Summary: You haven’t seen the sun in two years. The Virus wiped out a good three quarters of the world’s population and then the wars that followed wiped out half of that. After everything happened, it was only a matter of time before the different countries started blaming each other and emptied their nuclear arsenals. You’re still surprised Seoul survived – if you can call what it has become “surviving”.

Your head is swimming and you feel like you’re floating. A sea spreads out around you, gray and endless and a small bird flies over your head.

“Jungkook?”

The bird circles above you then dives into the water, disappearing below with a small ripple. You immediately follow, the sea swallowing you, cold water rushing into your ears. You see the bird, a light colored blob far below you, tumbling, spinning, dancing through the undercurrents. You want to tell him to come back to you, that it’s lonely up on land, but you don’t open your mouth for fear of drowning. Again you find yourself floating in the dark ocean, the surface sparkling above you, the terrifying blackness below. The bird is barely visible now as it continues downward. Then fingers wrap around your arm from behind and begin to pull you back. No, you want to scream, I can’t leave him down there! Through the water you see the bird’s shadow fade as you’re pulled back to the daylight.

“Let’s get out of this place,” you whisper while shifting on the granite rocks overlooking the cerulean sea.

The crashing of the waves is louder than your voice itself, and you’re unsure if your words are heard. You shiver slightly with each crisp breeze that touches your skin, causing your white gown to flow in the wind. The moment feels perfect as the sun ignites the night sky, its reflection kissing the water and casting a soft sheen across the field. A crunching sound catches your attention, your eyes glancing over just in time to see a rock skipping into the water. 

“I wish we could,” he murmurs as his eyes fixate on the orange sun beginning to set. His fingers glide through his short black hair, tugging at the strands before letting out a sigh. You know that sound all too well and the meaning behind it. Even though you weren’t used to hearing it given your status, it was one you often heard from him. From the corner of your eye, you notice him shifting, the heel of his boots crumbling a small rock before his eyes meet yours.
