Soo, Eris And Drifter. I See Them As The Perfect Power Couple, And I Figured I'd Make A Post On Why I
Soo, Eris and Drifter. I see them as the perfect power couple, and I figured I'd make a post on why I ship these two so powerfully and what I believe to be evidence of them being more than just friends.
Let's dive in.
1. For starters, their constant flirting;
The Drifter: Ooh! I like listenin' to you talk.
Eris Morn: And I enjoy your silence.
The Drifter: You talk a big game about how much I irritate you, but you keep callin'.
Eris Morn: Watch yourself, Rat.
The Drifter: You know I always do.
and ofc, the Drifter attempting to get Eris to eat dinner with him throughout the Eidolon Pursuant lore ;)
2. The slow growth between Eris and Drifter that is not seen between either of them with any other character.
3. Eris, a person who has made it clear by idle voice lines that she is not fond of physical touch, has touched the Drifter/allowed him to touch her. She has even allowed the Drifter to hug her, and has willingly took his hand :')
4. The Drifter, a man whose trust in others had been broken, is finally beginning to trust in someone again, even enough to tell her about his past.
"That's not my name," he said at last.
"That is what you let them call you."
It was a small link to his past. A link to a life he had picked for himself. He nodded slowly, holding her gaze. He would let her call him that too.
5. They have both experienced their own traumas, and in turn they are able to relate with one another on a level that others can't.
6. The Drifter calling Eris 'Moonlight', I believe, shows how Eris has become the light of life, his reason to hope in the future.
7. Where once the Drifter had planned to run out of the system at the first sign of danger, he has now decided to stay, because of Eris.
"So this is where you wish to be," she said cautiously. "At the end of all things?"
"Nowhere else."
"No more schemes to leave Sol?"
He was quiet for a moment, then shook his head, smirking. "Nah," he said, and looked into her eyes. "I'd miss the moonlight."
And these are just a few examples of them, their depth, and how they interact with one another in ways that they don't interact with other's, pointing to something more between them.
If y'all have anything else to add, or just wanna discuss anything to do with these two, feel free to comment ;)
and remember....
"we'll live in the night if we have to. We do it for what comes after."

Art request for @aegirocassis-stan!! Thank you so much for the request... It was very fun to draw! If you (or anyone else) have any other Drifteris art requests, don't hesitate to send them on over, I always enjoy drawing these two! 😊
Hey, here's a question...
Do you think you could post all your stories in Ao3? That would be very cool but I'm not forcing you to.
What made you love this ship?
Lol oh my goodness, I've been meaning to look into Ao3 but I've been kinda busy and forgot 😅 Definitely intend to look into it, and if I start posting my stories over there, I'll post the links here too! :))
Honestly, I've asked myself that a couple times too, and I think the reason is because not only are both characters already really cool and unique by themselves, but then their relationship is also slow building and fun to watch and observe too. I've been into other ships as well, but they all ended up fading pretty fast and I stopped really caring for them... For Eris and Drifter, I started thinking they might like each other in 2021, but actually started getting into/drawing the ship in 2022 and haven't stopped since 😂
Another thing I love is that their relationship doesn't feel sped up or forced, it feels natural, to me at least. I love the way they start off bickering and being mean to each other, and then as the seasons and years go by, with each new interaction they grow a little kinder to one another.
I also love how they both have so many differences, but then they also have some things in common. Like they've both had traumatic pasts, they are both dedicated to getting their work done (Eris even once referred to the Drifter as tenacious a long while back), and they are both kinda gross and messy XD
Drifter sidled through Eris's Athenaeum, poking at her occult doodads. Many of the unidentifiable objects were covered in one type of grime or another: wax, tallow, machine grease, or blood. He shook his head with affection, amazed that someone so sharp could be so sloppy.
And I love the way they treat each other too... The Drifter respects Eris, and he doesn't treat her like she's crazy. Eris understands the Drifter's pain, and so she is occasionally very gentle with him, especially recently 🥺
But even here in season of the Haunted she is being very open, sweet, and gentle with him...
I love the dynamic and growth between them over the years, and then the fact that they are really awesome and unique characters too... plus, what can I say? They also look really cute together :3
Sorry for such a long reply, I just love these two so much 🤣 Thank you for the ask!
Hello, what's your reaction regarding Bungie and the future of Destiny 2? I mean Drifter and Eris' relationship would have been explored further if it wasn't for the poor leadership in the company. I'm kinda afraid that we won't see this two again especially their banters and growing trust that would likely lead to something romantic😔
I've definitely been nervous about the possibility of Bungie leaving them behind/not growing their characters relationship into something romantic... But I mean, one good sign is the fact that there keeps being new lore between them every season for the last few seasons, not counting the current one.
