-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It has been three weeks since Johnathan has fallen into the Underground, and in that time, he has grown up a lot from the mean-spirited person he was raised to be. Part of that is due in thanks to Toriel, giving him the mother figure that he missed in his whole entire life. Afterwards he’s gained a whole new perspective on life, he’s much friendlier to the other monsters, and has in fact made friends with most of the monsters that inhabit the Ruins. Johnathan hasn’t looked back on his past in the gang known as The Olathian Dominators, after how much he’s changed, he can never go back and become the person he once was.

Currently, Johnathan was sleeping snuggly in his bed, in his room at Toriel’s house. Currently he was dreaming sweet dreams of him travelling through the Underground. Right now, in his dreams, he had just left the Underground, passing through the barrier. He hiked down Mt. Ebott, enjoying the scenery. He wondered into his old town of Ebott, saying hi to everyone he knew and just enjoying life. He stopped by the florist and bought a bouquet of flowers to give to a random stranger.

He approaches the doorsteps of a random house and places the flowers down in front before leaving to explore the rest of the neighborhood. While exploring he bumps into an old “friend” of his. Calling him a friend would be an overstatement, for they only knew each other from the gang they were in together. “Johnny? Is that you mate? Ah hell, I thought ya died aways back after that failed mission.” The gang member said.

“Oh, hey Todd. Yeah, I’m still alive. But I quit the gang a long time ago, and I haven’t looked back on it.” Johnathan stated confidently. He wasn’t going to go back, not after everything that Toriel has done to help him.

“Aww come on man, at least come get a drink with ya ole pal!” Todd said, wrapping his arm around Johnathan’s shoulders and giving him a playful punch.

“Sorry, I don’t drink anymore.” Johnathan politely declined, backing away from Todd’s touch.

“Oh? Well at least come watch the game with me. It’s starting in a few hours.” Todd offered, knowing that Johnathan still loved football.

Johnathan debated about going to watch the game with him or not. In the end he shrugged and said. “Eh sure why not.” Todd smiled and led Johnathan to his home.

After a few minutes of walking through town, the duo finally arrived at Todd’s house. Todd opened the door for Johnathan. “Go ahead and make yaself comfortable mate.” Johnathan listened to Todd’s words and sat down on the sofa that was in front of a big widescreen tv. The sofa itself was quite comfortable as he felt himself sink into it. Todd went into what Johnathan assumed was his kitchen. Todd soon came out with a bowl of chips and a beer for himself. He sat down next to Johnathan and flipped on the tv, switching to the sports channel as the football game was about to begin. “Awesome, we made it just in time!”

Johnathan smiled, took a handful of chips and started to watch the game. His favorite team wasn’t playing today, but still, he could never pass up a good game of football. Soon the game on the screen began as both Johnathan and Todd cheered as one of the teams got the ball and scored a touchdown. The duo continued to watch the game until halftime approached and Todd got up from the sofa to stretch. “Man, this is one exciting game, huh mate?”

“It sure is. Man I haven’t watched football in a long time.” Johnathan thought out loud, remembering his time in the Underground where the only tv show there was whatever Mettaton felt like performing.

Todd, looked over to Johnathan. “Hey mate, I have a question for ya. Where have ya been this whole time?”

Johnathan felt that he shouldn’t tell him everything about the Underground, yet he should still till him the partial truth, after all Todd was just going to keep on bugging him until he told him so might as well. “Well I was up on Mt. Ebott.”

“Mt. Ebott? But isn’t it said that those who climb the mountain disappear forever?” Todd asked in surprise, remembering the old myth.

“Well yeah, but considering that I’m here, the myth must be false.” Johnathan smiled, knowing that he might be a legend due to him surviving Mt. Ebott.

“Wow mate, that’s amazing! If you’re to rejoin us, I’m certain ta boss will put you in a higher rank due to ta fact ya survived Mt. Ebott.” Todd told Johnathan. “With you around, ta other gangs won’t mess with us, and we’ll be able to live as kings. Take what we want, and do what we want.”

Johnathan got up from his seat on the sofa and looked at Todd firmly in the eyes. “I’m sorry Todd, but I left the gang for good. I don’t want to go back. Being in the gang has corrupted me, and it took me a long time to finally see that. I’m a changed man, and I don’t want to go back to the person I once was.”

Todd just shook his head silently. “Come on man, we really need you now, then we ever did before! So just join us mate, we’ll make you feel at home!” Todd told Johnathan.

It is true, now that he’s left the Underground, he doesn’t have a home anymore. The only other option for him is to live out on the streets, so having some form of shelter, even if it’s with the gang would be better than nothing. Johnathan took a deep sigh and shook Todd’s hand. “Fine, I’ll join.”

Todd grinned and chuckled. “Good, I knew you would.” And soon Todd disappeared into a cloud of smoke.

