"Hey, kid-" Ollie starts before Gregory has the chance to go into the particularly deranged kids entertainment center. She has a potentially more deranged idea, after all. "How about you come see a real band for once?"

★ — He's already got one hand on the back door, a security badge he he'd managed to swipe the last time he was in the pizzaplex in the other when she calls out to him. He winces — an overly dramatic reaction, sure, but feels fitting as he's certain he'll be receiving another interrogation or half - assed lecture about how he should stay away. Even so, he lowers his hand from the door and turns around to face Ollie with a brow raised in question.

Oh —— .

That's — he wasn't expecting that. His surprise is obvious in his expression, in the way his lashes flutter rapidly and brown hues seem to widen. He stares at her for a second, fingers curling around the security badge before tilting his head.

"What d'you mean?"

gregory ( doctor rabbit / rab ), tony ( tarbell ), and ellis ( boots ) . —

tony and ellis have been friends for years ( though tony feels as though he's beginning to outgrow ellis's company ), and gregory is the strange new kid who seems to scare off anyone that tries to be his friend. tony of course takes this as a challenge and sees gregory as a mystery he wants to get to the bottom of ( considering himself an investigative reporter ) and essentially weasels his way into being gregory's friend, to gregory's utter annoyance. gregory and tony are enablers with poor impulse control and are constantly egging each other on to doing stupid things on a dare, like sneaking into the school after hours !

one of my favorite things about the ggy short story is the moment when tony is talking about how he has much deeper thoughts than all of the twelve year olds around him and kind of pauses and goes "I think rab ( gregory ) might have deep thoughts too, it's why I'm interested in him." like tony . gregory is traumatized.

“Did you take some of my gum?” Michael questions, only because he can’t find the pack he could have sworn he had in his jacket pocket not even an hour ago. He has caught Gregory… staring at him after pulling it out before ( understandable habit to question, given the fact that it’s the closest thing to eating or drinking that Michael ever does ), but he didn’t think it was all thet strange. “Not that I mind, I just don’t know where it went.”

★ — Pencil stills across paper as the question from his guardian causes Gregory to momentarily freeze. A wash of nerves runs through him — he tenses, though it only lasts a short moment before he begins to uncurl his frame from its position, hunched over his current drawing to turn and better see Michael on the other side of the couch where he's holding a familiar jacket.

"Gum? Uh —— ."

Seemingly before he can catch himself, his gaze flickers for a brief second to his bedroom where the door is slightly ajar. Just as quickly, he tilts his head ; a picture of innocence.

"Nope."

It's certainly not shoved under his pillow, hidden away so Gregory can investigate the pack once Michael thinks he's gone to sleep. Being sneaky was a skill he had long since honed, practically a necessity prior to being taken in — taking the gum hadn't been difficult, but he had hoped for a little more time before Michael went looking for it, that he'd be able to slide it back into the pocket before the man even noticed it was missing.

"Maybe it fell out when you were walking home from work?"
