warnings: angst if you squint, i think this is rushed and terrible, but i’m also somehow proud of it, some cursing, but its mostly kind of fluffy

There were many things to expect when your twenty-second birthday drew in closer and closer. Things like a birthday cake, maybe a pretty bracelet as a present, and your soulmate.. of course. 

The guys had already found their soulmates, and you hated it. They were all soulmates, each of them having six symbols on their inner wrist to describe the others. Jin’s symbol was a crown, Taehyung had a paintbrush, Gukkie had a carrot, Namjoon had a crab, Yoongi had a microphone, Jimin had ballet shoes and Hoseok had a boombox. They were all so careful with each other and disgustingly in love, it made you impatient to find your soulmate. 

But after they sang happy birthday and you blew out the candles, the last thing you expected to find all seven of their symbols. Your wrist suffered a dull ache as you watched the symbols engrave themselves on your arm. You reached over and snatched Jimin’s wrist, turning it over to see a new heart among his marks. “You cannot be serious.”

Gukkie frowned, looking at his own. “What does that mean? I thought it was supposed to show up on your soulmate.” He tried rubbing it off and Joon let out an awkward chuckle. “It means we’re all soulmates.. the eight of us.”

It was so silent, the only sound heard was the flickering of the candle left on the cake, before Taehyung let out a curse. “What the hell?”

“Y/N can’t be our soulmate!” Guk claimed. “I didn’t even think we had another soulmate? Why do we have another soulmate?”

Joon raised his hands in surrender. “I don’t run the universe. I don’t know why, I just know this is what happened.” 

You shook your head, standing up from your seat. You weren’t sure how to feel. One one hand, you did love them, and you knew they loved you, so you knew you’d always be taken care of… but on the other, it just seemed so awkward. After all, you had called these guys your brothers on multiple occasions. Was it even possible to think of them like that?

Hoseok noticed the conflict on your face and clapped his hands so the attention came to him. “We don’t have to figure anything out right now. Now we know so we’ll just have to work with it. For now, let’s just enjoy the birthday.”

Jin shrugged. “I personally think this is great. We already know Y/N.”

All of you had collectively ignored Jin’s comment that night until the day after your birthday, when Jimin took you out on your first date, claiming that if it was awkward you could stop. But it hadn’t been hard to be comfortable with him, or any of them as they took turns taking you out. They were so perfect; holding doors open for you, giving you their jacket, tying your shoes when they noticed. They kept you laughing, you almost forgot this was a mission to see if soulmates really would work. 

Just like how it was way too easy for them to fall in love with you; the twinkle in your eye whenever you got excited, the way you always forget to blow on your food when it was too hot, the way you clung to them when you were tired and ready to leave somewhere. Spending the next few years with you felt like it was meant to be, falling into a rhythmic lifestyle that sometimes seemed too perfect.

They had discussed this with each other for ages, deciding ultimately that doing this for you was the right decision. You didn’t even notice their nerves or apprehension are you danced energetically for ARMY during the break. 

“We have something to say,” Namjoon declared into his mic, sharing a glance with Taehyung, who nodded. You turned around to give them your attention, curious about what they were saying. “As many of you know,” he started. “The eight of us are soulmates. We found out four years ago,and the time since has just been incredible.”

Jin picked up, “It was already wonderful for us, to know that we were all each other’s soulmates. But when we learned that Y/N was the final part of our match… it felt right. At first some of us were worried, but it wasn’t hard to prove the universe right as we fell in love with her.”

Yoongi chuckled. “Y/N, you’re stubborn, ruthless and tiringly energetic… but you’re also lovely, beautiful and generous, and I don’t think I’d change that for anything. You do so much for us without even realizing it, you’re so good and you don’t even notice.”

“There have been a lot of times where you seemed to feel like we don’t love you as much as you love us,” Jungkook chimed in, standing right in front you. Using his thumb, he brushed away your tears as he smiled at you encouragingly. “But we love you more than anything else in the world, and we thought we’d ask…” he slowly turned you around by your shoulders to show Jimin kneeling in front of you with the ring. He had to speak into the mic as he grinned hopefully up at you, to be heard over the screams and cheers of the crowd. “Will you marry us, Y/N?”

You let out a happy sob, before surging forward to hug him happily, mumbling your ‘yes’ on repeat in his ear. Cries of, “She said yes!” rang throughout the arena as the seven of them all came to surround you. 

Yeah, maybe it had been unexpected, and even a little awkward at first.. but no one could deny that the eight of you were truly meant to be.

The bullet fires from the barrel, pistol shooting back upon impact. The smoke bursts from the muzzle, a thick smog that drifts in the air. There’s a screech of wheels on pavement, the motorcycle leaving a trail of flames as it rides off. A sleek car pursues the vehicle, more gunshots heard ricocheting off the crying sky, blue and red lights of the sirens reflecting off the falling crystal raindrops. Time moves in slow motion.

There’s someone’s piercing scream, glass shattering as a person collides into the window of the building, body plunging in the atmosphere as they await for their death. Citizens run rampant on the streets, children weeping out for their parents whose bodies lie on the concrete, swimming in their own pools of crimson blood.

In the wake of the chaos, a gun is cocked back.
