Once she was home, she went through the things in the box of junk she kept underneath the counter and found what she was looking for. An old box, small but lined with black felt. The bee fit just perfect inside. Milli smiled at it and shut the box, putting it in her pocket. 

Rings were traditional, but she and Tia weren’t traditional people. Now she would just have to figure out how to ask her.

Life was busy. There were orders to be met and then the kids all came down with a spring flu that kept them up at odd hours for the better part of a week. And that was on top of experimenting with and making a prosthetic arm for Markus.

When she found the tiny black box in the back of the drawer as she slid the cash box in one morning, with a bit of dust on the back of it, Milli frowned. This wasn’t something she should put off. It wasn’t something she would put off. 

So she sent word to the girls’ grandparents and asked them to take the girls and Naeem for the weekend, which they happily agreed to do, and began making plans. 

When Tia came back, the shop was quiet but for the sound of Milli doing to the dishes, tidying things up in the back. She smiled at Tia. 

“Hey. Have you eaten yet? I wanted to take you on a beach picnic. I know it’s dark, but I figured we could make a fire. Cuddle up and just have a nice night?” She was doing her best not to wring her hands, though she couldn’t control the blush on her face or the smile as she looked Tia over.
