so Sebek’s design was influenced by 1) lightning and 2) the crocodile maleficent henchman (see below)

I wanted to make his color palette more similar to this henchman (while still keeping the light green in the hair for the lightning effect, as well as adding a bunch of zigzags to his hairline etc) and I also think having the brown in his hair shows more of his human half (he dyes it that green color!)

as you can see from the images above I was particularly influenced by the croc’s eyes + teeth!

his sharp teeth are meant to be like the ones I circled in the reference pic haha (I can imagine the rest of his teeth being flatter and more human but these 3 stick out!)

the darker area around his eyes is supposed to be similar to the croc henchman as well!

^ because of his unique magic, I decided to give him lichtenberg figure scars, which occur when someone is struck by lightning! I love magical consequences haha.. so I decided it would make sense if he scarred a lot from using his UM for the first time

^ his earrings are meant to mimic the shape of fae ears

and ofc I kept the lightning bolt eyebrows from his og design hahaha

I’ve seen so many people talking about Greek God twst au, so it’s time to put my two cents in! (Mostly regarding Idia) (also this is based on actual folklore not Hercules.)

“Idia?” You may say. “But he’s obviously Hades!” And yeah, you’re right. He’s LITERALLY based off of Hades. BUT! I am a staunch and I mean STAUNCH believer in Hephaestus Idia. IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE TO ME.

Number one, obviously the parallels between Idia’s prowess with technology from a young age and Hephaestus being the god of forgery (among other things which I’ll touch on later). Hephaestus could create life, in the form of creating living human beings AND animating statues, literally robots. *cough* Ortho *cough*.

Next! The similarities between Hephaestus being born with/gaining his disability and Idia’s curse. Though they don’t have quite the same effects, being that Idia’s curse was hereditary, I think it’s still an interesting comparison being both their afflictions cause a sense of revulsion and outcasting from peers and other people in general, directly affecting them in the process.

From what I understand, Hephaestus was generally viewed as an awkward and inadvertently rude (or deliberately) person, much alike Idia of course, though the rude part is mostly him through his games.

And…… Drum roll please… Hephaestus is also the god of fire! ….Do I even need to explain why that matters—
