NTM why would GRRM give the Winter Rose Stark Maiden Tully features when the Tully traits/phenotype wasn't even introduced yet to the Stark family gene pool until Catelyn married into House Stark and had children,Robb,Sansa,Arya,Rickon and Bran with Ned.The Starks didn't have any blood ties to the Tullys back before until then.NTM why wouldn't GRRM just give the Winter Rose,daughter of a Stark Lord,the Warden of the North,the Stark features since he already made it clear in the books that the Bael the Bard + the Winter Rose and Rhaegar + Lyanna stories and relationships are mirrors with the parallels they share.So obviously the Winter Rose,Lyanna,and Arya resemble each other considering they all share intentional parallels and have Stark features,NTM GRRM's original outline of Jonrya.

When we look at Justin Sweet's other drawings, we see that The Winter Rose looks like Arya and Lyanna.

I would like to remind you that these drawings were selected by GRRM. So The Winter Rose doesn't have red hair. The Winter Rose has nothing to do with Sansa and Catelyn.

It's already been mentioned that in general Jon Snow is more attracted to personality rather than appearance and if I had to pinpoint to what those specific character traits are I would say that it's an independent nature, being a rule breaker and general proactiveness in getting things done.

Ygritte embodied what Jon loved about the Freefolk - a freedom of sorts from Westerosi biases, societal rules and laws. His journey with the Freefolk changes his long held opinions of them and parallels his love for Ygritte. Ygritte is honest and open about her desires, values her independence and often times it is Ygritte who defends and protects Jon Snow.

And though he does not know or love Val as much as he does Ygritte, it's their similar independent nature and not being beholden to others that he again finds attractive.

All the same, the wildling princess was not beloved of her gaolers. She scorned them all as "kneelers," and had thrice attempted to escape. When one man-at-arms grew careless in her presence she had snatched his dagger from its sheath and stabbed him in the neck. Another inch to the left and he might have died. Or when she partners with Jon to help him with Selyse Baratheon - a Westerosi Queen that he is wholly unimpressed with and wants gone from the Wall as soon as possible.

And then there is Alys Karstark and the flirty vibes between Jon and her. There is certainly admiration there for Alys on Jon's behalf. Alys who gets on a horse in the harshest of winter, nearly dying trying to reach the Wall and yet doing so in the belief that the son of Ned Stark will help her. Alys who probably grew up hearing stories and songs of the evil Wildlings who rape and pillage and yet agrees to marry one to protect her own inheritance and rightful claim to house Karstark.

Jon turned to Alys Karstark. “My lady. Are you ready?” “Yes. Oh, yes.” “You’re not scared?” The girl smiled in a way that reminded Jon so much of his little sister that it almost broke his heart. “Let him be scared of me.”The snowflakes were melting on her cheeks, but her hair was wrapped in a swirl of lace that Satin had found somewhere, and the snow had begun to collect there, giving her a frosty crown. Her cheeks were flushed and red, and her eyes sparkled. “Winter’s lady.” Jon squeezed her hand. - Jon, ADwD

We as readers and characters like Jon Snow understand that the Freefolk are just like the other denizens of Westeros - good and bad - and yet there's just so much bigotry against them, especially in the North. So Alys - who has never even met one of the Freefolk - entering into a marriage alliance with the Magnar of Thenns is indeed momentous and extremely brave. It has similarities to Dany's marriage with Hizdahr to sue for peace for her people, to bring about an end to the insurgency by the slavers.

So while Jon can be protective towards the characters he cares about - Arya, Sam, Satin - he also really loves that independent streak in the girls he is attracted towards.

Which is why I am really excited for Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen meeting in the books. Even though they have not met yet, I can just sense that palpable chemistry between these two characters based on their personalities. Close in age and maturity, these are two young leaders with a can do attitude, keenly interested in reform and rebuilding a new world. And yeah, Daenerys is really beautiful and yet IMO Jon Snow is going to fall for her personality, regardless of her appearance and not because of it.

