I Feel Like Too Many Times, People Focus On The Negative Aspects Of A Lot Of Media.
I feel like too many times, people focus on the negative aspects of a lot of media.
It is very important to remain critical of what we consume and understand that it’s not perfect, but at the same time we can’t let a few mistakes or problems warp our entire view of it.
There are some things that are inexcusable, absolutely. There are reasons why I just can’t get behind Dragon Maid, despite having a wonderful down to earth wlw story, but there are other stuff like RWBY, Steven Universe, and a bunch of other shows that have their problems but they shouldn’t be overshadowed by their mistakes. Because I feel they have more good going for them.
It’s fine if those shows just aren’t your cup of tea too. You have every right not to watch it if you don’t enjoy it. But to say the show is entirely bad because of a few mistakes isn’t really fair..

I’m going to say something controversial. While I don’t think RWBY did the best job at handling the whole racial allegory, I think they put in some really good stuff that had the potential to really be something. Like with Adam and Ilia showing the two sides of people who were (rightfully) angry at their oppressors and how Adam let that consume him into a power hungry monsters and how Ilia was able to overcome her angry and eventually direct it to something more constructive and not destructive.
Many people didn’t like the stuff with Menagerie but I feel it had a lot of good shit. There are extremists out there born from oppression and it’s also shown how people will equate one groups actions to the whole and how much the White Fang had hurt their cause more under Adam’s leadership then helped. It’s also good to know that the White Fang were not always that way with Blake’s dad being the previous leader who steps up to that role again once he sees how much the Faunus needs the White Fang and how they need a leader who doesn’t let their own hatred and anger cloud their better judgement.
While I admit I don’t really get how the whole Faunus thing works into the overall plot and feels more like world building flavor text, I’ll give the writers some props to trying to tackle it and I feel that as the series went on they did a better job at showing how prejudice and work in our society and who it’s not always in your face racism. Sometimes it’s snide comments, or seeing how minorities tend to be more impoverished. Atlas and Mantle does a good job at showing this and not just telling. You see more faunus in Mantle and barely any in Atlas, there is also Marrow who I think is a wonderful show don’t tell character too!
Idk i’m rambling. I think what I’m saying is, yes the RWBY racism allegory stuff isn’t the best, and it certainly doesn’t start out great, but I feel as they get into it later on you can definitely see the improvement.
I hope to be half as good of a story teller as the writers of She-Ra because that shit still gets me till this day
It's honestly fucking horrifying to imagine a life where you're famous.
Like you will scratch your butt and suddenly there are 100 articles on the ethics of scratching your ass and why it's a good/bad thing actually.
I should just start a blog for all my feelings on media honestly. I have so many thoughts about shows and junk.
