Queen.
But as a Princess, it's a different matter altogether.
Looking over at Anika, you smile. Sensing your gaze, she turns to you but is taken aback by the look on your face. She knows your up to no good, after living with you for so many years. She can very well understand that devil mind of yours.
"Excuse us, Gentlemen." Taking her hand, you dash straight ahead.
You laugh when you hear the hurried footsteps of the guards. The breeze caresses your tresses, even as you sped up. Body heating up at the task, considering the hefty weight of your dress being an added misery on your part. But did that stop you from running, nope.
Anika barely tries to not fall flat on the ground, even as you tug her to hurry up. "If I fell, I am gonna kill you."
"We will see," Your voice is heavy, face reddening at the constant laugh that slips past your lips.
"Think of this as our play, we have to hide." You tell her, as the familiar scene of your childhood self's laughter echoes through, bouncing off the air as your mother runs behind you.
A trail of maids following her, climbing the stairs you push yourself inside the first room you see.
"Oh yea-h" Anika is breathing heavily, and she is quick to slump down on the ground while you make sure the door is closed from inside.
"It is tiresome to see them." You slip past her, looking across the paintings that litter the high walls of the room.
Anika huffs, "Your the future Queen. What do you expect?"
You chuckle, face turning serious. "Do you think Jin will spare me after he becomes King, stop being delusional honey."
You still recall his eyes. His anger. Hidden beneath those gentle behaviour, was a revengeful man awaiting his turn. Nothing can guarantee your safety, even you being such an important bridge to the light kingdom will certainly not qualm his heart of all those bitter feelings. Who knows how he might kill you? Poison so that he can lie and cover up your murder.
Your mind comes up with countless ways of him killing you off- but does that faze you. Nope it doesn't.
Instead, you can't wait for what is to unfold in the near future.
"He can't just do anything to you. Your father won't let him." Anika fumes, as if the mere thought of you getting hurt was unimaginable.
"A man in love is certainly dangerous," You click your tongue, detaching the thought of that man deemed as your fate.
Love. A beautiful feeling. Like a fairytale it graces the heart with sugary delights, where the possessed is a madman wishing on the heavens. How do you know that? Well, you are a sucker for romance. Be it forbidden love or angsty one-sided romance. You have read everything, and still bringing in more books to finish and make your evening filled with imaginary love.
If in your hands, reality would have perished ages ago.
"Friend, when will you get your happily after?" She asks, even as you turn around with a laugh.
As if the mere idea was a joke in itself.
"Royals don't expect love, we expect our nation's welfare. At the end of the day, lovers are always seperated and in your destiny, comes a man of another women. I bet, half of the stupid peoples would already be giving promises of a lifetime. To someone who they wouldn't even end up with. I had rather grow old with you. Doesn't that sound like a fairytale now?"
You take your friend's hand, squeezing it with an excited squeal.
Anika rolls her eyes, even if her cheeks flushed at the loving words. "It does but still—
"Uff, you and your doubt. Couples are overrated. Friendship isn't but see, we have been together for what—14 years and still going strong. I love my bestfriend so much. I will die for you." You pull her cheeks, squishing it as her lips form a pout by the excessive massage.
Anika. Your childhood friend. At a tender age of five, you two became inseparable. Her mother was the head maid, a dear friend and a trusted companion of your mother. So it was only fair for you two to hit it off.
She pushes you away, caressing her cheeks with a pout. "Don't touch my face,"
You cross your arms, "Drama queen."
"Says the one who is the literal form of it."
You both chuckle, bickering back and forth. Even as the guards gather outside, certainly hearing your loud laughs.
Yoongi sighs, rubbing his eyes to take a look at the new reports. Looking outside, he sees the sun beginning to set in. Nowadays he is mostly confined to the library. Looking over the kingdom's past reports and the land disputes was a task in itself.
As soon as he is finished with the pile of books, the guard brings in another. It's never ending, and it frustrates him to no end. Their father is going all berserk on them, Jin is pushed to learn all the warrior skills with Namjoon. While he and Hoseok are given the task of reports. Mostly him cause Hoseok's work is to check on the grains that the kingdom receives from the citizens. And of course, the amount of money going out of the palace.