We had Eris helping the Drifter in IV. Tether during the season of the Deep, we had Drifter being there for Eris during season of the Witch, we had them hugging (giggles giddily) in season of the Wish... and then when Into the Light came out we got an adorable little piece of a phone call Eris was having with the Drifter 🥺And then we got a sweet lil piece of lore between them in the Final Shape... I'm really really hoping this is a good sign that we'll keep getting more of them... But like you pointed out, Bungie's leadership has been pretty poor.
These two are my comfort ship, they are who I dream of and they are who bring me joy, and I'm sure there's more people who also feel the same. So we all gotta stick together and keep showing our love of these two beautiful silly characters, so if Bungie even considers dropping them, they'll see that that would be a poor decision because of how much love they are getting from the community 🥺🙏
God willing, their lore will keep on coming, and their relationship keep on growing... cause even if Bungie doesn't give us a really cool cutscene one day when Eris and Drifter's relationship has gown enough, where Eris and Drifter... maybe... share a lil kissy ;)), Bungie needs to at least give us a sweet piece of lore where they have their first kiss!!
So yeah, I'm a lil nervous, but I still have a lotta hope, and I can't wait for the next Eris and Drifter interaction!!!
Note: I just remembered that cutscene in the Final Shape, the one where Drifter spins his gun then it pans out and you can see Eris just staring at him (maybe even smiling a little? I can't tell), this also brings me hope... Cause the only reason she, Eris Morn, the one so focused on getting the work done and protecting humanity, would be staring at someone else... Is cause she is head over heels in love with that person 😍Eeek!! hopefully Bungie will continue to give us more of these two!

I hope y'all will proud of me for this work of art
Forgiveness
The Drifter let out a raspy chuckle as he leaned against an old rusty railing, sorrow glinting in his grey eyes.
"What is wrong, Germaine?" Eris asked, turning to face him better.
They stood together on an old stone bridge in the wilderness of the EDZ. It had once likely been part of a nice walking park hundreds of years ago, but now the bridge was dilapidated and falling apart, though it still held strong enough to carry Eris Morn and the Drifter's weight above the shallow stream that flowed underneath. Smooth, round pebbles were nestled together at the bottom of the water, shining in the warbling reflection of the sun, which slowly sank beneath the horizon.
"I come out here sometimes, helps me think." Said the Drifter heaving a sigh as he swiped a small rock off the railing. "I've caused some people a lotta pain... You already know 'bout most of what I've done... how I gave some people final deaths." he brought his arm behind him, before jerking it forward again and flinging the rock into the stream, causing a ripple in the waters flowing surface.
Eris watched the water fall back into the stream just as quickly as it had shot up. She remained silent, waiting for the Drifter to continue.
"I wasn't always in my right mind... kinda started losing it after a while- which isn't an excuse. I still did what I did, even when I shouldn't of." He sighed again. "I 'spose I just wish I could fix things. Wish I could bring back all the people I hurt... the people whose blood are on my hands. But I know I can't. Some days it's harder to put in the back of my mind than others... hard to forget what I've done and just start over when I don't even know if they've forgiven me. And if they haven't, how can I forgive myself?"
He stared down into the clear water with sunken eyes. Eris met his gaze in the distorted reflection.
"We have all made mistakes, Germaine. I recall you once saying that what we do now matters more than who we were. This is a wise piece of truth, and one you must seek refuge in." She paused. "The Dark Ages, as you have said, were wild times. They were different times. People did not abide by the rules that we have enacted in this age, as you know. Light fought against Light, final deaths were given out and were not as uncommon as one would hope for them to have been. You have told me of times when you had been the one to deal the final deaths, but you did not speak with a sense of pride or indifference. This shows already, Germaine, you are no cruel monster."
Eris took a long pause, waiting for the Drifter to meet her gentle eyes. When he did, she continued.
"There is a Psalm we both know of, concerning the confession of sins, "So I admitted my sin to you; I didn't conceal my guilt. "I'll confess my sins to the Lord," is what I said. Then you removed the guilt of my sin."" I believe that in order for you to find true peace and the ability to forgive yourself, you must first confess your sins to one greater than either you or me, or any living person to be found in this world."
"How can anyone, no matter how great, forgive a murderer?" The Drifter asked solemnly. "That's one of the things that that Book says is a sin."
"Yes, but lying is a sin too, is it not? Do you believe that one lie will cast you into unforgiveness?"
"No," the Drifter replied, his brows crinkled in thought.
"No, and I do not believe that One so forgiving would forgive the sins of some, but not of others. Confess to Him, Germaine. I am sure that you will not only be forgiven, but will feel a great weight lifted from your back."
The Drifter nodded slowly. "Yeah... I will, Moonlight."
The Drifter chuckled again, lighter this time. The sun had sunk deeper, causing shadow to slowly envelop the forest.
"Thanks, Moonlight." The Drifter said at last, breaking the silence that had grown between them.
The Drifter then stuck out his hand, offering Eris to take it again. When Eris did he pulled them closer together.
They stood close together on the bridge long after the moon rose into the sky.
