@iskron there you go <3

❛ This is nonsense! I’m no Grisha.❜ Linnea exclaimed as they dragged her out of the room to Djel knows where. Something stirs inside her as she says this. The power buried within protesting against such claim. It startles her for a moment. She shakes her head, begins fighting them off again. No, she can’t be Grisha. She just can’t. If she was, she would’ve known, right? ❛ Let go of me! ❜ She shouts as she struggles to set herself free from the guards grasp. Irons ultimately closes around her wrists and the panic seeps in. She’s all alone and has been forced back into a country that failed her as a child and teenager. Her father is missing and the court swore they would protect her from whatever enemies the man has made and yet—— she might burn at the stake because some old lady at the entrance touched her and decided she was Grisha.

❝ Djel! What are you thinking you are doing? ❞

A voice rang out, quick footsteps echoing through the bright white hallways of the ice court. The words held authority, ROYAL authority, unwavering even in the face of Drüskelle. Opjer might be a last name not too favorable at court in the last months but Linnea is a friend. One of the few he had left. Rëvfeder be damned, her parentage was not her fault.

❝ Let her go. This is an order. ❞

She was no Grisha, none of them witches his country seemed to despise so much. Rasmus didn’t understand - on his occasional travels to Kerch and Ravka he had never witnessed any ill-intentions on their side. Once a healer had even soothed the sickness that had taken root so deeply inside of him ever since his birth. It has gotten worse over the years, since he’d last seen Linnea, before she left him alone at court to study in Ketterdam. He was thinner, paler, his skin chalky, almost gray and his chest is heaving from the strain of walking.

❝ It’s been … a while, hasn’t it? ❞

He had missed her more than he’d like to admit but standing in front of her, alone, having left Joran with the other guards, he found himself surprised how much he’d actually longed for her presence. Ever since cousin Vasily’s death three years ago, he’d found himself lonelier than ever. Nikolai was the Tsar now, a competent one for sure considering how many of their assassinations attempts he had evaded - not that Rasmus had had any hand in it, he liked his cousin very much alive indeed. Even if he was no real Lantsov.

❝ I’m glad you’ve made it here … rather safely. ❞

That voice. She would’ve recognized it anywhere, even among thousands. It didn’t matter if she hadn’t heard it in years, she just knew. Even if it hadn’t conveyed royal authority, she would’ve still known who it belonged to.

❛ Rasya.❜ she let out in a whisper as she turned to meet his gaze, hazel eyes locking with his blue orbs as he approached. She hadn’t been prepared for the sight of him. He’d never mentioned his health in the letters they had exchanged over the years and she had foolishly believed it meant he was better. Djel! He’d told her he was after all and, of course, she’d believed him. She should’ve known better. Royalty couldn’t afford to show weakness as anything other than a guise.

The druskelle let her go. Well, all but one. A young man, fairly new to the ranks and ignorant of the ways of the court, still held her arm. He couldn’t let the witch go. It was against the beliefs they’d hammered in his brain from a very young age. Besides, there was no way the amplifier witch had made a mistake, right? That had never happened before. He was paralyzed, terrified of letting go of a potential criminal.

Linnea winced, feeling the druskelle’s nails digging into her arm as he was fighting whatever inner battle was going on in his mind. ❛ A while indeed. ❜ A nervous laugh escaped her as she was fighting back the tears of relief. She didn’t want to appear weak. Not in front of the druskelle. She wasn’t gonna give those people any more reason to think poorly of her, someone that didn’t fit their stereotypical ideal of womanhood. ❛ Could be safer. ❜ She commented eyeing the druskelle’s grip on her arm. She wasn’t mad at Rasmus though. None of this circus was his fault. He’d come to her rescue and she was very much grateful for it.

Makhi had taken her mother’s hand in hers. ❛ But I should [rule]. I have studied. I have trained. ❜   ❛ And yet no lesson has ever taught you kindness. No tutor has ever taught you mercy. You have a heart hungry for war and I do not know why. ❜ ❛ It is the falcon’s heart, ❜ Makhi had said proudly. ❛ The heart of the Han. ❜ ❛ It is the falcon’s will. That is a different thing. ❜ Rule of Wolves, chapter 1

@iskron  ;)

Any YA fantasy enthusiasts would have argued that being bodyguard to the Crown Prince of Norway was a d r e a m   j o b. For Mayu Kir-Kaat, it was H e l l. But she was willing to go through Hell to spare their mother from drowning in debts.

The bodyguard hadn’t said a word since they’d pick their new assignement up at the airport. The only words she’d spoken was Mr Fluff when Prince Rasmus had asked what was the name of the dog in the car. And no smoking in the car when he’d attempted to do so.

Now, they were setting up their living space, which was way too luxurious to be that of two ordinary students but Mayu kept quiet on the matter. They weren’t the one in charge of those arrangements. Their job was to make sure the royal was still breathing. Though that could prove to be a heavy task considering he was a smoker.

She was emptying her single suitcase in her new room (thrice the size of the one they had back home!) and placing the clothes in the closet (twice the size of their old room!) while Mr Fluff was rolling on the bed (king-sized!) playing with his favorite toy.

❛ Home sweet home.❜ Mayu sighed, with no enthusiasm whatsoever, falling onto the bed. She was going to be living with a Crown Prince for the entire duration of the latter’s studies. How exciting, they thought. At least, the pay is good, another voice reminded her, which seemed to make things bearable for now.

❝Her?❞ Zoya said in a venomous tone. Her blue eyes narrowed, watching emotions change on Genya’s face as quickly as the wind in the storm. Zoya’s own expression darkened and after a moment she recollected smiling at the tailor in a superior manner. ❝So it was true wasn’t it? He lost her? ❞ The raven haired girl sounded amused. ❝And here I thought he was tracking something actually valuable, what a disappointment.❞ In truth Zoya was mad the Darkling had left that piece of information out, but she was not going to show it. ❝I am not heading after any wrenches, I am have an important meeting with some sort of a Captain, if you must know. We have more serious tasks than to look for silly, lost girls.❞

❛ He didn’t lost her. ❜ Genya rectified, sharply, before glancing to the door, making sure no one was near to listen to this conversation. ❛ She got scared when she realized how big the task was and fled the palace. Being the savior of Ravka is a lot of pressure for a young girl. She’s only 17 and still so new to all this. ❜ A lie wrapped in truth. The redhead was a master in this art. The tailor wasn’t blind to how upset Zoya was that the Darkling had withheld such valuable information from her. She knew just how much the brunette longed for his approval and trust (everyone of his soldiers did, honestly), especially when it came to the fate of their country. Genya straightened as she face the squaller again, ambers locking gazes with stormy orbs. ❛ He didn’t want anyone to know, aside from the people actually looking for her right now, because if the news gets to the crown—— we’re screwed. So, i’m counting on you to keep your pretty mouth shut, alright? ❜ Then, she raised a brow, remembering the girl had said something about a captain.  ❛ Wait— Are you talking about Sturmhond? ❜
