In Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, Choombas are enemies that are only encountered as Bowser, and not as Mario and Luigi. However, hacking one into a battle against Mario and Luigi reveals that it is fully functional, not only correctly attacking the Bros., but also having unique unused sprites for this scenario.

Note the “M” and “L” shaped clouds (near the top of the screen in the left column) that the Choomba produces before charging at Mario and Luigi, respectively. It is unknown why Mario and Luigi can never encounter Choombas despite them being clearly programmed with this option in mind.

Sprites Used For Passport Photos In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowsers Minions, Extracted From The

Sprites used for passport photos in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions, extracted from the game’s files. While the original Game Boy Advance version had many more than 5 different expressions (as they depended on location, direction pressed, and story progression), it simply reused sprites from other scenes in the game. The remake reduces the expressions to 5 for each character, but gives each of them unique sprites used only on the passports.