Johnathan rubbed his eyes from the sudden appearance of smoke and looked around, seeing bottles of booze scattered around the floor. He looked down at his hands and saw them stained red with blood. He took a few steps back, refusing to believe the sight in front of him. He promised his self that he would never go back, he was supposed to be strong. “N-no… this can’t be! I… can’t…” He stumbled out in fear. He slowly looked up and in front of him, was a lifeless corpse of someone he didn’t know. He fell down to his knees and screamed out in agony.

He woke up screaming. He looked around and realized he was in his room at Toriel’s house. He breathed a sigh of relief, thankful that it was all just a dream. Soon footsteps could be heard outside in the hall, approaching Johnathan’s door. The door swung open as a familiar figure entered his room. “My child! Are you okay? I heard screaming?” Toriel asked, voice full of concern as she went over to Johnathan’s bedside.

Johnathan calmed down at the sight of the motherly monster. “I-I’m… okay. I just had a nightmare, that’s all.”

“Well it must have been a pretty bad nightmare; do you mind telling me about it?” Toriel asked, sitting at the end of his bed. Johnathan looked away, telling that he doesn’t want to talk about it. “It’ll make you feel better my child.” Toriel smiled softly.

Johnathan felt at ease with her comforting smile and decided to tell her. “Well, it started out with me leaving the Underground and going back to my home town. I was greeting everyone and being kind to them. I then came across an acquaintance of mine from the gang I used to be in, and we started talking. Soon he tried to convince me into rejoining the game, and next thing I saw were bottles of booze and blood on my hands… I became the person I used to be…” He uttered the last few words, still a bit startled from the dream.

Toriel only nodded her head in response, and gently patted his head to comfort him. “Don’t worry my child, that will never happen. I know that you’re strong enough to avoid the path you went down before you came to the Underground. Besides, as I told you before, the Underground is a dangerous place, you’re only safe within the Ruins with me.”

Johnathan nodded in agreement, but he felt that the Underground isn’t as bad as Toriel is making it seem. “Toriel?”

“Yes my child?”

“Can I explore the rest of the Underground at some point? I know you said that it isn’t safe, so I was thinking that maybe you can come with me! To protect from those who may wish to harm me.” Johnathan asked, hoping that Toriel will at least consider his plea. There’s only so much one can do in the Ruins, and it got old only after being here for a week. He wants to explore, meet more monsters, and make more friends.

Toriel brought her paw to her chin, pondering what he asked for a moment. If she’s there with him, he could be safe. Though there’s the matter of the royal guards, especially Undyne. Since Toriel isn’t Queen anymore, they would be unwilling to obey her orders to keep Johnathan safe. But perhaps, if they were to explore Snowdin, where there are few guards, and with the help of her friend, perhaps he will be safe. “Johnathan… you know how cautious I like to be, and how I think the rest of the Underground is dangerous. I just want to know, is this what you really want?” Toriel asked Johnathan, giving him the chance to back out if he wants to.

Johnathan looked at Toriel sternly and nodded his head. “Yes, it is, this is what I want. I want to be able to explore the rest of the Underground, make new friends and continue to better myself into being the best person I can be.”

Toriel smiled at Johnathan, patting his head softly. “Well if this will help you to become a better person, than I suppose I’ll accept your request, just as long as you promise to stick near me while we’re outside of the Ruins.”

Johnathan couldn’t believe what he was hearing, Toriel was going to let him explore the rest of the Underground, despite the dangers that presented themselves. He dove into Toriel’s chest, wrapping his arms around him, resting his head on her shoulder, giver her a big hug. “Oh thank you Toriel! Just, thank you so much! If there’s any way I can make this up to you, please let me know!”

Toriel let out a small chuckle at the hug and hugged him back. “It is no problem my child, though I would prefer us to start out small and explore Snowdin first. I do have a friend there that can show us around!” She smiled. “And I expect you to be on your best behavior, though I know that won’t be a problem for you.”

“It won’t be a problem at all! Trust me, I never want to go back to what I once was.” Johnathan smiled, hugging Toriel even tighter. “So who is this friend you made? I thought you never left the Ruins?”

“Oh he’s just a friend that I started talking to from the other side of the door to the rest of the Underground. One day he did a random knock knock joke, and we proceeded to tell each other the best knock knock jokes one could ever think of! Personally, I think it was quite a-door-able!” Toriel smiled, giggling softly at her pun.

Johnathan looked at Toriel with an unamused look, and groaned. “Toriel…”

“What’s wrong Johnny? Can you not “handle” these puns?” Toriel asked with a goofy grin.

Johnathan replied by laying back and pulling his covers up. “Goodnight Toriel.”

Toriel smiled, kissed Johnathan’s forehead and got off of his bed. “Goodnight Johnathan, I shall leave you in a door-mant state!” Toriel laughed to herself before getting out of his room and leaving the door to his room ajar.

After hearing the last bad pun of the night, Johnathan soon fell back asleep, dreaming about his adventures in the Underground.
