i've been working on my own little beetlejuice au that does not involve forced marriages or teenagers being friends with ghosts, but what i consider to be the core of what beetlejuice (tim burton in general really) is all about: finding comfort in the strange and unusual when you don't fit in.

this is a young adult lydia coping with depression and a beetlejuice with nothing better to do than to annoy the hell out of her. sometimes he makes himself useful so she doesn't entirely get rid of him.

she craves death, he craves life. they're not together, they're not friends, they're just both outcasts who don't have anyone else.
