This article is harrowing. This is the experience of a doctor with a chronic illness, how, how the HELL are we supposed to, how the hell are we supposed to get treatment and be treated seriously when this is what actual members of the medical community come up against?

This is how they think of us.

Some highlights:

I told him I couldn’t do schoolwork, feel the cold, or understand a book. He suggested I go on walks if I was stressed.

This breakdown in communication, in which patient and doctor seem to live in different worlds, is well-documented by disabled people. Many feel they have to translate their experience, because disability and medical structures seem incompatible.

“I remember, even as a med student, having the vocabulary to explain what I was going through but feeling like I had hit a brick wall,” she says. “I actually didn’t know how to describe it.”

“If I said the word ‘pain’ [colleagues] took it as coded language for ‘I’m lazy’ and ‘I can’t do my work’.

“They would challenge my reality,” she says, something which led her to conceal her symptoms. “I felt like everything I shared was going to be weaponized against me. They would say ‘you walked two days ago so why can’t you walk today?’ Almost like they caught me in a lie.

”The baseline understanding of what it means to be disabled is not there.“

Disabled people make up about 20% of the population in the UK and US but only 2% of British and American doctors.

”It’s completely baffling to me how we can expect patients to respect us when we won’t even believe what they’re telling us.”

..medical experts often perceive disabled patients as incapable, unreliable, and emotionally unstable, leading clinicians to “downgrade the credibility” of what disabled patients say.

“I wish medical students were taught to be open to information disabled patients provide,” she says. “It’s okay for a medical student or doctor to admit that they don’t have the answer. That’s so much more helpful than gaslighting the patient.”

As a disability activist who’s proud of being disabled, there’s a vocabulary of identity that I can’t use with doctors,

With a disabled doctor I wouldn’t have to explain so much because we’re speaking the same language,“ they say. “My care outcomes would be so much better because I would be understood.”

Heart on the tree

Lucifer

Lucifer remembers you showing him a picture of your parents when they were younger next to a tree with a carving of their initials inside a heart with 4ever below it.

He find it silly, until you show him a picture of them taking the same picture with the same tree and he saw the carving is still there.

Even if it was covered in moss, he can still see it in the picture, a moment that lasted that long is truly something worth doing with you.

On your next date, he took you to a tree near to the house and ask you if you want to carve your initials with him.

You smile and agreed. He took you hand under his, extend his claw and with your help slowly carve your initials, than a plus then his initials then carve a big enough heart before he carve the word Eternal under both initials.

After carving everything you slowly took a step back and admire the carving even feeling it. Lucifer slowly draw his arounds you and place his chin on your shoulder and whisper "Forever is not enough"

Mammon

He got the idea from an 90's to 2000's romcom you force him to watch but he soon got invested in the love story. At the end he saw the guy carve his initials with the love interest's on a tree, drew a heart and forever under it.

After the movie end and about to head to your room to call it a night. Mammon stop you and drag you out of his room and head out of the house. He flew you to his secret tree where he hide his treasure he "found" and set you near it.

He nervously ask if you want to do what the couple did in the movie. You are shock when he asks you but agree with a smile.

He smile back and took your hand into his and guide with you hand to the tree. You watch as his nail turn into a claw and begin to carve

He start with his and then your initial before carving a big heart with two pair of wings on the side.

Once he's done and slowly let go of your hand and slowly back you back so you can see the whole thing.

He hug you from behind, which made you nuzzle you cheek into his before looking back at the carving.

Leviathan

Of course he saw in in an anime, he really wanted to do it with you. It took him days to work up the confidence to ask you on a forest date secretly planning to do the tree carving cliché with you.

After a quiet and simple picnic date in the woods. He finally ask if you like to carve your initials with him. You happily agree which makes him want to faint from being too fluster.

He took you to a tree which is the same type in TSL. He nervously points at the tree and about to carve, when you place your hand above his startling him but slowly calms down.

He took his claw out and with your guides you and he carve your initials and a big heart around it. Then he took over with your hands still on his as he carve a ribbon wrap around the heart.