Even his spending has been cut off, all because of that Princess.
"Brother, are you free?" A knock had him look up, watching as Jungkook enters inside.
"What is it?" He groans, stretching his hands to make sure he doesn't have to take a walk for his health now.
"Father says to have dinner together. He also wants to discuss something important," Jungkook chews his lips, even as Yoongi frowns at the request.
That means, he have to see you. No way.
"I don't wanna go. I am busy," He hopes that excuse will work but no, looks like his brother is also a stubborn man.
"You go and say this to father then. Why should I get the scolding for that?" Jungkook huffs, turning away and leaving.
Yoongi sighs, knowing that his father won't listen. And so it would only be nice to go and save the trouble of getting more tasks from that old man.
Night befalls onto the Palace with a blanket of stars, the moon shimmers across the ground. Lightning the earth with a soft glow. For you, night means a peaceful walk along the lake but no, as a married women. This means to walk around the royal kitchen.
"Add salt to the cauldron, and you. Stir the vegetables well," You pass through, watching as the maids settle the plates.
Today the royal family was gonna dine together. Which was, for you a task. Cause well, you have to again see the father-son duo who can hardly go by without fighting. If they want to fight, then fight. Why bring you in between? You pout at the thought, from the corner of the eyes. You see Anika nodding at the tasters who are busy tasting the food prepared.
It wasn't long before your getting followed to the main hall, the maids busying themselves over decorating the table. While you stand here and watch the preparation, Anika being just beside you.
As soon as the table is set, the King enters alongside his most trusted advisor. "Your Majesty- " giving a curt bow, you smile when he takes his seat. Momentarily acknowledging your presence with a nod, as he goes back to talking with his advisor.
"This year, we can only hope for the rain to be adequate for the crops. If it isn't then the tax relief will eventually come into force, what do you think?" The King looks at the lanky-aged man who hums at the thought.
"Your Majesty, it would be a nice idea." He nods, looking at you who listens to their talk with keen interest.
"My lady, I have heard a lot about you. It's a pleasure to meet you," His grin throws you off, even as you give a curt nod to him.
Soon, Jin enters followed by the other Princes who take their seats. Your the last one to take a seat, beside Jungkook who doesn't even look at you. Instead, he engages in talking with taehyung who heartily entertains him. On your side, sits Hoseok who gives you a neutral look, one that you avoid.
It looks as if your in the middle of a war. One slip and your head will be next.
Complete silence falls over the dining table, apart from the occasional clatter of the glasses. You chewed as softly as you can, making sure to avoid the guys. "So," at the noise of the King clearing his throat, you look up— "The renovation of the second floor of the Sun Palace will start soon. I am thinking that it would be best if you and your wife start your married life at the earliest. Why don't you all stay together, it would help you bond and even have this kingdom blessed by an heir."
You choke on your food, coughing as you force yourself to calm down. Sipping the water, you blink back the tears that came as the consequences of the shock. When did this old man even got the idea of this? Living with seven, and produce an heir. Her body shivers at the thought, screaming at their stupid plan.
Namjoon looks at you with a glare, as the King speaks. "Are you okay, daughter?"
You nod, "What's the hurry, your Majesty? Bonding takes time, why not have some short trips or even dates." You suggest, not wishing to even think about staying inside with not one. But seven.
They can easily overpower you, and judging by how much glare your recieving from them. Your sure, you won't survive even the first night.
"Hmm, what do you think I should do then? You all look more like strangers than a married couple."
Your eyebrows twitch. What is the motive of the King speeding up this process. It's not like you can go and read his mind or something. And living with seven is a nope. "How about one at a time. I can stay with one Prince over a period of three months."
Jimin nods at your words, even if he is looking towards his father.
King smiles, "Okay, you can start with Jin. He will now live in your inner quarters, away from any kind of distractions." His words carry a double meaning, and your immediate to know that he is referring to Jin's lover. A silent aggreement of no arguments.
Three months.
God knows what will happen.

Amidst the sprawling dessert of Nikhali, you stood just across the beautiful Palace of illusions.
