a lil thing i drew based on my headcanon, that kwamis partner with humans bcus they crave the emotion and physicality of the human experience, and get to feel their wielder’s emotions through the transformations 🧐 

Do you have a headcanon for why the Wu went dormant and started awakening when Wuya got out? Did Dashi set them up like that? Or was it maybe tied to the seal on the box? Or did they explain it in the show and I forgot?

As for why the Wu went dormant, I think that Dashi probably did something to put them all into kind of a hibernative state when he hid them all around the world. Hiding mystic artifacts doesn't do much unless you can tamper down their magic. So it's likely he did something to force them into dormancy to keep them from causing any mischief where he hid them, and to keep anyone with any magic proclivities from recognizing what they are or hunting them down while they're still inactive. But to keep them all from awakening at once if anything happened to one of them, he may have set up some safeguards so that they didn't burst out all at once if anything in his system went off. Checks and balances sort of. Which is why more than one Wu awakening at once is such a rare occurrence.

I rewatched the very first episode to see if there was any hints to the latter point. It's mentioned that when Wuya got out that "a chill fell upon the land" and that something "unbalanced" the Shen Gong Wu.

Mind, this is season 1 before anything was done to Wuya besides the fact that she's a ghost. So it's possible that when Dashi sealed her the first time, aside from taking away her physical body he didn't do anything to tamper down her powers.

Were I to guess, because Wuya was able to immediately take over the world when she got her body back, she exerted quite a level of influence over the planet back in her heyday. Especially with her level of magic.

So it may be that unsealing the puzzle box the first time (especially the first time in 1500+ years, let out sort of a "breath" of her power that had once held the land in an iron fist. And that reappearance sent sort of a silent wave of magic out that could be felt only by those who had magical inclination. Which then started a domino effect and began their awakening one by one.

That's my guess anyway.