Once done he slowly drop his hand and you quickly intertwined your fingers with his, as you two admire the heart on the tree.

Satan

He saw it while you two are in the park petting the cats that were wandering around the area. He saw a couple carving a something on a tree.

He realize they were carving their initials in it. He didn't get it at first but when he saw one of them carve a heart around it it click with him.

Once you finish feeding the park cats, you turn to Satan and ask if his ready to go home. But he ask if their a couple tradition of carving hearts on a tree. You explain that it some things that couples do back in the human world to show that love can last the test of time like the carving on the tree.

He ask if you want to do it? You said yes and he quickly take you back to the house and into your room. You completely forgot that you have a tree in your room. There he ask for your hand, you gave it and he took it into his and slowly guide it to the tree. And begin to carve with his claw a heart and your initials in it than he added a arrow going through the heart finishing it.

He guide you back to your bed, sat you down while you never took your eyes off the carving. Once you felt him behind you, you lean back on to his chest and he wrap his arms around you before laying his chin on your shoulder.

Asmodeus

He hear from a friend about a silly human tradition of carving the couples initials on a tree. He grins at the idea of something too sweet to pass up.

He went to your room and ask you directly if you want to carve your initials on a tree. You said sure and he immediately squeal in excitement before grabbing your hand and dragging you out to the woods.

You two look for the perfect tree to carve to, once you found one that might pass Asmo's standards. It pass and he was about to carve it with his claw when he decide he wants to do it together. So he took your hand into his and he guide your hand to the tree and start carving.

He carve both of your initials and a heart. And than he carve clouds surround that heart. Once its done he took you back a couple of step so you can see it properly.

As you admire it, Asmo took out his phone, took a silent pic and type cloud 9 but he stop before tapping post. And not to post it to his socials. Instead he save it in his private album on his photo, before putting his phone away and quickly hug you from behind and nuzzle his face into the crook of your neck.

Beelzebub

He watch as one of his teammates declare his love to his partner and walk them to the tree by the Fangol field and start carving their initials on the tree.

Seeing how happy his teammates partner is. He thought that this would be fun to do it with you.

So once you got to the field to watch him practice. As soon as his done with practice he calls you down to the field. Once your down with him, he ask to go on a walk with him and he wants to do something for you.

You agreed and follow him to the woods near at RAD. You watch as Beel is looking around for something and there he stops and smiled once he saw a big tree with poison apples are growing. Than he looks at you and ask if you want to carve your initials on the tree. You knew what he was asks and found it sweet and romantic, you agree.

Once you two are at the tree he brough his claw out but pause for a moment, you can see on his face that his worried to make a mistake. So you place your hand over his and guide his claw to the tree and start carving. He let you carve your initial before taking over and carve his and a heart around both than you took over and added a leaf and stem to make the heart like an apple.

He found it adorable once your done and quickly wrap his arms around you and lifted you up and spun you around.

Belphegor

He dreamt it, he saw you carving something on a tree but the dream abruptly end when the alarm rang.

He ask Satan about this dream he had, and Satan tells Belphie about a small human tradition of couples carving names on trees as form of showing ones love to the other.

Belphie would say it too of a hassle, but he would love to do it with you. So once he got a chance to be alone with you he ask you directly if you want to carve your initials on a tree.

Not missing a chance of Belphie being willing to do something romantic that would take effort you happily agreed. He smile and took you to your room. Of course he would choose somewhere close and convenient.

He turn you to face the tree and stood behind you place his chin on your should, before taking both of your hands into his. He whispers to help him. You nod and slowly guide both of his clawed hands to make a heart, you feel him smiling as he took over and start carving your initial and his. Than he told you to carve to horns on the heart and you did with his claws than he finish the carving with a stereotypical devil on the heart.

He pull you back and watch as your face morphs into awe as you admire the carving.

He pull you towards your bed and tell you his tired and want to sleep in your room tonight.

Note: Phew! I finish this in one siting!! Again thanks to Ettie for that wonderful headcanon. I just love it and want to make something like it.