Decked up in red and a sparkling gold, resplendent like the sun that grinned coyly at you. Rays shimmered and drums rolled, pumping the hearts with a vigor; for unruly was this event of a lifetime.
One by one, passing through the line of the prosperous Kings lined up for the swayamvara. You refused to indulge anyone, seduction being an art you do not condon.
"Admired by the Kings, and yet the celestial beauty refuses to much less glance their way." Your maid-in-waiting ushers you to the next suitor, causing a slow ripel to the silence.
Swayamvara, a self-selection event where royal women get to choose and the men, compete to win her heart. May it be fighting or using wisdom to woo the heart of the lady. You, the Princess of the Kingdom of light are very much into the prime of her youth.
Entering the age of nineteen did open the doors of marriage proposals from all around the corners of the world.
You smile, eyeing the man that glimmers in rubies. Moving away, you speak "Beauty causes wars, it's a curse to be one."
"It's not when history pens you in golden words," The maid steps close, as the next Prince, who, by his nervous composure fails to amuse you.
It was boring, mind calculating at milliseconds, weighing the options being hard when all men had something that entices you "It looks as if he is more scared than the bride here."
Your maid's chuckle, entertaining the thought. "Earlier, he fell into the pond. Poor Prince."
You smile, the illusionary palace was crafted in mysterious ways. In avoiding the crystal clear water, he might have trudged along the other path. The carefully selected carpet made him a fool, beneath it being the pond made in jest to see whether the suitors were prepared or not.
"Stop laughing in his misery, the poor guy is already scared." You hush the onslaught of taunts, strewn across his neck like a chain of iron.
Behind you, the arena grumbled with the war cry of the two Kings. A sight for the citizens, the constant collision of swords now being a graveyard for the ones who watched in bated breath. Across the high stairs, stood your family. Regal and composed, eyeing every minuscule change in perfect serenity.
"I have personally crafted this piece, may the Princess accept it and let it be a part of her glory." Adam holds a sparkling necklace that makes you laugh in dirge.
You eye the piece, somewhere knowing its a trap. The sooner your skin touches it, the closer he will be to winning. "We will see,"
You move ahead, as a figure towers you. Not being fazed, you look up. Gaze falling on his gold robes, a perfect V line further elaborating the well-defined chest that swoons a lady with his power. He was pure muscle, giving off an aura that subdued your coldness to the point of melting.
"Lady," His tongue rolls, like a music wrapped in velvet. "A pleasure to meet you."
You nod to the Prince who gives a respectful bow, letting his knees touch the ground which is unusual for the customs of inequality frowning upon the obvious attempt. A man's ego is too vast to be anywhere below its counterpart. "Who is he?"
You whisper, not looking anywhere but him.
"The elder Prince of the Sun Kingdom. Kim Namjoon." You nod, squinting your eyes, only to quickly get back to your defiant look.
Namjoon gives you a sweet smile, his dimples enhancing his overall persona. What an absolute treat to the eyes.
"Don't you think by going down you have disrespected the rules of the society?" Your voice is cold, with no hint of amusement flickering in your eyes. In all seriousness, the tense atmosphere has now driven close. The arena behind you was silent, as the change of attention brought you to the centre.
Namjoon gets up, not reacting to your accusing tone, instead, he smiles. "To weigh respect based on gender is not something I believe in."
"So by bowing down, you accept my superiority?"
He shakes his head, "To respect a lady is not a show of superiority but a humble attempt to let you and the people know that you are not a trophy to be won." His words made you laugh, what a wise choice.
Your heart might be moved but it was the mind that resembles a creature on the hunt.
"Sweet words but not all clouds that thunder rains," You give him a clipped smile, moving to the next man.
If the previous one was handsome, the next one was no less than a beauty incarnate. The perfect proportion of his eyes and the plump lips could have deprived you of composure, if not for the crowd watching your move like a hawk.
"Prince Jin, Firstborn and the next King of the Sun Kingdom." You purse your lips, eyeing the man that tucks his head down in a curt manner.
Accepting his greetings, you eye his purple robes of exquisite royalty. "Do you think women's job is to only be in the kitchen and give birth to a boy?"
