catra is such a fun female character because she falls into every box ever. she’s a cool villain because she finds a way to knock down every horrible man in power of abusive system a peg, kicks her abuser(s) asses and is generally cunning and extremely smart during her time being evil, while being the protagonist’s love interest and narrative foil to an extent, she’s a character that’s secretly a sweetheart but hardened from trauma, and is also a Pathetic Loser because she spends her entire life pining over the same girl (and obsessing over her during their enemies phase) who very obviously likes her back but still has a dramatic period piece esque scene saying “she doesn’t want me, not like I want her”

MORE ARCANE THOUGHTS

one of the things that hits me about Arcane is how much Jinx and Vi love each other. Like you can FEEL IT.

Vi has been raising her since she was ten (how old is she when their parents die? Does anyone know?). To me it always feels like a mother-daughter relationship more so than a sisterly relationship. And that’s why she just can’t let her go. She can’t move on because yeah it’s her sister but it’s also her kid her BABY.

And it’s the same with Jinx. She doesn’t even remember their mom most likely. She remembers Vi. She remembers her pep talks and her rough but gentle hands. For all intents and purposes, that’s her mom. And that makes her “rejection” (it’s not really rejection but yk Jinx’s perspective) burn so much worse. And it’s the way Vi’s absence is echoed in every crevice of her being. Her scribbles at the edge of the screen spell Vi, her leather chokers spell Vi, and she even adds pink to her whole color scheme because it was Vi’s color. AND WHEN THEY ARE REUNITED AND JINX ASKS IF SHE IS REAL IMPLYING SHE HAS DREAMED THIS BEFORE OH GOD. And for their whole reunion she’s just a child again. She forgets her violence and anger and hatred and she just cries in her arms, so happy to have her sister (read: mom) back.

Too bad it doesn’t last.

Scenario for how this started: Cait took photos of Jinx and Vi started captioning them with the most basic homophobic statements she could find in a Demacian household. Then they sent those to their gc that happens to include Jayce, and naturally he put screenshots of the memes on Runeterra's twitter. It blows up overnight.

If no one was calling her a jinx Powder probably would’ve renamed herself Power
