“Kai! You bastard!” Taehyun exclaims while giggling, legs crossed on your couch looking down at his nintendo switch. Kai simply laughs in response, that high pitched evil laugh you could recognize from miles away. He was sitting on the floor, back up against the couch, also looking down at the gaming console he too brought for himself to use. 

You on the other hand had joined Kai on the floor, eyes focused on the celebrity variety show playing on the TV.  You occasionally reached towards the coffee table to grab from the assortment of chips and candy you had bought for tonight. Just a usual late-night hangout with your two closest friends. Every so often your attention would be forcefully moved to the two boys next to you from (mainly) Kai’s sporadic outbursts of excitement and/or rage from the game of Smash Bros. they were playing together. 

“Ugh… Since when did Taehyun get good at this game?…" Kai murmured to himself, throwing his head back onto the edge of the couch, arms up in defeat. 

“Y/n, play with me.” Taehyun more so demanded instead of asking, ignoring Kai.

You just shook your head the tiniest bit, popping a jelly candy into your mouth, eyes still fixated on the TV. Kai’s gaze seemed to linger on you for just a second longer than normal, before speaking up, “Why would she want to play with a tryhard like you?” 

Taehyun scoffed at his remark. 

“Me? A tryhard? Maybe just get better.”

“Oh! You’re right.. That’s Beomgyu’s.” 

Taehyun sits up straight and looks at the younger with a raised brow. 

“Why do you have Beomgyu’s switch?” Kai begins to sit himself up as well, putting the fallen couch cushions back up neatly. “I left mine at my sister's house during break.”

“Wow.. so you’re that desperate to play video games? I thought she didn’t live far from campus?” you tease just a bit. “No! Not really.. She’s on vacation in Jeju for a week, that’s why.” 

 “Beomgyu sure is a great friend then..” Taehyun says, half sarcastically. You knew Beomgyu, of course. He was in their original group of five. You specifically remembered him as the one with longer hair... So pretty he almost looked like a girl. To be honest he was kind of your type. Okay, he was totally your type. But you don’t think you’d ever pursue him like that.. In a way, he was kind of formidable to you. There’s no way he didn’t have a girlfriend, and if he didn’t, he probably wouldn’t be trying to go after you.

“Oh, y/n. Speaking of that… I’m supposed to return it to him tonight. Is it okay if I just have him pick it up here?” He asks, fidgeting with the loose string on his hood. 

“Here? Oh, yeah.. sure! I don’t care.” you shrug, sticking your hand in what you thought was the last bag with candy still in it. He looks back down at his phone, presumably typing in the info Beomgyu would need to come pick up the console. 

“Aw.. it’s empty..”  you lift your hand with the empty candy bag on it, pouting just slightly. 

“Hm? Taehyun, should we get some more?” Kai looks over to him.

Taehyun looks up from his phone, eyes moving to the empty bags on the table.

“Sure. I can go by myself,” he says while getting up off the floor.  

“Get real food please, Tyun!” you yell just a bit as he makes his way across the living room, toward the door. “Get some drinks too!” Kai adds. “Actually, more candy too, please! I’ll pay you!”  You see Taehyun give a thumbs up as he slides his shoes back on, grabbing his wallet and exiting the apartment.

You lean yourself fully against the couch, stretching, before getting yourself up. 

You start to pick up the empty bags and trash from the table and the surrounding floor. 

Kai begins to help, before you lightly swat his hand away, “No, I got it, it’s okay.” 

Kai doesn’t persist, instead looking up at you from the ground where he sat. You felt his gaze following you every now and then but thought nothing of it. It wasn’t anything too unusual, but these days you noticed the way his demeanor and body language was just slightly different around you. It was nothing crazy, but the lingering touches.. The soft eye contact.. You couldn’t lie, it made your stomach flutter just a bit. The three of you had been a close-knit group for about two years now. Sometimes you’d find yourself hanging out with the rest of the boy’s friends. There were only three others, and you had some good times with them. Returning from the kitchen, you sat yourself down next to Kai, mindlessly watching the advertisements roll out on the TV. Kai couldn’t help but glance at you. You sighed. “Seriously.. Why is he still trying to meet up..?” you mumbled to yourself. You just silenced it, not having the heart to decline the call right away. “Who is it?” Kai asked. “It’s… Do you know Sim Jaeyun?” You turn your head to him, asking. 

“Jaeyun?” he gnaws on his bottom lip just a bit in concentration. “I think so… but why is he calling you?” 

You let out an exasperated sigh, laughing softly before explaining, “I met him at that party last weekend. He got my number, and he keeps wanting to meet up.. But I'm pretty sure he just really wants to hook up.”  Kai’s eyebrows raise ever so slightly. “Oh.. so he’s that kind of guy?” He was speculating more than asking. 

“Well.. no. Not necessarily… I mean, he’s a sweet guy. He’s not too pushy in an uncomfortable way at least. But…” You trail off, twisting together the strings of your pajama shorts. 

“But what?” he asks. He’s looking straight at your face, studying your expression with sincerity.

You didn’t want to tell him the truth. It’d be way too embarrassing.. You sounded like an inexperienced teenager… At least the inexperienced part was true. You weren’t a total virgin. “It- it’s okay! Really, I’m- I should have knocked..” he looks down, waving his hands in front of him frantically. Also red in the face, the man standing right beside you mumbles out a small apology, 

“I’m sorry… we got carried away” 

“Kai, it’s okay, seriously.. You guys did nothing wrong..” Beomgyu lets out a small sigh.

“If anything, I’m the one who just barged in.. I’m the one who should be sorry..” He places a hand over his chest, almost as if pledging his sincerity. 

After a couple of small nods and a few more seconds of painful silence, you arise fully, standing up beside kai. Beomgyu’s voice breaks the tension,  “So.. Are you guys like, a thing now?” he asks. The room feels less thick with apprehension at this point, but everyone is still pretty flustered. Your eyes widen and you stutter as you try to explain yourself. “N-No! We’re not- this isn’t.. We’re not together.. It’s-..” your voice dies down, because honestly, you don’t really know what it was. Kai on the other hand can’t hide his expression. His eyebrows raise together just slightly, and his mouth is open as if he wants to speak up, but no words come out. He feels like he’s just been stabbed in the chest. You didn’t reciprocate his feelings? Why else would you kiss him back? 

Beomgyu nods, “I get it, I get it.” He sits himself down on the couch. He might as well get comfortable while he’s here. His gaze wanders around, taking the interior of your living space, when all of a sudden Kai speaks up. “We were practicing.” Both you and Beomgyu look towards him. “Practicing?”  Practicing? Is that what it was to Kai? Does that mean he was expecting to take things further? Did he want you to take his virginity??

Beomgyu looks between you and Kai, “Practicing.. For what exactly?”