Jin purses his lips as if taking a moment to grasp the words. "No, not only she is to be present in every offering to the Gods but she also has a right to be a part of her husband's decision and also be the one who guides him and his family to greater heights of prosperity."
You hum, pinning him in a conspicuous look of swirling mirth.
Strength, Knowledge, Beauty, wisdom, discipline, truth, sympathy and an innate aura to be impartial in decision-making and be calm in face of the most troubling thoughts were what you were looking for. The number of times your family has called you out on the delusional traits, saying you were asking for too much was exhausting.
But a woman is allowed to dream, to hope and channel her expectations on the future.
One decision changes it all.
"So do you know cooking?" To which, Jin nods. Surprising you a little, but, you hold your ground.
You pass along, as the maid hurries to match your steps. "Jin is perfect, or might I add all the Princes of the Sun are?"
Gingerly, you tuck the tendrils of your jasmine-perfumed hair spun in a braid of ornamental decorations behind your ear. The sudden move inciting your ringlets of bangles to drop across your porcelain skin in chaotic madness. While a certain sunshine rains on you. Smiling brightly at your presence, he takes your hand. Planting a chaste kiss, you shiver. "Hoseok. Third Prince of the-
"Sun Kingdom." You complete, even though they all are brothers. Their acts and their actions were different, if not melodic to the ears.
He nods, in no hurry to let your hand go. "Your hands are cold." Squeezing your hand, he acts as if transferring the warmth straight to your heart.
It was if the questions that were ready to be bombarded on him was all in all lost into his crystal clear eyes. You blush, feeling shy at his care that had your heart speed up.
You hum, smiling at him as you pass to the next suitor.
Oh My.
"Don't you think sitting in front of the Princess is rude?" Your maid chides the man who sits on his allotted throne, taking a look at you, he hums as if approving you.
You stifle your need to roll your eyes, "Even the Sun Kingdom has its version of the solar eclipse." You mutter, as your maid chuckles at your choice of words.
"No, more like the icy mountains of the Himalayas. He is cold."
You nod, eyeing the man that groans. And stands up, once he concludes that you're not going away. Not until he starts talking.
"Nice to meet you, Princess." He speaks, voice strained in what you called reluctance.
His pale skin stood in constant battle with his very cold and calculating eyes of his. Like two globs of the ocean, representing the Marianna trench. Who knows what's beneath the darkened waters? Blessed with beauty, all are but looks could be deceiving.
"Name?" You ask him, as he replies with a flat tone. "Yoongi," you call as if testing the essence.
Yoongi blinks, annoyed as you stand. Eyes raking over his form, taking your own sweet time. "Do you think a man should be loyal to only one woman?"
"It's his choice but If you want my answer, then yes I am a one-woman man." Yoongi grins, seeing right through your jumble of words.
"Royal men see marriage as a political alliance, so can that be true in the case of royal women?"
Yoongi takes a moment to reply. "It's her choice, who am I judge?
You click your tongue, moving along as your maid huffs as if not pleased by the whole ordeal. "Why the long face, Anika?"
She groans, "All options are delectable, how are you holding?"
You smile, knowing where she is getting at. Frankly, you're like any woman. Weak for the handsome men that filled your palace grounds. You even would have given your heart a thousand times over, if not for seeing what lies under. Intentions, Kingdom and alliance- all are to be taken into consideration and as a woman, you want someone who will bring this to the table and deem you as an equal.
Not to mention the sidelong glances of the Princes whose lust overpowers their logic was now getting hard to reject.
"Let's not go there," You take a deep breath, gathering the expensive fabric of your dress, adorned and embroidered extensively in golden pleats of coils, as you steal some of its zeal to reduce the qualm presided by the event.
Opposite you, a man of innocent beauty chuckles. "At your service, Princess."
His voice was laced with flirt, picking or not was a choice but who were you to deny? "Jimin. Sun Kingdom," Your maid cuts in short, too tired of dragging the same sentence over and out.
You smile, lips pursed apologetically "Do you have any mistress?"
The bold statement, had the maid gasp beside you. Deeming it too early for something like that, which you ignore. Brushing the glance with a tight-lipped smile.