And I think that's key considering GRRM's themes of beauty being skin deep and what's important is who we are and not how good looking we are. And despite Jon and Dany not meeting yet, he's laid the groundwork for them getting along like a house of 🔥

The closest show!Dany ever was to the canon counterpart in the books is at some point in Season 1 when Dumb and Dumber twisted and framed her disassociation from her cruel,abusive brother Viserys' provoking Khal Drogo to kill him so antis could perceive her as "detached and the beginning signs of consistent red flags of her inevitable descent into madness" marking the beginning of the divergence in the character that blackwashed her;Not to mention D&D's misogynistic framing of the scene in which Drogo declares to help Dany reclaim the Iron Throne and the Seven Kingdoms with his khalasar as Dany being sexually aroused by his vow when she worries about the consequences of the Dothraki invading Westeros considering their gruesome pillaging and rape of innocent civilians (which is the norm for the Dothraki until Dany forbade it as the new leader) in the aftermath of his battle with Mago if I remember correctly and another khalasar in the books.

Maybe possibly controversial opinion but while Dany was definitely treated the worst in the adaptation, I don't think she was actually adapted the worst. Not in the earlier seasons at least.

I'm not saying she was adapted well even in those early seasons. Far from it. But she was adapted more accurately than Jon and Arya. Because they are honestly unrecognizable. I binged seasons 1-6 before reading the books and I honestly found them a little boring/too conventionally written. And then I pick up the books and it's like, "What? These two are amazing!"

This is why people don’t take your cry of “Misogyny!” seriously bc you cant even step away long enough to realize that if you really care about the message this story has to make about feminism, you would care about Sansa Stark as well.

She was scheming against Dany before she even met her, the moment Petyr laid the seeds of chaos, Sansa made sure she saw the harvest – Sansa told Daenerys to her face that “women manipulate men blah blah blah“ – so fuck off with your fake feminism.

Blood Purity and the ASOIAF Fandom

I find it very ironic how Targaryen antis scream about "blood purity" then turn around and support and play into blood purity themselves. Specifically I'm talking about Stark stans and stansas/jonsas.

The Starks canonically prefer to marry with Northern houses, in other words: other First Men. This tradition gives them a rather small gene pool, meaning that incest is pretty much a necessity for them to carry it on. Uncle-niece, aunt-nephew, and cousin weddings were all allowable, and cousin weddings were rather commonplace.

What all that means is that the Starks practice blood purity. Yes, it's different from how the Targaryens did it, but the only differences are that the Valyrians allowed brother-sister marriages and there are only two other Valyrian houses to marry. The Celtigars barely even count, due to how little Valyrian blood is left in them. Both the Starks and Targaryens did marry outside their preferred gene pools. However, that fact doesn't negate that they both practice blood purity.

Stark stans who condemn the Targaryens for marrying to preserve their Valyrian blood are hypocrites. The Starks prefer to marry other First Men and allow certain forms of close incest, if they had as few options as the Targaryens did, they would probably change their views on brother-sister marriages.

Stansas tend to follow the same patterns as Stark stans. They ignore Stark incest and talk about "super special Stark genes" in an almost cult-like fashion. Stansas will go on and on about how the Starks are very special and their (specifically Sansa's) blood is the key to saving the world. Now, there is magic blood in ASOIAF, and the Starks are the one of the families with this. However, the sheer hypocrisy of Stansas and Stark stans to embrace and cheer on this fact for the Starks while simultaneously despising the Targaryens for the same fact is interesting.

Jonsas, who are all stansas just to be clear, are probably the most hypocritical in this group. Jonsa shippers will espouse both anti-incest and anti-blood purity arguments, especially in regards to the Targaryens. However, at the same time, they will write posts about how the incest between Jon and Sansa wouldn't be wrong and how Stark blood is superior. Just like the Stark stans and stansas, they are unironically supporting Stark blood purity. All three of these groups will also write about how the Targaryen bloodline needs to be wiped out.

So basically: Stark stans, stansas, and jonsas all not only support Stark blood purity, but also the eradication of Valyrian blood in Westeros. The hypocrisy is riveting.
