Also, I Hate Abstinence-only, And I Absolutely Agree That Teenagers Need Accurate Information About Sexuality
Also, I hate abstinence-only, and I absolutely agree that teenagers need accurate information about sexuality that isn’t shaming or meant to “scare em straight,” but I feel like social media (especially fucking Instagram) has reeeaally pushed this “hoe culture” thing that tells especially underage girls that the best way to own your sexuality, be “sex positive,” and be #empowered is to act out this really porny hypersexuality to appeal to boys. (And also to be hypersexual for boys on demand but never expect anything like emotional reciprocation in return, because that’s prudish and whiny and not what Baddies™ do.)
Even on places like tunglr.hell; of a clearly underage teen girl deepthroating a banana in front of her cheering peers at a party, and the reactions were all “yaaaaasss what a queen lmaaaooo #baddie,” with nobody really stopping to ask if maaaaybe that doesn’t really look like a really great situation, also why are you sharing a clip of a teen faking a sex act, let alone cheering it on as badass.
The only people who expressed any kind of concern were the people yelling about how “if that was my daughter I’d whoop her hoe ass and lock her in the basement.” It seems like young girls are caught between the left and right wall in a maze, one being this porny sexiness for boys, he other being this controlling and shaming insistence on “purity”, and in between are predators who know how to corner you against either of those walls

Had a bit of a rant this morning. Gender is a construct and biology is a joke. Trans lives matter.
I think 2016-style "Men's rights activist" misogyny really did a number on our ability to talk about gender online in ways that we have yet to fully unpack.
At this point everyone is so jaded from dealing with those trolls that any time a men's issue of any kind is brought up the kneejerk reaction is "ugh, this again! Reverse sexism doesn't exist!" even if nobody said anything about "reverse sexism."
That's how we got into a situation where a statement like "trans men and tranmascs face specific struggles and prejudices. Maybe we should have a word for that so we can talk about how it affects us" sets off the MRA Troll Alarm and gets everyone on the defensive.
i don’t want to achieve equality by sinking to men’s level, i want them to get on ours! why should i have to unlearn the conversational art of waiting my turn, unlearn sexual self-restraint, unlearn trust in others’ good intentions, unlearn the impulse to cater to others’ needs, just to have a chance at success among savages? why can’t the men learn some fucking manners so we can all conduct our affairs in a civilized manner? i shouldn’t have to stop saying sorry, you say sorry!
obviously theres only been one episode so i cant speak to the entire season but when the showrunners for house of the dragon said there wasnt going to be sexual violence against women, the sexual part was very, very heavily emphasized, but just because there isnt sexual assault doesnt mean there isnt extreme violence against women, and honestly the super fucking graphic scene in the first episode of a forced c section that she knew would kill her, while she was being held down by the people who were supposed to be caring for her and screaming for her life, might be more horrifying than anything game of thrones did, especially in the context of the fall of roe in the US, so like, dont go into this expecting it to be kind to women. it is just as horrifying as before, under the justification of “historical accuracy” but idk man, maybe in a world with dragons and magic we dont need historical accuracy