Jimin drags the silence, painfully slow. Biting his lips, your eyes wander to the same before quickly taking his eyes that flicker in amorous delight. "Have. Are you sad, perhaps jealous?"
You scoff at his choice of words, "A Mistress is a whore, a Queen is equal."
Passing through him, you fail to notice his eyes that darken at the sight of your dress that hugged your body in all the right places. If sin had a human name, then that would be you. Jimin chuckles. Your answer has caught him with an innate desire to have you.
Your answer was clear, there was no comparison between a mistress and a Queen.
The evening sun drags out, as the servants head in to distribute the suitors and the on-lookers with much-needed relief- a drink, some fruits and a sweetened dish. The Kings are awaiting, the Princes are sparring- mace, sword, arrow and bow being constantly asked for.
"How many are remaining?" You heave a sigh, looking behind to catch a wink from the King who had defeated the neighbourhood Prince in a match.
His body was sleek in sweat, muscles rippling as he showcased his strength. Eyes boring into you, snapping your attention back. You groan, how much more you have to tolerate. "Just two more, Taehyung and Jungkook of the Sun Kingdom."
You hum, going towards the said name.
He was breathtaking, his face as if carved by the Gods himself. Taking your hand, he plants a kiss on it and you swear, you swooned. His gaze was trapping you like a sail stuck in an ocean. "Prince Taehyung?"
He nods, his lips ghosting your flesh as he takes a step back. "A pleasure to meet you, My lady."
You nod, attention dragging towards his robes. How will it be to undress him?
Shaking your head, you ask. "So, are you here for a political alliance?"
Taehyung chuckles, "It's nowhere as important as you,"
Oh, he has a great way with words.
Your mind hums, as your heart drums. You nod, taking your leave as the next man comes into your view.
"Jungkook. Youngest of all the seven," Your maid speaks, a little louder, as the man nods in agreement.
"Nice to meet you, Princess." He bows ninety degrees, as you nod at him.
"Do you think satisfying a man in bed is only a women's task?" His face flushes, as your maid gasps at your question. Doing a retake to check whether her ears are ringing or not. But seeing Jungkook's red cheeks, she knew you were the culprit.
Getting over his obvious shock, Jungkook stares at you. "Satisfying you won't be a task, My lady. Trust me."
Now it was your turn to look at him, seemingly taken aback by his words.
Your maid laughs out loud, as you brush her off. Going away from the seven princes who seemingly watch your swan-like gait in part lust and part want.
If your parents thought you were done with your choice, then they were in for a surprise. You made a list of your desired Prince- a long one at that and made them fight among themselves. It was a sight to behold, the war cry clashing like thunder awaiting a doom-like rainstorm.
They fought, hither and thither. Left and right, defending and attacking.
At the end, they gave up. Letting the winners step up.
Your father smiles, "The remaining seven could fight among themselves, we want one winner."
Seated on the lush throne, you listened to all the gossip your mother shared with your sisters, if not that, the servants weren't much keen on the fight. Their attention was rather on the latest rumour flying across the palace.
Jin wipes the sweat off of his forehead, "Sorry, My King. But I won't raise a sword on my brothers."
You raise an eyebrow, as your father chuckles. "And why is that?"
For this, Namjoon steps up. "As a brother, my responsibility is to protect them. Not put them in harm in any way, I may be a warrior but I do draw lines when necessary. My morals won't allow it."
When all the seven princes had the same say, your father glanced at you.
Telling you to choose, right now.
Standing, you briskly walk up to him. "I choose all of them."
You watch as all the seven princes' eyes widen at your choice. The traits that you're looking for in your husband are present in all of them, if not one. So why not have all of them? But the question is if they refuse then you have to turn up and choose Adam. Other than the Sun Kingdom, if any other King is worthy of an alliance from the Light Kingdom then it's him.
Your parents have made sure you remember his face.
"If they agree, this alliance is fixed. If they don't, then they can very well go back to their Kingdom." You further elaborate, as your gaze sharpens in like to a hilt of a sword in quest of flesh, even as you gingerly tuck your veil in act of newlyweds.
While the whole arena falls into a deadly silence.
